The language is Armenian .The text is " ե սկա ր ո Միոլ մ եմի մ բ ի թ.ին " The translation according to google translate is "And in the year of the moth" . The flag on the top is the flag of Iran.
What does this writing say and what language is it?
It's an old Chinese copper coin with 篆体 (Zhuan) style of Chinese calligraphy. This style of calligraphy was widely used for engravings and seals throughout Chinese history. As for coins, 篆体 was used during the northern period of Song Dynasty, but not after. If you read the engraved words from top-right-bottom-left, it says "炎(?)定元寶", which 元寶 means "currency". The two words before 元寶 usually indicate the title/name of imperial reign of a particular emperor, hence it would give us the specific period in history when this coin was minted. The reason I put a question mark after the first word is because I can't quite make out the correct corresponding Chinese word in 篆体. It looks awfully close to 炎 in Zhuan style, but not the same. Another guess would be 火, but then it looks like this. Song dynasty was also known as 炎宋 or 火宋, thus the guesses. After double checking the imperial titles of northern Song emperors, only one 宋仁宗 had 康定 as one of his imperial reign titles. But then the 篆体 (Zhuan) style of 康定 is:So, doesn't match what's on the coin either.Since I don't practice Zhuan style calligraphy, I can only decipher that particular word this far. Perhaps someone who knows 篆体 well can chime in. :)EDIT: The first word is 光, and with this info, this coin was minted in 光定 period (AD1211－1223), later than the northern Song period I originally thought. Just a bit more information if anyone is interested. During the Northern Song Dynasty, chief of the Tuoba clan was appointed to the governorship of northwestern China by the first Song emperor. In 982AD, Tuoba clan resisted the power grab and expansion of Song court into northwestern territories, and finally declared secession and established Western Xia, or Tangut dynasty in 1038AD. After two decades of conquest attempts from Genghis Khan, Tangut dynasty ended in 1227AD. 光定 period was reigned by the 8th emperor of Tangut, and most of the coins minted then used the popular 楷书 (Kai) style of Chinese calligraphy. Only a few rare ones were minted in 篆体, as the one pictured in the question, making coins like this priceless. Note: 光定 period started in 1211AD after I double checked sources for the name of the emperor, so it's corrected from the initially posted 1212AD.
Question about language from The Boondock Saints.?
In the "bar scene" where the macmanus brothers get into a fight with Ivan Checkov after he punches Rocco, they say a few lines to Ivan before they start fighting him. I know what they are saying of course because of the subtitles but I was wondering if anyone knew what language they were speaking? I think ive confirmed that it wasn't Russian, German, or Latin.. the only other thing i think it might be is Irish Gaelic. Anyone know? Thanks in advance
