What Kind Of Work Can I Do In World Vision Usa

How is World Vision India as an organization? Is it any good?

To anyone who would like to engage in charitable activities, i suggest that you give first preference to help people whom you see on a daily basis. We do not know to how much extent they are actually using the funds on a genuine basis.Try to help the child’s education of your servant maid or someone in your office who is on the lowest cadre (sweepers etc) Instead of giving money give in the form of an object (like books, school dress or pay fee directly to school bank account). Then there will be no chance that money is misued. Though it will take some time on your part, it is better. If you do online research in google you will find many complaints on worldvision india relating to funds misuse, harassment calls and conversion to christianity. Though i do not know how far they are correct, but still it is upto you.

What is World Vision? Who do they seek to help?

I used to work for World Vision in the US (8 years). From their website, here is who they are and what they do:“World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice.Working in nearly 100 countries around the world, we serve all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.”What it boils down to is this: they seek to help the most vulnerable children in the world by building up and strengthening their communities. Although they do short-term and emergency relief, their primary focus is to do long-term development of a community’s capacity to support itself. Not enough clean, safe water? Dig wells or build dams. Suffering economy on a local scale? Training for job skills for parents, and investment in schools for longer-term improvement. And so on. Small loans to start businesses. Better, drought-resistant crops. Farming cooperatives.I hope that helps.

When did world vision start?

World Vision was established in Australia in 1966. This was after Dr Robert (Bob) Pierce (USA)traveled to China and Korea in 1947 and encountered people who regularly had to go without food, clothing, shelter or medicine. During the Korean War in the early fifties, he helped set up orphanages to care for children who’d been abandoned or orphaned. He then continued to raise funds to continue his work in Asia and then in September 1950, World Vision US was founded and then World Vision's international structure was established in the 1970s.
During that decade, World Vision expanded its operations to meet the needs of refugees in Indochina and of people recovering from disasters in Bangladesh and in several African countries. Where long-term assistance was needed, children began to be sponsored by Americans, Australians and others.
In the 1970s, World Vision's focus broadened from assisting the individual child to include community development. Since the 1980s, the “welfare” approach has gradually changed to a more collaborative relationship known as Area Development Programs (ADPs). For more information visit: http://wva.me/pH798m

Is World Vision legit or a scam?

This is very much opinion.  What seems to be case is that they are well run with good staff who do work in some areas that others cannot get to.  They are audited and are members of an accountability organization.  They have reputable partners.  A scam doesn't operate that way. What might be the case is that the 'adopt a child' part of their operation is not as directly effective as donors expect.  This is likely the worst way of distributing aid, but it works as a fundraiser because people like to think they are helping a known person directly.  In actual practice an organization is faced with many needs in community, and the prospect of giving x dollars in aid to one single person out of many forces the organiztion to make some compromising choices with limited funds.  How that effects the totality of World Vision I do not know, but I suspect that it is a good organzation that took on a problematic fund raising strategy.  A google of international aid organizations should give you some quick insight into reliable choices.  Samaritan's Purse, for instance, seems totally legit.  I am not promoting that one, just saying that great ones are there.

What motivates you to apply for work with World Vision?

Nothing, since "World Vision U.S. hires only those who agree and accept to its Statement of Faith and/or the Apostles' Creed."

I'm not a Christian, so...

It's not a criticism, just a fact.

Is World Vision legit? How has your experience been with World Vision?

World vision India is completely legit. I personally sponsored a child and the experience has been wonderful . Please do contribute.Your contribution will make a lot of difference to that child. :)

How to cancel world vision sponsorship?

Basically got the sit-down talk today at the mall about why I should sponsor a child, and thought I was signing up to get information packs etc and that I would have time to think about it. But once I had basically signed up for everything I was told this would start in a fortnight, etc. I was informed correctly, I just was misinterpreting what the person was saying up until I had to go(I needed to be somewhere, and I thought it would just be a two minute information talk)
I am a student and really can't afford anything, let alone a sponsorship.

Payments don't start going out for two weeks, but how do I cancel this? Is there a way online to do it?(I'm terrified of talking to people on the phone for some reason) Otherwise, who do I call?
I live in New Zealand.

Thank you! :)

World Vision Children...A Scam??? Please Help!?

You don't adopt these kids, you sponsor them. The majority of them have families with whom they live.

I sponsor 2 kids, one in Thailand and one in one in India. I adore them both. I send them birthday and Christmas gifts plus letters throughout the year. They always write back, sometimes with drawings.

The $30(with world vision) a month will usually go towards medical and educational costs. At least that is how it's worked with my sponsorships. Both girls were are in stable homes where food is provided consistantly by their families.

It is a very rewarding thing to sponsor a child! I encourage you to do so!

Compassion international is also a great organization. I sponsor one child through them!
