What Jobs Can Army Mp Officers Get In Civilian Law Enforcement

MP Vs. Civilian Officer?

I need a list of compare and contrast between Military Police and a Civilian Police officer. I'm doing a essay on police relationships with different cultures and as an Army Brat I wanted to inform my classmates on the similarities and differences. I feel as if MP's are stricter than Civilian Officers and they enforce more punishing rules because you can easily loose your rank if you get in trouble, while off post, if you get in trouble it doesn't always affect your job. Also getting up to five (or 3 I forget) tickets on base will prohibit you from being able to drive on base for 6 months. So please help, opinions are welcome, I encourage them. Thanks everyone.

Is the army a good way to become a police officer?

Having military experience can certainly benefit you when it come to getting a police officer job. You can also gain some police work experience if you join the Army and become an MP. You should get a college degree if you don't have one already. Having a degree will give you more opportunities. i am 17 and i want to be a police officer. i am thinking about joining the military for 4 years to get some expierence first. i want to do something in LE in the military. i want to patrol and make bust, not just stand around and guard stuff. i have done research on Navy MA and Air force security forces which i heard is a sucky job. would like to no info about coast gurard LE i heard that is the best route to go. i am planing to join this year at the age of 17.

How do military police and civilian police differ?

My two cents which concerns US military and police only. At the very basic duties and responsibilities there really is not much of a difference when it comes to “policing”. Past that it starts to diverge drastically. To understand this one must understand the purpose of a Military Police solider vs that of a civilian police officer.A civilian police officer is only a police officer. That is, they do it 24/7, 365. They may have special duties and assignments but most of the time it centers around policing. The get very proficient at LE duties because it’s the only thing they do.This can not be said about a MP. Their time is split because they are soldiers as well as LE and as such, have a combat role. They do NOT conduct policing duties 24/7. Often times, MPs get limited policing training with more focus being on that of combat training.Additionally most military bases see relatively fewer crimes. I’m not saying they don’t happen, just the frequency of which they occur is lower when compared to that of a city of equal size. So when add together; solider splits their time between working LE and combat duties which equals limited LE experience, to that of lower crime rate and you get a “jack of all trade” situation. To sum it up. A civilian police officer is an expert in policing due to training and lots of experience. A MP is a jack of all trades, master on none due to too many missions, limited training on each and limited experience.

Hi can a U.S. military officer could he or she outrank a police officer?

the only way a military officer would outrank a police officer is if we went into marshall law other than that the civilians are still the final say and you still have to abide by civilian laws and you can be arrested by a police officer

Becoming a police officer after the military?

It usually doesn't matter what MOS you choose. Choose one that interests you and that you think you would enjoy. I would consider infantry, military police, any intelligence job, and any computer related job. Being a veteran is what can help you get a police officer job. Veterans get extra points on civil service tests and preference for federal jobs. Some police departments that require applicants to have college will waive some or all of their college requirements for veterans. Also, some people simply like to hire qualified veterans whenever they get the chance to. If you want to become a police officer, make sure to also get a college degree. Getting a college degree is one of the best things that you can do if you want to become a police officer. Best of luck!

Army MP vs. Air Force security forces vs. Army Infantry.?

You are incorrect in your assumption that prior military police experience helps in becoming a civilian police officer. There are some departments that will attempt to avoid hiring former military police if possible .. while others will hire, but would prefer another field of experience. This is because civilian law enforcement and military law enforcement are very very different. Remember, the UCMJ dictates military law, and it's very different and enforced differently than our civilian laws.

Military service in general looks good on police applications, whether you were infantry or a cook .. just having served gives you a leg up.

As for FBI and DEA, military service is great .. but you'll need other qualifications for those jobs, one being a college degree.

I won't get into the differences between Army MP and Air Force Security Forces .. those have been pointed out fairly well. As for infantry, your job is to close with and destroy the enemy .. you won't be doing that as an MP or as an AF Cop so decide how you want to proceed with your career. Killing bad guys or enforcing laws and guarding stuff.

Both can be rewarding so long as it's something that you want.
