What Kind Of Job Would Require A Family To Relocate To A Small Town In Louisiana

Best city in Louisiana?

Well, I love where I live.

I live in Houma, which is about an hour south of New Orleans. We have good schools, job opportunities, and its not too small, but its got a small town feel and very good communities (sure there are a few bad areas, but can you name one place that's all rainbows and unicorn farts?)

Anyway, the best part is that its a very easy commute to NOLA, so anytime you want to go visit, its quite easy. Also, we're about 2 hours from Baton Rouge and 3 hours from Lafayette. And I would suggest that you visit the Crescent City often, since its my favorite place in the world. But its cheaper to live here.

Baton Rouge is a family friendly city with a bit of a small town feel. It boasts a growing and diverse business community with lots of restaurants from American to Ethnic and all sorts of entertainment from sports to theater to art. LSU and Southern University are the two major schools with unique educational programs and NCAA champion sports teams. Baton Rouge has the region’s finest library system and a nice park system with five dog parks in the area, mountain biking trails and a zoo. There is a local airport and ready access to the Mississippi River and to the many bayous and plantations in the area. New Orleans is an hour away and the Cajun country in Lafayette is about the same. Baton Rouge is experiencing some of the headaches of a growing city, but nothing compared to much larger cities.

Everyone in our small town thinks I'm trashy! Please help?

It is completely your fault that you cheated(speaking from experience, when I cheated on my husband, I had no one to blame but myself, regardless of what problems we were having at the time), and until you accept that, you are going to be seen as trashy. Sorry, honey, but you ARE trashy for cheating on your husband and trying to place the blame on him, not trying to work it out, and staying with your affair. What can you do? Nothing, just accept the responsibility for your actions and get over others' opinion of you, 'cause you really don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to defending your actions, 'cause there is no defense for your actions.

Is New Orleans a good place to raise a family?

Yes. I went to highschool to an all girl school called Mcgehee uptown. It was great. If you don't want to live in Orleans Parish live in Old Metarie which is right outside of the city. Garden district is great also. There are great private schools here. The best public school is ben frankin and it is hard to get into. There are both coed private schools and all boy and all girl schools. Also, another place to try is Covington across the lake. My uncle commutes to new orleans every day from their and loves it.

I posted this on someone question when they asked about the crime.

I have lived here all my life and nothing has ever happened to me, my friends, or my family! I was born and raised here went to highschool uptown on prytania st. I went to an all girl school and you would think that from what the media says that a group of girls would get mugged all the time. Well that NEVER happened to anyone of us or anyone we know. I would even walk alone after school to my grandmothers house on camp st. I also took the streetcar to the CBD. As long as you stay away from Drug infested areas you will be fine. I always feel safe and i have never been threatened and i also don't know anyone who has been threatened or hurt.

EDIT: The first poster has obviously never been here. People who are born and raised know more than what outsiders get from the news. He is also crazy from what he wrote on his profile. If I lived near him I would be scared. He needs to go into check himself into the loony bin. Creepy!

Hey lovely- I doubt you ever lived in new orleans. Many of my college friends now leave here and go to tulane grad school and some to loyola and love it. A lot of people have know idea. Isn't it crazy that famous people love it here. Drew Brees and his wife who just had a baby live uptown in new orleans by audubon park and love this city. Oh and angelina and brad pitts kids go to the french school here.
So don't post an answer you do not know the answer to. Unless the people are moving to the ghetto then they do have something to worry about.

My husband wants to move out of state... but im scared to....?

I'd be scared too! I thought this was going to happen, so I started trying to get ready too. Here are some things I did:

1) Get to know the place first. Think of the places you like where you live now and find them in your new town. (Grocery store? Restaurant? Bar? Coffee Shop? Chain stores?) The more familiar the place feels, the less lost and alone you'll feel. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, you might even be able to meet some people from there. Just be careful. Don't share too much. But people who live there can tell you things about the place that a map can't.

2) Set a time when you will definitely for sure be able to visit with your family. I recommend both a trip home after you've had time to move and be settled, and also a trip for your family to see your new town once you're comfortable with it. It's easier to deal with a new place if you know you'll get to see your family again soon. ("Just 3 months here, then I'll spend a weekend back at mom's to tell her all about it... and pick up those things I forgot!)

3)Take familiar things and make the new place your own as soon as possible. Decor, pictures, dishes, whatever makes you comfortable.

4)Make sure your family is available to talk from time to time in case you feel homesick. Online messengers and email are also nice. Try not to rely on these things.

5)Remember that you're starting a NEW family with your husband, but you don't have to give up your own. Be the wife you always wanted to be... and call your parents when you feel like it.

Good luck!
