What Is Your Opinion On A 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

2005 Volkswagen Beetle Does not start?

The car has been sitting for several months, but the engine is in good condition. In accessory mode everything works/comes on, but when I try to turn it over I get nothing. No crank or turn, but when the hood is up i can hear a few quiet clicks from somewhere. I was told that I need to reset the Engine Immobilizer by doing a capacitive discharge, which I have tried twice today already, but I still get nothing. I am looking for others opinions on the problem. Thanks.

Is a 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton with 135k miles for $4K a good and reliable car?

Ugh, be extremely careful. It will cost you the price of a Bugatti Chiron to keep it running for the next month. XD

Does a Volkswagen Beetle convertible hold its value more than a regular Beetle?

Yes, the convertible version retains its ‘fun’ appeal after the plain model is just old, however, the convertible costs more when new, may cost more to insure, and requires more maintenance in the long run. They are often used less to due to less comfort, security etc, so as older cars may have fewer miles.

VW Beetle turn off passenger air bag?

No, the air bag cannot be turned off. VW as does most manufacturers does not have a turn off switch for the air bag on the passenger seat. The front seats also have a side impact air bag built into them as well. Even some expensive sports cars with only front seats do not have a turn off switch; in general, only trucks (those with two front individual seats or those with a single bench) have a switch that can de-activate the air bag. Some two seat sports cars have a switch to turn off the air bag, but in a 2002 VW New Beetle.

2005 VW Beetle - How can I get rid of the seatbelt warning?

If you mean the seatbelt chime do as one of the other guys told you by disconnecting the battery but in addition, check all fuses including engine fuses but I doubt its that. Also get someone to scan your computer with an obd 2 or i believe its a CAN scanner cable now connected to a computer scanner or get the VW dealer to scan it or if you know somebody that has VAG COM software ask them to run diagnostics and then ask them to turn off the seatbelt chime..YES ITS POSSIBLE ..good luck!
Oh and to the guy above the chime is in the dash not in the speaker..don't ask why or how but its just so.

Why is the New Beetle front engined?

The NEW beetle is front engined because it's not really a beetle - it's an Audi A3 floor pan with a round body on it and a misleading name. The original beetles have an Aircooled flat 4 engine down the back driving the back wheels. The NEW beetle has an in-line water cooled 4 cylinder engine up the front driving the front wheels. The only time it gets anywhere near the design of the original beetle is when it's driving in reverse - at least the engine is then in the "back"!Rob (owner of three original beetles, one of which I have owned for 48 years).

Why didn't they make the new VW Beetle look more like the old one?

Simple. The new beetle was based on the GOLF…front engine car. They had the technology to improved just about every aspect of what the old car was.The most notable was the GLASS. The new cars have MUCH better visibility and WAY more glass. Then there is SAFETY. The standards these days are FAR HIGHER than the old death traps. Then there is POWER. The old rear engines were TINY and pathetic in terms of horsepower.

What are some things to look for in a used VW Beetle if you are seeking something specifically to convert to a Baja Bug?

IRS - you don’t want the swing axel versions for that. When Gary Emory invented the Baja Bug it was to get his daily driver back on the road after a collision. So damaged sheet metal in the areas which you’re going to trim anyway is not a problem.Don’t worry about rusty floors. It your going to do the Baja, welding in new floors won’t be a challenge at all.If you’re doing it for street the rust on visible body panels is less desirable. If you’re building a SCORE Class 5/1600, you’ll find that is dwarfed by other concerns.
