What Kind Fuse Should I Use For My Amplifier

What kind of fuse do I need for my amp?

Fuses are added to ensure that your equipment doesn’t get fried during operation. Frying may occur when you (e.g.) short circuit something in your amplifier. To “limit” the maximum current you put in a fuse. This way the fuse gets damaged beyond repair and not your amplifier. Fuses are cheap, your circuits not so much.So in order to know what amperage your fuse must be, you would need to know what the maximum current in your circuit would be. When you’ve found that out, or calculated that, you take the fuse value above the calculated value. If your circuit takes 1.15A and if your electronics-supplier has 1A and 1.25A fuses, you would take the 1.25A. This way you ensure operation in normal circumstances and also prevent too high of a current.

What kind of fuse should i use for a 800 watt amplifier amp?

Okay, your owners manual says maximum input current is 20 amps. There is the answer. The fuse should be 20 amps.

Problem solved.

The power ratings actually call for more, but those ratings are what they call peak power, not RMS power. So the 20 amp fuse sounds right to me. I would use a 20 amp 12 volt slow blow fuse.

I have a 1200 watt amp in my truck. what kind of fuse holder should I get and what kind of fuse should i get?

That should be expected. Way too much power for that little of a fuse. I would strongly recommend and ANL type fuse and fuse holder. Either full size or the mini. The lowest I would recommend would be 120 amp, I would tell you to go for a 150 amp. And if your not already, step up from 8awg wire into 4.

I would still go with 4awg wire, just because the peak is still 1200 watts. At peak, that would be a risk for 8awg wire. As far as fuse, at 300 RMS, go with a 100amp ANL fuse.

What size fuse should i use for a 760 watt amp?

O.K..First off...These guys are WRONG!!! Never fuse for the amp...Fuse for the wire size you will be using. I would recommend 4 gauge wire, just in case you plan on adding to your system later. Fuse the 4 gauge at 150 amps and make sure it is within 1 ft. from the battery. Also use the same gauge wire for the ground and keep it as short as possible. Do this and you will never have a problem w/ the wire. Hope this helps and I apologize for the other answers...lol.

What amp fuse should i use for a CB radio?

if you dont know much about it, and have some small standard 40 channel cb you can use a 3 amp fuse, 5 would still be ok, but any bigger than that wont do anything for protection....

if you have a big 2 digit galaxy, a connex, a general lee, a magnum, or anything like that you may need a much bigger fuse.

any radio with diffrent "bands" (A B C D E F G) will need a much bigger fuse....

if you have no idea what im talking about use a 3 amp fuse.

Can I replace a 20-amp fuse with a 15-amp fuse?

A number of answers here, all with a signfiicant measure of truth in them. However, the fact of the matter is that the question is too general for an accurate answer. You must understand that if the 20A fuse was there to protect the circuit wiring, downrating to 15A will mean that you can’t draw more than 15A from that circuit in future without blowing the fuse.If the fuse was there not to protect the wiring from a steady draw of 20A but to prevent inrush current when a particular appliance on that circuit started up, then a special 20A slow blow fuse might serve the purpose equally well.If you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t second-guess. However, you won’t do any damage using a lower-rated fuse — just make sure you don’t draw more current from that circuit than the lower-rated fuse can carry.
