Why are many Romanian pop songs sung in Spanish?

You have to understand that Romanian is not trendy or popular in Romania. Everything foreign sells and gets respect (if from the “cool” foreign countries, wether Western European, North American, or Latin American - but definitely not the “uncool” or “lame” or “backwards” countries such as Russia or Hungary). That is why you will see so many signs in English (or, if more hipster, in more obscure languages), and few restaurants or clubs have Romanian names. For example, some of the top clubs were called Bamboo, Beat of Angels, or Fratelli for example (not bambus, ritmul îngerilor, or frați). In the trendy areas you will not see many Romanian restaurants, but rather Italian or Lebanese or Argentinian steak places. The most desirable Romanian women generally prefer a middle aged foreigner (again, if from a “cooler” culture) than a younger, fitter, smarter, and even richer local. Being foreign, from the West or from an exotic place (especially Latin America) earns popularity points.Having said that, music is no different. For instant “popularity” points, the music can be in a foreign language. Now, every girl who went to work for a few seasons in Italy milking cows or selling her body also believes she can speak Spanish, because the languages look so similar in writing. And Spanish is a bit “cooler” and more “exotic” because it reminds them of telenovelas and sexy Latin lovers. So, in a nutshell, many Romanian pop artists butcher the English or Spanish languages for instant popularity points which, in their view, help mask their obvious lack of musical talent and hideous pronunciation. As this type of music caters to women mostly, appearances have a very important preponderance, whereas substance is negotiable.Yes, these songs are an embarrassment to Romanians worldwide , but they are very popular with a segment of Romanian women due to the “coolness” factor of not being sung in Romanian. Here are some examples. The English in the clip below is acceptable, but the Spanish is unrecognizable. This is one of the best ones in Spanish, although the Romanianness cannot be entirely hidden:Here is an otherwise ok song, but ruined by the accent in Spanish:
