Why do land rovers have such a bad rep?
i have loved rovers every since i was little. i loved the beauty of the car. i always knew id get one day. i found my baby on December of 2012. the price was decent for a land rover discovery 2004. the guy selling me the car was nice enough to let me take it to the mechanic to see if it need fixing. he even let me drive it there, i used the high way and let me say it made me fall in love with this car even more. its everything i wanted and it was such a good price. yes the car had leaks that needed to be fixed, but every car has problems. my question is why do land rovers have such a bad reputation? i hear so many people calling it a piece of **** car, but why? besides the gas it eats up, and the leaks which every car gets, whats wrong with it? does it break down fast? btw i live in new york i go to school and work, it takes up 15 to 25 minutes of my time if i drive. and i go to see my boyfriend its about 35 minute drive. i dont find this car so hard to maintain. can anyone explain to me why this car is so terrible without just saying its shitty? thank you :)
Reliability of Land Rover LR3?
My husband is a car salesman and they just got in a 2006 land rover lr3 with approximately 70,000 miles in and offered it to me fr $14,000. I would like to know people's true reccomedations. I realize repairs are more expensive but from experience how often are they in the shop? I have a 2006 ford fusion right now and I really want to get something that would be good for us starting a family soon. Resources would help. I have to convince my husband that this is a good idea.

Are Land Rovers top heavy?
Yes and No. They stand tall off the ground so they can clamber over the rough stuff. However, they have a heavy separate chassis that keeps the centre of gravity down. Thus, as off-road vehicles they are second to none. On the road, at motorway speeds, the high stance is a problem in the corners and the heavy, ancient chassis design does nothing for roadholding. That's the older models though - the new one has impressive air suspension that deals with a lot of these issues. But, if you want a vehicle that's stable at 70mph buy a Ford Focus. If you want to cross boggy heathland in the Scottish Highlands, you might need a Land Rover. Finally, a thought to bear in mind - I've owned a Range Rover and a Disco. They were both, by a long way, the most unreliable piles of rubbish I've ever owned, they drank money and the Disco stalled every time I went in a puddle (on the road)! The solid fibreglass roof lining fell on my head in the Range Rover and the Disco went through three gearboxes in 20,000 miles, it also had a complete electrical failure at 80mph causing the power steering to lock up - very scary! Both were noisy and expensive to service. I have a Subaru Forester now - it does all the off-roading I need, its like a proper car in every other respect and its utterly reliable (it's ugly, but who cares).

When the magazines look at off road vehicles, they review the Land Rover and not the Range Rover.The Land Rover company has done a great job in creating two distinct images for essentially the same vehicle. It’s not a matter of cost. When I bought my Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX, it was more expensive than some traditional Range Rovers and wildly more expensive than the Range Rover Evoque. It’s branding and positioning.I currently own an LR4 and use it as a practical family vehicle and frequently for driving on the beach. When I was working in the city in the 90’s, I loved my Range Rover SWB. Terrific city vehicle, except that it had a hard time holding more than 2 sets of golf clubs.

Which brand, between Land Rover and Jeep, is more reliable for long term or permanent off-road activities?
My answer is based on the past 4 years of my neighbor having a land rover and myself having a jeep wrangler. Both vehicles are similar age. My jeep is 1994 and my neighbor’s land rover is a 1997 with similar mileage on the engines around 200K miles.Over the past 4 years I have watched the land rover be towed home at least 5 times due to engine trouble, I have seen my neighbor tear the engine apart to replace countless parts including the radiator, oil pump, thermostat, main oil seal and I’m sure I’m missing more.My old jeep has had to get a new battery and to replace the slave cylinder for the clutch and a fuel pump. All of which I had never replaced before, but thanks to youtube, I fixed them myself quite easily.In my opinion based on my experience, I think the jeep is more reliable for daily use and overall better.
