its full form is SECRETLY WE ARE GAY (SWAG). this term was used in America when there was no such legal permission granted for the people having a desire of being Gay .But now the irony is every third person wants to show off himself using this word , without knowing the reason behind it.

What is the meaning of swag?

There is probably a traceable line of acquired meanings for the word if someone were to make the effort.Probably the first is a variant on the word "sway" (moving back and forth, as a branch on a tree) from which the word was applied to things that drooped, as ribbons or fabric decorations in formal and state settings.  This meaning was in use during the Federalist period in the U.S. and still exists for "window treatments" (my newly learned word for "curtains").From that it was applied to a drooping bedroll as carried by a soldier or vagrant. This dates back to around 1800 and is still current in Australia.Such people often carried their booty (if they were soldiers) or stolen goods (if they were vagrants) in this cloth container, which also began to be called swag. This meaning of dubiously acquired wealth was repurposed in rap music usage as another form of "bling" or conspicuous wealth.Around 15 years ago, the term began to be used for bags of gifts which celebrities were entitled to receive if they made an appearance at a publicity event or particular party. Depending on the wealth of the host, swag of this sort has included diamond bracelets, expensive watches, tennis club or gym memberships, new electronic gadgets, etc."Real meaning", then, will depend on what period it occurs and the context within that period.
