Bangladesh: What should I give as a wedding present at a Bangladeshi wedding?
Until few years back most common gifts for a Bangladeshi weeding were crockeries items or home furnishing equipment. Now a days cash is becoming increasingly popular gift in urban weedings, however in rural areas in Bangladesh many people feel hesitant to give cash as a gift. Closer relatives give expensive gifts like gold jewelleries, home equipment, etc. I am not aware if there is any service available yet in Dhaka to register for weeding gifts in Department Stores. So, this is very common that many crockeries or other gift items appear duplicated. And many of the gift items become useless or have a little use for the couples. I can share my personal case here. In my weeding at Dhaka, I invited my boss who was a foreigner and was based outside of Bangladesh. At my surprise, he actually flew to Dhaka with his wife just to attend my weeding. Both of them wore traditional Bangladeshi clothes ! Both families were very happy with their attendence including myself. They gave cash in an envelope to me separately as a present. It was perfectly OK for us.I beleive you are a foreigner in Bangladesh. Weeding host will be very happy and appreciate your presence there. I would recommend you give cash a gift in this case unless you are certain that a particular thing can be valuable or useful for the couple which can be bought within your budget. I have only used it for bags and for seperating pages of art and drafting for storing. Vellum is a great paper for art and I have used that for both drafting and art. I like the drafting vellum without a grid on it. You can use colored pencils on both sides for interesting effects.

I had killed the pigeon in my house.:(Our is a corner house,so we were really fed up with pigeons making nests in every possible place they could find.Because of this,we had to keep our doors closed everytime.But still they were able to manage to reach their nests anyhow.One day,we had to rush to the party as we were already very late .So I locked all the doors and left for the party.I was totally unaware of the presence of pigeon in the room.After we returned home from a party,my brother took the laptop and started working on it in the same room in which pigeon was sitting.He could clearly hear the pigeon's sound of cooing. It was normal for us to sit in the room with pigeon,so he didn't make any effort to shoo it away and was quietly working on his laptop with fan switched on.When I entered the room,my brother casually told me that there is a pigeon on the roof of almirah.I,without giving any thought,clapped my hands to shoo the pigeon away.But it got scared and in his attempt to fly away,it got caught in the fan and in the very next second,pigeon was on the floor and his feathers were flying in the air and there was blood on the walls,on the laptop,everywhere.My brother tried giving water to the bird,even applied sand on the wound but could not save the bird. I still very guilty for my absence of mind and now I make sure there is no pigeon in room before switching-on fan.

Interesting question, and very smart of you to want to find out, but it generally comes down to common sense. The post office prefers ALL CAPS and no punctuation. Black on white is, naturally, the most easy-to-read color combination. If you are using lime green envelopes, be certain that the font color contrasts very well. Depending on the darkness of the green, you'll want to use black ink (if it sticks out well), or white mailing labels would be ideal! At this stage, you really ought to sacrifice design over functionality. By this I mean that you should not use script fonts or highly stylized fonts that will impede the ease of reading. Use a simple sans serif (the best choice) or serif font. The USPS is great at deciphering some very poor handwriting (I know, because by some miracle I've received packages that I can't even decipher), but the easier you can make their job in the long run, the better. Afterall, you are typing the address out, so there really is no excuse to use a hard-to-read font. What is appropriate for a Chinese wedding?
Oriental trading has tons of ideas. Red envelopes. Chinese colors are red, gold and black. I have seen fabulous glass coaster favors with asian symbol for love on them just the other day. Usually the bride wears red--you don't have to be all in red or have 2 dresses but I'd recommend trying to throw that in there--either a red garter, red stockings, or a red item in your hair. For the cake, have it decorated in asian symbols. I have seen cake toppers with several Chinese symbols frosted in glass--love, harmony, etc. Dragon and phoenix are important symbols. Try to incorporate that into the centerpieces. Or look up the zodiac symbols. Any of those are very meaningful to the culture. For your bouquet, I'd go mostly with red roses. I couldn't find much on asian flowers other than orchids which are very expensive. For the bridesmaids--consider a dress with a mandarin collar. The color can be whatever you like and looks good on them, but a frog clasp with a mandarin collar will give that flair you want.
