What Makes A Book Interesting To You

What makes a book interesting?

I read the plot synopsis on the back cover or jacket copy. Certain themes just don’t interest me. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad book. It’s just not to my taste. Family sagas, most sci-fi and fantasy, most romance novels. There are only so many plots. I can just about guess how the story will turn out with the average writer. But should any of these books have an odd twist,I’ll go to the first chapter and read a.few pages. That’s what got me with Cormac McCarthy, and Terry Pratchett. Reviewers that I’ve come to respect will also get me to take a flyer on something I might not normally read.

What makes a book or movie interesting to you?

I don’t know. Well, I do know that I avoid the horror and zombie genre. So much of what I watch (note: I only watch movies on TV) or read is dependent on my frame of mind at the time. Just last week I watched Tomorrowland with George Clooney, a movie in which I normally would have no interest in seeing. But I was in a relaxed, sanguine mood and the feel-goodness of the movie hit the spot at that particular moment.I do read quite a bit for pleasure. My wife orders books online for us (she has a pretty good handle on the fact that my interests bounce all over the place) via the inner-library exchange which we then check out at the local library. So I usually have a blend of maybe spy adventures, science fiction, some odd ball fiction, a gumshoe mystery, whatever. I will probably start two or three of these books and then put them aside and continue perusing until I find one that meshes with my mood.I will note that I recently read one book of particular interest and highly recommend it:So my movies come from Direct TV or Redbox or Netflix and my books from a network of libraries. Other than that, I do like reading essays on varied subjects and I do that online.

What makes reading interesting?

For me, reading is interesting because I imagine my mind is a sponge and that as I read— whether it be fiction or nonfiction— I absorb the philosophical insight, wisdom or whatever truth the author is trying to convey.Like literally, the entire learning process can take place just because I can pick up a book and upload knowledge into my brain. It's a little more complex than uploading a file onto a computer but the analogy remains true. Reading is the original save as button.Reading is also interesting because you can stay seated in your room, open a book but be transported to a whole other world. A world as messed up as your own but as ethereal as your imagination. It is a place of escape and of refuge. You can experience the past, the future, love, betrayal, death, hope, jealousy and the world all without even having to stand up from the toilet seat.As long as a good book is in hand the cold porcelain throne is a perfect place to begin a jouney into Middle Earth, to scroll through Quora, or to read about the life of Billy Graham.Reading also shows humanities weird obsession with stories and telling others about them. All of this makes reading interesting, and also, you are reading this answer because you thought I would have something interesting to say…. Caught.

Does This Sound Like An Interesting Book?

I am rather shy about my writing. I have an idea for a novel that I want to post on Wattpad.com, but I've decided to get your opinions on the synopsis first. It is a Science Fiction/Adventure (There will be some action and probably a little romance, but not too much). I know that Dystopian science fiction novels are sort of overdone right now, but I want to write this because I genuinly enjoy writing dystopian books, not because of books like The Hunger Games. I appreciate construction critisism, but please don't be rude about it.

Synopsis: Drea Ashings world is shattered when her sister, Elodie, is kidnapped after an attack that leaves her home in ruins. With little but her own life, Drea sets off on a journey through the ravaged wastelands left behind by the War to find her sister.
Suddenly thrown into a lawless, ugly reality, perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Drea learns about herself; she is as tough as nails, cold as ice and an unbeatable survivor. On a journey that started as a mission to save her sister, Drea will be given the chance to change her corrupt society. There is only one flaw; Drea isn't a hero.

Thanks in advance <3

(To any of those interested in reading, it will be posted on my Wattpad account in a few days. My username is DreamingCorpse).

What makes a story interesting to you?

As someone who has been doing research on what makes a good story, here are some elements/things that I see make a story interesting:1.) Characters: well developed characters with interesting personalities. 2.) Story structure: well developed arc with an exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, character dilemma, and resolution3.) Creativity: a story line that is not boring or cliche4.) Mystery: knowing the answers to everything is boring. A story that leaves questions throughout and the audience wondering is intriguing. 5.) Problem: an interesting/challenging problem that seems impossible and is getting in the way of something important to the protagonist. 6.) Ending: "give the audience an ending that is wanted but not expected." -Glebas. This makes the story interesting, creative, and satisfying.

What was a thought you had that would make an interesting book plot?

2 ideas, but more suited to a short story....1. An old man is in a coma (stroke, auto accident, etc) and his adult children are advised that if he doesn't come out of it in 3 months, there is no hope and they should discontinue life support. The Dr. further advises them there is a lot of brain activity, and what appears to be REM sleep. Move to part 2....14 year old kid is up at dawn, sitting in his front yard waiting for some friends to pick him up to go fishing. The conversation conveys the fact that its the first day of summer, they are all looking forward to high school, how this will be a great summer.....and a final line something along the lines of ...."in three months, summer will end."2. Someone with a sketchy past is killed....finds himself on a rainy street at sunset. He stops a passerby, and realizes its someone he knew in passing form high school. This person is also known to be deceased. Where are we...is this heaven or hell. Well, replied Dave, its whatever you made of it. You mean whatever I MAKE of it. Nope, whatever you made of it. You'll see. Suddenly, you realize the street is lined with theatres, and all the marquees bear the names of someone you know. Then you realize that your life, and everyone you knew that is deceased has their life story playing. Do you really want to see if your Mom did indeed cheat on your Dad. But, do you really want your grandfather to find out it was you that stole his rent money? Its a small town, and you will eventually face everyone you know. The ultimate elephant in the room.

What makes a book boring?

Pointless rambling, wasted words, a lack of perception or insight, lack of conflict or challenge, dull characters with nothing interesting to say, characters I don't care about. (Notice I didn't say 'characters I don't like' - I don't have to like characters to care about what happens to them.)

Why do people think books are interesting?
