What Is The Role Of English Heritage

Robert Duvall's Heritage?

Robert Duvall's father has French extraction, which you can tell by the name. (Think of it as "Du Valle," meaning "of the valley," and you can see the French origin.) His mother is a descendent of the famous Lee family of Virginia (Robert E. Lee from the Civil War, Richard Henry. Lee from the American Revolution, and many other famous figures of history came from that family). They are of English heritage. Of course, if you want go back far enough, the Anglo Saxons have extensive German ancestry. But generally, you can say of Robert Duvall is of French and English background.

I hope this is helpful

Do you think english ancestry is boring or cool?

Not boring at all! England has a fascinating history, and I think it's really cool that some of my ancestors were a part of it!

But I can see how someone with mostly British ancestry might find it boring. People are always bored with what's familiar; they want different and exciting! Just like everyone thinks the town they live in is the most boring place on earth. Or that the people at their high school are all lame, and "I wish I went to ____ high school, everyone there is so much cooler!" So a mostly English person might wish for a bit of exotic French or Greek or Samoan to spice things up a bit. While someone of pure Samoan ancestry might think it'd be totally awesome to be English!

How come there so many French words spoken among American English?

Not just American but all English ... interesting historical fact: French was the preferred language of English aristocracy for several centuries following the invasion of Britain by William Duke of Normandy (Battle of Hastings).

Bill Bryson has a great book called Mother Tongue, he describes how common words for animals we eat have English roots (pig, cow, deer ...) but French roots once they're in cooked form (pork, beef, venison ...)

Love this language stuff ...

Do Americans and Canadians value their British heritage?

I think British heritage in the U.S. is so omnipresent that it is like water and air - taken for granted and rarely acknowledged.  Whether it's language and place names, the legal system, the ridiculous Imperial measurement system (which Britain itself has mostly disposed of), the Protestant work ethic, the culture of individualism, the 'free market' capitalist system, the confused relationship with sexuality....it can all be traced back to Britain.  Genetic heritage is another matter entirely - there are hundreds of millions of Americans with British lineage, including many African-Americans, a legacy of the slave trade (which also had its roots in Britain). I don't think that's particularly relevant, however - anyone of any genetic heritage who speaks American English and relies on the presumption of innocent until proven guilty is affected by British influence. But this is seen to be so obvious that it is rarely acknowledged, and you will see very few Americans parading their British heritage with pride - partly because it has rarely been a cause for discrimination in recent memory.  I haven't visited the Ellis Island Museum recently, but when I did I recalled encountering touching immigrant stories from around the world - Italy, Ireland, Africa, China, Brazil - but not a single one that concerned an immigrant from England.  Perhaps that has since changed.

What two English principles of government influenced the development of the US?

1 - Representative democracy
2 - Constitution

The Heritage of World Civilization Help!!!?

Rivalry among European nation-states would often encourage colonized peoples to take advantage of the distractions caused by military conflicts in Europe to overthrow their own colonial masters.

Rivalry among European nations had a profound impact on nations outside Europe. Rivalry between France and England led to the involvement of the French navy in the American revolution whose role was crucial in the defeat of the British.

France's invasion of rival Spain during the Napoleonic wars encouraged the people in the South American viceroyalties of South America to rebel against the crown. Eventually, the Spanish were ejected and independent states established in South America (such as Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia).

Rivalry between Britain and Germany caused the World War I in which the Ottoman Empire involved itself on the side of the Germans. The British aided Arab nationalists who wanted freedom for the Arab territories of the Ottoman Empire. Eventually, the Ottomans were defeated and Arab kingdoms were established under British domination in Jordan and Iraq.

That is all I can think of. Best of luck.

For an essay- why is heritage important?

heritage is important because it is who you are, it is why you are where you are, good luck!
