What Is The Purpose Of A Teacher If You Dont Learn Anything From Them

Is it true that I can learn anything at all by myself without any teacher?

Can you study & become an Astrophysicist if there was no internet, no qualified teacher & no access to any educational material? Can you become a world-class professional MMA fighter by reading books and without a teacher? Can you repair a car professionally by reading a manual without a professional Car Mechanic? The statement that one can learn to become anything is subjective and limited in a very small area of knowledge & expertise. For everything else you need a teacher, institute, system and environment to learn, grow and become a master.Loy Machedo

All of my teachers don't do anything, all they do is sit at their desk and say nothing, even if you ask them what there is to do. Also, there is no textbook or anything in these high school classes, so I don't learn anything everyday. What do I do?

I guess you could look for a new school. Or do what I did last year, since most of my high school teacher are stuck in the same topic for a good time, around 4 weeks of the 8 we have so we only so like 2 or 3 topics a month, I decided to actually be self taught, so I look online for the Schoolar Curricula and bought books about the topics, mainly in maths, physics and chemistry. I used to go to the library after school too and look for literature books, language and such. Now I dont know where you are living currently or how is your school system at all, but what I did was functional for me here in Peru. I mean most of my teacher don’t teach anything but they take test like they would actually teach propperly. You could also speak with your parents about it i guess.Anyway, pardon for the mistakes I’d be happy if u corrected me actually.

What if my teachers don't let me go to the bathroom?

Talk to your mom and ask her to talk to your teacher, if this is not feasible talk to your school guidance counselor! Unless you are constantly asking to go with out medical reasons, teachers to my knowledge are not supposed to prevent children from using the rest room, Now the teacher may want you to finish your test, or she/he may want you to wait until she is finished explaining something or giving assignments, but other than that no girl, especially, at your age should be prevented from going to the bathroom, no student should!

What do you think about this idea “If students don’t learn the lesson it means that the teacher doesn’t teach them.”?

It's just another attempt to transfer responsibility for learning from the student to the teacher. Something that has been going on for years. It makes students appear as though they are morons that can't learn anything on their own, but require a teacher to spoon feed them information. This is of course completely false. For some odd reason people frequently do not want to take responsibility for their own actions and lives. It is decidedly more convenient to blame others.A teacher cannot open the head of a human being and pour information into it. A teacher cannot force someone to learn and retain information. Learning is not a passive process. For example, if you want to learn calculus or abstract algebra then practice. in other words activity. Don't practice and the student will typically perform poorly on the test, perhaps even fail.I had a few very difficult professors as an undergrad. I learned the most from them because they challenged me every class meeting.I'm not saying that there aren't terrible teachers, but they are the exception and typically few in number. Most truly terrible teachers don't make long in the profession. They usually end up in some other line of work, one way or another. In fact, I had one terrible teachers and I still managed to learn.A good teacher facilitates learning. They can’t guarantee it. That comes from the student.

Is it okay that my teachers assign homework for something they haven't taught us?

Depends on what you mean teach.I find this situation quite often among my fellow students, those students above and below me.They were shown the concept and examples, but they didn’t learn how to apply it.ORThey were skimmed on the concept and examples, but they don’t know how to apply it at all.ORThey were thought nothing at all, and they simply don’t know.If you were shown the concept and have notes, re read your notes and ensure it’s simply because you had forgotten the concept at the moment that you didn’t remember the homework. If you still don’t remember, check your reminders or notifications. If the teacher ever mentioned this, likely a friend will know.Lastly ask the teacher if they went over it before. Chances are they did.If any of these don’t work, I can’t help you. Is it remedial, as in something you were expected to learn? Then you will simply have to learn it. The teacher will likely build on the subject over time. If you can guarantee it is completely random, like a book reading in math class that is about penguins and nothing possibly math related, then bring it up with the teacher the purpose. If no purpose, take it to their supervisor.Yes, take it there. No one deserves being kept out of the know of why they are being taught what they are taught. Especially if is random.

My physics teacher doesn't teach?

I'm taking high school physics this year and my teacher doesn't help us at all. Since the first day, he's handed us worksheets and told us to "try and figure out" the problems on them. Each worksheet has problems we've never seen before. He then goes over one or two of the problems quickly and the rest of class we sit around and he talks about TV shows and traffic tickets he's gotten. None of the stuff he's giving us is in our textbooks. We ask questions, but every time we get a problem, it's a completely new concept.

I'm a 4.0 or higher student and I took all honors and APs last year and am doing the same this year. I'm not a slacker. I do my work...I'm good in math and science, but this class is killing me. It's worse than APUSH was. We recently had a quiz and the majority of the class failed. He said he was disappointed in us. My thinking is, if everyone failed, then it's probably something to do with the teacher, not that most of the people in the class are just stupid. I'm not the only one complaining of him not teaching; everyone I've asked who ever had him says he doesn't teach.

I understand him wanting us to try and figure things out ourselves, but he gave us nothing to base our learning off of. There's no structure, he's just making it up as he goes. He used to be my golf coach, so I know him well and don't want him to think bad of me if I bring it up to him... What should I do? And do you guys have any suggestions for ways I can actually learn physics and not fail this class?
