Were the words of Irish Prime Minster Kenny intentionally disrespectful of President Trump, since they were said in Trump's presence?

It was probably pretty pointed. It seems somewhat idiotic to participate in Irish (or Greek, or other European) celebrations which (at their basic form) come from the immigrant population (who - at a different time were also hated, despised, and feared) while talking about curtailing immigration. The particularly heinous way that the current administration deals with immigration (to the point of not allowing dying refugees who have been vetted into the country) is particularly heartless, and bizarre if one celebrates the diversity of America.I don’t think it is disrespectful to point out someone who is being a hypocrite - or at the very least inconsistent. Somehow, white Christian immigrants are OK - and should be celebrated - but the brown non-Christian kind - well they can go die.It might also be pointed out that not only does this go against the general point of celebrating St. Patrick’s day, or even against St. Patrick’s spirit - but also the more important concepts of Christianity which would be aghast at keeping one’s neighbors out.In Trumpland - facts are offensive I suppose - but what can be done about it.

What does backstop mean in Brexit terms?

“Backstop” means the position that the UK guarantees to implement if it can’t agree to any other arrangements before the Brexit Article 50 leave deadline expires. The backstop concept was a negotiating position created by Enda Kenny, the then Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach). The plan was to create a staging post in the UK/EU divorce proceedings whereby the NEW Northern Ireland (NI)/Ireland land border could be reconciled with the internationally binding Belfast Agreement (The “Good Friday” Agreement - GFA). The backstop concept was agreed by all 27 EU governments as being the initial part of the Brexit negotiations. The Irish government retain a veto on the details of the backstop to be agreed. The GFA was negotiated in 1998 between the UK and Ireland to solve a long running bloody conflict. It stipulates that there shall NEVER be a physical border between NI & Ireland. The GFA is guaranteed by the EU, USA & UN.When the UK leaves the EU (in March 2019, by current timetables), both the EU and the UK MUST implement a border between their territories. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) demands this.A backstop position had been guaranteed by Teresa May in negotiations in 2017. Most of 2018 has been spent trying to formulate a WRITTEN and BINDING agreement to implement that earlier guarantee. The EU are refusing to proceed to stage two negotiations (the actual divorce agreement between EU & UK) until the backstop is finalised. In 2017 Teresa May called a general election to copper fasten her leadership and government, but was returned with a reduced position in parliament. She enlisted the 10 Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MPs led by Arlene Foster. The DUP are insisting that NI be treated NO DIFFERENTLY than any other part of the UK.The DUP demands are irreconcilable with the aims of Brexit and the requirements of a backstop! This has produced a huge mess with no logical/rational/reasonable answer. As of October 2018 (just five and half months out from the divorce deadline)The UK has no means of reconciling its obligations under the GFA and the WTOThe UK has no method of trading with any other nation except on WTO terms (the worst possible terms /tariffs available)After Brexit, The UK is likely to be subject to sanctions from the EU, USA and UN for failing to uphold its obligations under the GFAHopefully, this helps readers to understand some of the complexity and a few of the issues
