First a bit about me. I am *massively* skeptical when it comes to anything “horror”, be that films, computer games, books, etc…. I’ve watched horror films with people who have screamed and covered their eyes while I’ve turned up the corner of my lip.However - there is one game (or more precisely, four games in one series) that have given me cold chills, thrills, and nightmares, and that’s the STALKER series:Shadow of ChernobylClear SkyCall of PripyatLost AlphaIt’s difficult to play, even on ‘novice’ mode and even the bugs in the game add to the atmosphere. A truly horrible but utterly brilliant game, with a huge cult following. If you’re into survival-horror/first-person shooters and haven’t played these games you really should.

One thing I have observed about games is that not all horror games are scary and not all games which actually are scary, are classified as horror games!Anyways, some horror games (some are not recent, forgive me) which can be scary, depending upon the gamers mindset, are:Penumbra Black Plague (2008)Outlast (2013) Excellent atmosphere despite the clichéd setting of an asylum. This game will involve you in the horror and make you actually fight for survival.Alien Isolation (2014) Some great stealth based gameplay.Alan Wake (2011) A great, but relatively unpopular game, set in a suburban town with excellent story telling and atmosphere.The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter (2014) Not a real scary game, but a decent story. What really stands out is the setting, the environment and the extremely gorgeous graphics. The graphics are put in the game using the technique of photogrammetry, which results in realistic, almost life like environment graphics.The Evil Within (2014) Third person horror game.The Forest (2014) One of the best horror games released in a long time IMO, this is a relatively unknown indie game. You are a plane crash survivor, who has to craft tools and learn ways of defending himself from cannibals. The underground caves are intricately detailed and can give real scary jumps.Layers Of Fear (2016) A really promising game, which came out very recently. It is said to be really scary, though I have not played it yet. Among all horror games listed, this is the one new game that I would recommend you to buy.
What is the scariest game on current systems?
Oh, my, how you've all forgotten an old classic from back when PC's were still relatively new... before all those standards...Though it was from roughly 1995, it was shot like a movie, so the graphics are extremely realistic. I present to you the horror that is:I've beaten this game a few times, all the way through, but it has been a long time. Nothing I've ever seen before or since even comes close to how horrifically disturbing this game is at multiple points. This game isn't even mentioned on so many supposed 'scariest games ever' lists, even though it is much much more horrifying than any of the games those lists will contain.Make no mistake, this game is not simply 'creepy' or 'scary'; it's downright morbid.Just don't forget to look into the mirrors late in the game...

Any good mildly scary PC Games?
Well there's American McGee's Alice It's a lot more scary than the Nancy Drew game but there aren't any jumpy parts. It's a horror themed Alice in Wonderland that actually has a really good plot. It's a bit on the old side (made in the year 2000) They did release a remake (Alice: Madness Returns) this year I believe. I'm playing the sequal (it actually comes with the first game for free) and it's so fun. I'd check online for walkthroughs to see how the games are (both the first and second). I have it for Xbox 360, however. I know the first game was originally made for PC (which I have) but the Alice: Madness Returns game comes with the first game for free for that console (so they're both on the xbox now) They are horror but in my opinion just horror-themed. It's really not that bad (and the second one is a lot less scary). If you really were to go hardcore scary, then you'd opt for Silent Hill which to this day i've yet to finish my Silent Hill game just because it's so scary. My hands are shaking by the time I save the game and stop playing. I can't think of many MILDLY scary games.. i mean there are more Nancy Drew games that have darker themes like Legend of the Crystal Skull (but it's a lot less scary than Shadow at Water's Edge in my opinion)...
