What is this sweater called for a dress ?

I got my daughter a dress for her 8th grade dance and it has spaghetti straps and the school is telling me she must have a sweater to cover her shoulders. Some of the dresses made out there have those 1/2 sweaters that just cover the shoulders and some have like 1 button that buttons at the chest area, some have no buttons and they are mainly for covering the shoulders but they wrap around your back and part of the front of shoulders. I cannot find any anywhere, do they have a name to them, does anyone know where I can get one of these at ?

What are those things that people wear for homecoming called?

The thing with long ribbons.

People wear them on the day of homecoming, right?

Why do people wear those?

How can I make my own?

I'm sorry I sound so naive. You wouldn't believe I am a junior in high school. The reason why I don't know anything about this is because my mom doesn't tell me anything. She thinks I should just go to get my education and not take part in the school spirit, but I want to.

What do British/English people call sweaters?

Someone had told me they called them 'jumpers' but others have told me that this was incorrect. Are there any people from the United Kingdom or any other Countries who know what English/British people call sweaters?

By sweaters, I mean something that looks like this: http://www4.assets-gap.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/859/859645/big/on859645-00vliv01.jpg

We also call them hoodies here.

Why is a jumper called a jumper, and a sweater a sweater? What's the difference?

A knitted pullover is called a jumper in Britsh usage but a sweater in American. Actually, in American usage, any moderately heavy, knitted upper garment is called a sweater, whether it's a pullover or a cardigan (which opens down the front--this may also be British usage, but I'm not sure). To Americans, both pieces of a twinset are sweaters. I suppose the reason Americans call such garments sweaters is that they keep one warm.

In American usage, a jumper is a sleeveless dress meant to be worn over a blouse or a shirt. This may be the thing Brits call a gym slip or gym tunic.

Why do black people wear winter clothing in the summertime?

LMAO "coats and sweaters"? HAHA are you in Alaska cause I NEVER witnessed that ever.

"And to the people that SWEAR they've never winessed this- you're either lying or have led a very sheltered life."

Umm no. Black people usually don't wear sweaters unless their name iz Carton Banks nor do they wear COATS in summer. It's summer baby people want to show off their bodies not cover them up. Now you are the one who lives in a "sheltered environment". Better yet your thinkin iz off.

"forgot to add that i live in the stockton california area and if yahoo would allow it ,i would post pictures to prove my question is valid!"

I hated when people dress up their pets. But is it wrong that I notice how nice our dog looks in the Christmas picture wearing the same sweater as everyone?

I hated when people dress up their pets. But is it wrong that I notice how nice our dog looks in the Christmas picture wearing the same sweater as everyone? Not it’s not wrong to enjoy happy times. Just don’t forget to remove the sweater after the photo shoot is done because sweaters must be very uncomfortable for dogs, especially indoors.Another tip: You can avoid a lot of anxiety for yourself by not being so judgmental of others. That way, if you accept others and their way of living at face value, without judging, you don’t have to live up to your own judgments. Why? Because you never made a judgment to live up to—that’s why!Have fun with your dog.
