What Kind Of Wireless Router Should I Use

Should I buy "G" or "N" wireless router?

If your dell laptop supports N then get N. If not, get G. All N really does is expand your range. It does very little if anything for speed. Typical download speed never goes past a few mbps and G is already 54 mbps. N transmits over three different signals at the same time so in case one can't reach your laptop, the other two make up for it, which can greatly increase your range. Get N if range is important to you or if you have used G in your house before and have noticed some dead spots for wifi. N is also more expensive. Like I said before, only get it if your Dell already has built in N wireless adapter. You would be wasting your money if it didn't because both ends have to be N.

Which wireless router should I buy?

Well you do need a modem, which can be built into the router but before anyone can really answer you WHAT do you plan to connect into, DSL, Cable, FIOS, etc.

A router won't work by itself it does need to connect to something somewhere on the Wide Area / Internet side and we need to know what you plan to use to do that before anyone can tell you a router to get!

Whatever modem you get built into the router will have to match your broadband connection. If you want to wirelessly connect to some other system you need to check with the wireless provider to see what routers they recommend.

ADDED - Now that DSL is established.
There are several with Wireless G - All of the N models I have seen are not for use in the US Like the netgear
DG834NB with ADSL2 modem is not available in North America.. hopefully they will have one soon but not now.

The Dlink Wireless G unit
DSL-2640B is available around $80.00-$95.00

OR
Any of the 2Wire models

for comparison all are hyper G units.

I usually don't want to mix the modem and router so I usually avoid putting two things into one box.

What kind of wireless (Wi-Fi) router is right for me?

My advice to you would be to avoid that 150mbps router. You'd be buying a 2.4GHz, 802.11b/g/n router, and a bad one at that. If you in a large, dense apartment building you are in a nightmare area for 2.4GHz wifi - does your phone see 20 or more wifi hotspots from some area in your apartment? If so, I'd strongly recommend you at the bare minimum get a dual band router. 5Ghz wifi does not penetrate walls as well which is actually a boon in apartment buildings as it provides a less crowded spectrum for your network. Despite its weakness with walls, 5GHz WiFi should work very well in a small apartment or home. You should also understand that the 150Mbps rating is a shallow promise. It's the theoretical maximum performance of single stream 802.11n, and at best you'll probably reach 80% in good conditions with low interference and only one device connected. WiFi will get less stable and slower the more interference and devices you have connected, especially with older 802.11b/g/n standards. 150Mbps Wi-Fi will not be sufficient to saturate your 100Mbps internet connection.I'd recommend getting wireless 802.11ac in your router as even this standard is a few years in now, buying an 802.11b/g/n router means buying something badly obsolete. If you're strongly budget conscious, I'd recommend you check out TP-link's offerings. You should be able to get a dual band N router, or even a dual band ac router for under $100 USD.

How can I configure BSNL WIMAX to WiFi? What kind of wireless router would you prefer ? Access point router, wireless without modem or ADSL router?

ADSL router will not work for you, as it supports RJ-11 interface  (Phone cable). BSNL Ymax uses RJ-45 interface (LAN cable) hence you should go for a broadband router which has a WAN port on it.

What Kind Of Wireless Router Would I Need With My Network Setup?

I have alway used and installed the Linksys WRT54G without speed boost. It sells for $49 to $59 at all the major retailers. Good unit and Linksys has excellent web and live support. Change the login password, SSID and setup wireless security. Suggest you use channel 11 for the wireless to avoid common interference.

How long does it take to install a wireless router?

My husband just bought a laptop and we were having conflicts for using the internet, so the other day he went to wal-mart and for under 40.00 he purchased a Belkin wireless G-router and it took less than 10 minutes to install and was so easy. The software that comes with it has a wizard to use to make the installation so easy and fast as well and the hookup isnt confusing at all. Hope this can work out for you!

What kind of wireless router can I get for Hughesnet that is super strong to go though walls?

We live in the middle of nowhere and Hughesnet is the only affordable "high speed" internet (not really high speed but faster than dial up). My parents got Hughesnet a year ago and we have been using a router plus an extender to make it work at my house which is about 20 ft away. Their router is in the window closest to me and my extender is in my window closest to them. But for some reason, the extender is only getting 4% signal now. I am looking into stronger routers so we can still use it. I don't know what kind of router we need, can you use a G or N or whatever? If not, what do I need to look for?

What kind of wireless router do I need for my Samsung Smart TV so that I can watch Netflix (I have no cable company)?

You don’t necessarily need a router to use NetFlix. You should be able to utilize whatever box your internet provider has installed (modem, router, net adapter, etc)It is a bit easier to set up if you have WIFI, but essentially just go into the set up screen for your TV and identify you WIFI and plug in your WIFI password and you should be good to go. If you don’t have WIFI, you can run an ethernet cable to the TV and plug it in.Your Samsung smart TV comes with the NetFlix app pre-installed. As long as your TV has internet connectivity, you should be able to just open the NetFlix app and use it.
