What Kind Of Computer Is Best For Me

Best buy gave me wrong computer. What do I do?

My boyfriend and I have been trying to purchase our first laptop. After extensive trips to and from best buy looking for a laptop and proper customer service to help us find one appropriate to our needs, we finally found one, but not with ease. When first went to the best buy located close to our home the employees had terrible customer service and were not helpful to my boyfriend or I whatsoever. So we drove to a best buy further away for better service where we ended up meeting a helpful employee who found us the laptop we wanted. Unfortunately, they were out of stock of the laptop we wanted. So the far away best buy sent us back to the one closest to our house because they actually had it in stock. So we had to drive all the way back to the best buy to then pick up the laptop which we already paid for at the far away best buy. We picked up the laptop and came home. After returning home we open the box to find they gave us the wrong laptop!! So now I am furious due to this terrible cat-mouse game and bad service! But I researched the computer to find it is nicer and $100 more the one we originally bought. So now I am confused and don't know if I'm supposed to return it, or if I am legally allowed to keep it since they directly gave it to me. I'm in need of advice and help, I'm so stressed because of this situation. :( I don't know what the laws are regarding this situation.

What kind of computer would an IB student need?

IB Diploma Student here, sitting May 2018 Exams.I have used my laptop extensively at school, and here are the requirements I would recommend: (and no DO NOT get any Macbook unless your school requires it, some HK schools do)EDIT: DON’T GET A CHROMEBOOK. They DO NOT support MICROSOFT OFFICE, which is CRUCIAL to completing IAs. Google Docs formatting IS HORRIBLE. GET A WINDOWS MACHINE, PM ME AND I CAN GIVE YOU TAILORED RECOMMENDATIONS. RANT OVER.Long battery life, because you’re going to be cramming assignments and IAs and whatnot at school, usually on the day it’s due. And especially in Year 2 Diploma, you’re going to be at school for about 9 -10 hours a day.8GB or more RAM, because when you’re researching + listening to music, you’ll have a bunch of tabs open, that takes up lots of memory. Personally, I usually have 40 tabs open at any given time, up to 80 when doing projects. If you can get 16GB RAM, get it.Good keyboard + build quality, because you’re going to be frantically mashing the keyboard all day long, and you’re going to be hauling your laptop to all your classes, so it needs to be built well to survive the occasional drop and regular wear and tear.SSD, solid state drive, this speeds up the laptop A LOT. An ancient netbook or something can be sped up a lot just by swapping out the storage for an SSD.Processor doesn’t really matter too much, because most of your usage will be web browsing and word processing anyways. Get a separate gaming desktop for gaming.Recommended OS is Windows, for Microsoft Office support. You can get by with LibreOffice on Linux 90% of the time, but there’s always that 10% of the time where your LibreOffice files won’t format correctly on MS Office, and it will be a pain to fix, especially if you’re cramming an IA (speaking from personal experience). If your budget is below $500 USD, get a USED THINKPAD. I myself use a ThinkPad T540p, and I thoroughly enjoy it, even if battery life is garbage. If you need specific laptop requests, just message me, I will be glad to help you out! (If you’re reading this in 2019 or 2020 or whatever, still message me, I’ll *probably* still be around).Good luck in IB!

How can I come to know that Computer Science is the best field for me?

I am assuming we are referring to computer science and engineering (graduate level) here.Engineering is not yet another extension of school that you join first and then figure out. It will prove to be a ‘costly’ mistake for many. You intend to earn some livelihood using your skills for at least a few decades after graduation. And you also want to make sure you enjoy your work. Right? Then please spend a few months doing some ground work before you sign up for a particular engineering stream.I will talk about Computer science here. It is unique in a sense. Here is how you can do the ground work.1, Get a laptop (smartphones are too congested to work) and Internet connectivity and start exploring.2. Start programming. Refer any online tutorial. Let’s say you picked Java. Write simple programs for a month. Understand the various constructs available in the programming language.3. Grab any data structures and algorithms book with implementations in Java (you may find some decent and free ebooks, if you search). Watch plenty of YouTube videos to understand. Continue to code DS & A. Spend a month on this.4. Gather the courage to build a small app. How about tic-tac-toe?5. Will you be able to sacrifice the next IPL/football match/new year celebrations in order to finish the above implementation or fix some annoying bug? That shows your passion and level of commitment. It is an indicator of how far you will go in this field. Be prepared to miss some events in your early life of CS if you are serious about a career in it.Computer science is not for everyone. It requiresstaring at the screen for long hours daily.sitting for long hours daily.applying Math, DS & A and good coding/design practices.learning new things and/or applying your learning almost daily.debugging hard issues without much help.doing proof of concepts, turning them into real products, testing, documenting and maintaining and moving to new proof of concepts. You see the cycle?working under tight deadlines (now, you can forget IPL) under a not-so-nice boss/client/culture.Do you think you can do it and will enjoy it most of all?

