What Mac Computer Should I Get

Should I buy a Windows PC or a Mac computer?

I currently have a Mac and I will soon be going to college and I need a new computer. I also have a Windows phone so I wanted to know some more opinions of which computer to buy.

What kind of computer should I buy?

Kristy,

I would suggest an IBM/Lenovo or a Dell. Try to stay away from Vista as a operating system for now. It's still too new and drivers are not available for all hardware.
With drafting and design, CAD programs are very power hungry. You need as much processor, memory, and hard dive that you can afford. Look for a screen of at least 17." If you can afford it, go for a 20.1" screen. You will need the viewing space. A price range that you are looking at would be something between $2500.00 and $3500.00. Try to purchase a warranty of at least 3 years to protect your investment.
Look locally at computer stores to see what type of features that you like and need. For example, Dell has retail stores in some malls in larger cities. Also, if you can, ask fellow students that are already in your program for their recommendations. Above all, read all documentation well to be sure you understand what you are buying and the warranty terms.

Should I buy a Mac computer? What are the pros/cons?

I wont get into too much depth but i'll just make it simple.Apple:Locked into OSX (can use dual boot/a VM but its painful)Absurdly higher cost for cheap/low specs and upgradabilityLighter weight in exchange for a major lack of cooling. (mostly laptops)Repair is pure wallet rape.Great security but at the cost of mass software/game support.Great looks and a few good apple only software.Any decent Windows/Linux based system for the same cost or less:Better price per specs with easy access and upgradability universally on Laptop/Desktop and infinite cooling options. You can use whatever Operating system you want off the bat.You can get anything premade or do it yourself for a huge discount.Almost unlimited Software/Game/Emulator support. You control your price point entirely.

What are the "benefits" of a MAC computer vs Dell Computer?

I have been told that a MAC computer provides more than a DELL. If I want to program music - MAC, they say, is the way to go. If I want to prevent computer errors and freezes, MAC is the way to go. I have no idea which computer is better than the next. I am searching and researching information to compare both these systems.

I've had my DELL for about 7 years. There are two of us who share it. I've had so many problems lately that have become very discouraging to me. I've had the computer cleaned twice, and still, I cannot listen to music, and most of the time, cannot see videos (all I see is the "x" in the left hand corner of the box). It's frustrating.! I get messages all the time indicating '"Visual C++ Runtime Library; out of memory line 56; line 9. WHAT ARE THESE???

Would purchasing a new computer be the answer? Should I get my DELL cleaned out again? I'd appreciate any information, direction and advice. I am a teacher. I need my computer to incorporate lesson plans, research information, etc. at home - and then transfer same at my school (DELL) computer.

Why won't my home computer work like my school's computer? It never freezes, I can access quickly - less than a minute. Why can't home computers act the same? PLEASE HELP.

I know I have asked a lot of questions here, but I really need someone who can respond to them all.

THANKS FOR YOUR WISDOM, ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE.

Should I get a Mac for computer programming?

If you know that you will be writing code for iOS or OS X, there's no question that you should get a Mac. If you know that you'll be writing 90% of the to specifically target Windows, then get a higher-end Windows system. If you are doing anything else: developing cross-platform code, things in very high-level languages, web development, etc., then use whatever you are most comfortable with.If you are learning programming generally, OS X does provide a better environment for that. It comes with PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, UNIX shell scripting, and something called JavaScript for Automation out of the box, and one-click free installation of C, C++, Objective-C, and Swift. It also has the Apache web server pre-installed. You can also run Windows on a Mac (on a different partition, or in a virtual machine). There really isn't any low-end Mac hardware, and their customer and warranty support is exceptional (really nothing comes close in the market). However, commodity PCs can be bought that cut as many corners as you want, sacrificing performance and quality for price. We have multiple development groups where I work, where they are free to choose. All of the R&D-facing, infrastructure, web and web-services developers, enterprise data management and scientific/technical computing staff use Macs. All the groups supporting finance, logistics, manufacturing, and clinical trial management use PCs. Windows laptops are the default for general users. We're probably 80-20 Lenovo-Apple for non-server computers right now.
