Do you believe smoking causes cancer?

Firstly my suggestion to you is - Please do not mind. Make your question short. No one will read lengthy questions. In fact I have not read it and I am answering just on the question "Do you believe smoking causes cancer ?"

Yes We are tend to beliver Smoking is one of the main reasons for cancer. It is not that all smokers get cancer. I was a chain smoker I did not get cancer. Similarly many non-smokers have got cancer. Why. Statistics show more than 87% cancer patients in the respiratory system get it due to smoking - read.

* Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths and is responsible for most cancers of the larynx, oral cavity and pharynx, esophagus, and bladder.
* Secondhand smoke is responsible for an estimated 3,000 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers each year.
* Tobacco smoke contains thousands of chemical agents, including over 60 substances that are known to cause cancer.
* The risk of developing smoking-related cancers, as well as noncancerous diseases, increases with total lifetime exposure to cigarette smoke.
* Smoking cessation has major and immediate health benefits, including decreasing the risk of lung and other cancers, heart attack, stroke, and chronic lung disease.

Tobacco use, particularly cigarette smoking, is the single most preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking alone is directly responsible for approximately 30 percent of all cancer deaths annually in the United States. Cigarette smoking also causes chronic lung disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cataracts. Smoking during pregnancy can cause stillbirth, low birthweight, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and other serious pregnancy complications. Quitting smoking greatly reduces a person’s risk of developing the diseases mentioned, and can limit adverse health effects on the developing child.-

Can second hand smoke cause risk of stroke and blood clots while on birth control pills?

The only ones who say that are anti smoking campaigns. See scientific articles below.
ETS stands for environmental tobacco smoke, same thing as second hand smoke.

“Conclusions The results do not support a causal relation between environmental tobacco smoke and tobacco related mortality, although they do not rule out a small effect. The association between exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and coronary heart disease and lung cancer may be considerably weaker than generally believed.”

“Conclusions: Our results indicate no association between childhood exposure to ETS and lung cancer risk. We did find weak evidence of a dose–response relationship between risk of lung cancer and exposure to spousal and workplace ETS. There was no detectable risk after cessation
of exposure.[JNatlCancerInst1998;90:1440–50...

“No significant associations were found for current or former exposure to environmental tobacco smoke before or after adjusting for seven confounders and before or after excluding participants with pre-existing disease. No significant associations were found during the shorter follow up periods of 1960-5, 1966-72, 1973-85, and 1973-98.”

Can a cavity cause cancer?

Hello
I am the same as you and have a major dental phobia. I left a rotten tooth once as I was to frightened to go and get it sorted and it got into a right mess. I hate going to hospital and the dentist, doctors and hate needles. They make me feel sick and I cannot breath and my heart skips beats and I feel dizzy and all I want to do is run away.

Well I left my tooth for a few years and it broke and smelt and started really hurting. I only went when the pain was so bad I could not leave it any longer. I had an abscess and my root had died. I needed a root canal as I had left it so long the decay had killed the pulp of the tooth. Having a root canal took 3 appointments and several hours and I also had to have a Crown too, so cost loads of money too. I so regretted letting it get so bad afterwards.

Tooth decay cannot cause cancer but if left too long infections can spread through out your body and cause heart disease and strokes and diabetic problems . If you get an abscess in your tooth, it can spread to your face and even your brain and kill you. The infection can spread through your blood stream.

You must bite the bullet and get your tooth sorted. Find a dentist who specialises in very nervous patients. They will understand your fear and they are there to help you. My dentist understands how nervous I am and I get sedation when I need work doing. I normally am given Valium( 1 pill the night before to help me sleep, 1 pill on the morning of and 1 pill one hour before dentist) which calms me down and stops me feeling sick and dizzy. I still hate going but force myself and always ask for Valium when having stuff done.Valium are waking sedation so you are awake and aware of things, but the feeling of fear has gone and you feel relaxed and time flies by very quick. You just need a friend to take you there and back as you cannot drive as they make you very sleepy. I fear having to have work done so much I look after my teeth really well now. I go to the dentist every 6 months as I knew the quicker you catch tooth problems the faster and easier they are to treat and problems never get too bad as I keep on top of them.

So go and find a dentist who deals with very nervous patients and go for it. You can ask for sedation and have the work done in small bits. I decided my teeth and health were more important than a phobia. If I can do it, anyone can

Hope that helps and good luck.

But on broader terms, cigarette is more injurious to health due to the presence of more cancer causing carcinogens in tobacco than those found in smoke of marijuana.Marijuana, since ancient times has been used in ayurveda for medical purposes and has numerous health benefits but only when it is used by a medical practitioner for only medical use for certain ailments. Its medical use dies not give people certificate to smoke it daily. Excess of everything is harmful and marijuana is no exception.Smoking marijuana may cause hallucinations, paranoia, confusion, panic attacks and in some cases may severely affect cadiovascular and nervous system.Prolonged usage of both things may adversely affect nervous system and brain health.Smoking is very bad for respiratory system and narrows the arteries thus increasing blood pressure. So in all both may seem to relax you for now and may seem to bring apparent peace but in real are causing more harm than good. So quit smoking.

How does cigarette smoking increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases?

The incidence of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and hypertension is higher in smokers than non-smokers. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Now let's take a look at the cardiovascular risk of smoking.1.Elevated blood pressureCigarette contains a lot of nicotine, these toxic substances will lead to increased secretion of adrenaline and thyroid hormone, can make heart beat faster, blood pressure rise, resulting in adverse consequences.2.Accelerated atherosclerosisSmokers because vascular contraction or spasm, blood flow resistance increases, causing damage to the blood vessel wall, the release and platelet aggregation, increased blood viscosity, accelerated heart, brain and kidney and other organs of the whole body atherosclerosis, also can reduce cholesterol, promote thrombosis, increase the risk of coronary artery blockage, will cause coronary artery spasm.3.Sudden deathSmoking can also cause sudden death, even though some people with mild atherosclerotic symptoms may cause myocardial infarction, or even death, and may increase the risk of peripheral vascular disease and stroke. The main reason for sudden death in smoking patients is that the toxic substances in tobacco cause ventricular fibrillation.4.Brain damageCarbon monoxide in cigarettes can cause hypoxia in the walls of blood vessels and lead to hardening of the arteries. Nicotine in cigarettes also reduces HDL and increases LDL cholesterol, thereby exacerbating atherosclerosis. In addition, cerebrovascular sclerosis can damage brain cells, impair memory, and cause mental disorders.5.Increase the risk of congenital heart diseaseSmoking is very bad for pregnant women and fetuses, in addition to causing fetal growth retardation, underweight, but also to make children shorter than their peers, the physique will be relatively poor. In addition, the incidence of congenital heart disease was significantly higher in infants than in non-smoking women, 2~3 times.