Which field of Computer Science is best for me?

That’s for you to figure out. But… why narrow your sights to computer science? If you “love research” - there are a lot of sciences. What kind of research were you doing at the museum? Since you brought up working at a museum - curators & exhibit designers generally don’t come out of computer science. If you find “business as interesting as coding” - maybe you should be looking at business, or finance, or economics. ESTJ suggests business or entrepreneurship (as well as “taking charge” - so what the hell are you doing asking for others to tell you what field to go into?)If you like being creative - there’s also the arts to consider. If you insist on computer science, there’s lots going on in electronic music, animation, special effects, etc., etc., etc.

What kinds of computers are popular in China?

Depends on a person’s income and confidence.I’ve never used any Apple products, not that I can’t afford it, but that I don’t think it’s worthwhile to buy it when I use the computer simply to surf the Internet or listen to the songs. So, when I bought my first laptop, I asked a programmer in Silicon Valley (my Yahoo online friend) what I should buy, and he told me: HP.So, I’m still using my HP after so many years, and it works perfectly well (for me at least)I have a smaller ASUS laptop in my study at my mom’s apartment, which is cheap(only cost me 2500 yuan) and will freeze whenever I click more than 5 webpages. LOL, so I mainly use it to show the PPT or write the essays. But most of the kids in China are longing for the Apple laptops or the tablets due to the peer pressure. Chinese people still love to depend on the products to compare each other’s material wealth, which is the source of confidence for some.On the contrary, if the student majors in science and engineering and is from a less privileged family in mainland, he’d DIY a desk top using the components he buys from taobao or buy some cost-effective Chinese brand like ASUS.

What kind of job would be best for me?

So I have 2 conditions dyspraxia, and autism, which among other things make it extremely hard for me to get most jobs. Right now due to me not having a degree I have a job as a janitor, which because of my dyspraxia I struggle with daily . I have been horrible at every physical labor job I have ever had.

Now as far as what I am good at. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of science, history, and mathematics. My 2 passions in life are physics, and computers. But as far as I am aware every job in these fields requires a 2 year or 4 year degree. Which I am working on getting a degree, but I won't have one for a long time.

Anyway are there any jobs in any of those fields that don't require a degree ? Because I am really bad at my job, and I don't like being yelled at .

Which career is best for me after completing MSc Computer Science?

It totally depends upon your choice. But I will give 3 scenarios here and then you may decide what’s best for youif you have done MSc(CS) just to be in continuation with your studies and just for the sake of masters degree and dont have any interest whatsoever in programming and CS, I bet you would be having something in mind e.g., you might be preparing for govt. exams(banking, SSC CGL etc.), might be thinking to go for teaching jobs etc. Then you must continue with this and do not go anything near to CS (if you somehow opt for this, there is a high chance that you might get frustrated later on).60% of my batch mates chose non CS career after MSc.If you are very passionate about CS and understand each and everything clearly and eager to go into deep(AI,Analytics, System level coding etc.), go and opt for higher studies such as Mtech or Phd. After pursuing this, you would be having opportunities to continue your work in private as well as public sector. If you have opt for MSc(CS) out of curiosity or with your interests in computers and related tools, there is always a trend during your 2 year studies e.g., you might start liking and understand programming, may start following and start using algorithms, get curious about database. If it’s the case for you, there is high chance that you’ll end up being a great IT professional(developer, technical consultant, QA etc.).Again, its not necessarily the options as mentioned above. There might be different situations for everyone and they have to act according to that. From our batch of 30 students, only 1 went ahead for research. 7 including me opted and got jobs in IT, out of this only 1 got campus placement. 6 others tried for IT career(though they were much better in studies as compared to me) and had to give up due to family and other issues and psychological pressures(mostly due to high hopes from family that son/daughter will start earning after studies) and ultimately opted for alternate careers in govt. jobs . 8 of my batch mates are now in govt. jobs(bank, scientific assistant, SI police etc.). 4 opted for different path and went ahead to pursue different courses(B.Ed, LLB etc.). 4 are into teaching career. For remaining, its unknown as some got married and left job(housewives) and some are not in contact. To summarize everything, it finally comes to you to choose between different options. :-)

Name my computer for me! Best answer goes to most creative...?

SYN

"The goddess gatekeeper of heaven, Syn ("denial"), denies entry to anyone she deems unworthy. As all seeing and perfectly just, Syn is the goddess on whom oaths are sworn. She is also invoked in lawsuits so justice will prevail."

Being that "the box thing over there" [sic] is a firewall, as well as the protector of your network, this would seem a fitting name. Besides, it is short, and easy to remember :-)
