Home guards is some sort of non permanent,daily wage based auxialiary police force service.Take the example of Bihar police.Here the police force is categorized through four ways:-State police:-Mostly for the purpose of prevention ,investigation of offences ,are provided with 303 rifles or at most SLR.Job-Full time.They undergo a training under state police personnels.State Armed or State Military police Force-Mostly used for riot control,emergency law and order situation,don’t have power of investigation of offences.Armed with INSAS,SLR rifles.Job-Full time.They undergo a tough training under state police or under paramilitary force.SAF:-Consisting of retired Armed forces personnels.Wages paid on fixed monthly basis.Job -Not a full time permanent job rather on a contract basis.Home guards:-Paid on day basis.Generally provided with sticks and sometimes armed with 303 rifle.Job-not a full time job.Whenever the need arises state government calls them for service. You can’t. Delhi follows commissionerate system of policing.What this means is there is no post named DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) in Delhi.
