What Medals And Decorations Are English Civilians Able To Receive Without Being In The Military

Is it illegal for a civilian to wear a military uniform without?

"In accordance with chapter 45, section 771, title 10, United States
Code ( 10 USC 771 ), no person except a member of the U.S. Army may
wear the uniform, or a distinctive part of the uniform of the U.S.
Army unless otherwise authorized by law. Additionally, no person
except a member of the U.S. Army may wear a uniform, any part of which
is similar to a distinctive part of the U.S. Army uniform."

Here is the applicable federal statute:

Sec. 771. - Unauthorized wearing prohibited

Except as otherwise provided by law, no person except a member of the
Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps, as the case may be, may wear -

(1)
the uniform, or a distinctive part of the uniform, of the Army, Navy,
Air Force, or Marine Corps;

or

(2)
a uniform any part of which is similar to a distinctive part of the
uniform of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps

I believe however that it is an overlooked law, as long as you don't make any claim to be military, IE: to obtain discounts or influence people, you should be just fine. it was in style to wear military gear when I was in school and I still own many jackets showing Rank.

Which is greater to receive: medal of honour or Victoria cross?

Both of these awards are similar in that they are they are the highest awarded medal for their respective military (Medal of Honor for U.S. and VC for U.K.). The requirements for both awards are bravery and/or valor in combat with an enemy that goes above and beyond the call of duty. The caveat here is that the VC can be awarded to civilians who are a part of on operational force, whereas the MOH is only awarded to military personnel. A large number of MOHs have been awarded posthumously because the recipient died in combat or succumbed to their wounds shortly after. Jumping on a grenade that would kill multiple people has been a common theme for numerous MOH awards. I would say that these two factors, both limitation to military personnel and the large number of posthumous awards, make the MOH a bit more distinct. However, that statement isn’t meant to diminish the honor of those awarded the VC.

What is the military equivalent to the US Congressional Medal of Honor in your country? The highest military award given?

The Victoria Cross (Croix de Victoria). This is derived from the original British Victoria Cross which had been awarded to all qualifying British and Empire soldiers who showed exceptional bravery in the face of the enemy. In 1972, following a review and reorganization of Canadian civil and military awards, the VC was dropped from the list of Canadian decorations. In 1993 it was re-instituted and like its English counterpart, takes precedence over all other awards. It has not, to my knowledge been awarded since reinstatement.

Is a Purple Heart the highest honor of military decoration in the USA?

No it isn't. This infographic shows all the US Air Force medals in order of precedence.  Each military service has their own, reflecting lower-precedence ribbons that are unique to them.  There are some special rules regarding which you're supposed to wear ahead of the other for decorations of equal precedence (Navy Cross and Air Force Cross, etc.), but few people ever are in a position to receive both. What a lot of people don't know is that the Medal of Honor -- which is worn around the recipient's neck instead of hanging from the uniform blouse -- also comes in different forms depending on the service of the awardee:

Why did Nazis Blitz bomb Britain (military answers preferred)?

You can not judge affairs back then by today's zeitgeist sensibilities. The Blitz initial stage was to bomb English RAF into submission. So that Operation SeaLion could occur. At the near point of RAF defense exhaustion? The RAF decided to bomb Berlin. This so angered the German Command that they switched targets to London.

So, you could say the first European terrorist attack on civilians, via air power, was British.

The British DID shoot down as many Luftwaffe planes as possible. Had the Germans persisted in bombing out the RAF fields and targeting RAF planes? The Germans would have won. As it was? Britain recovered the RAF from point of extinction. Able to then shoot down enough Luftwaffe planes to make further Luftwaffe attacks too expensive in men and machines.

Is it legal to wear your military service uniform on halloween?

You can, but you can't wear any unit patches, rank, insignia, medals/ribbons, or any other identifying pieces. The reason for this is that the uniform is an official representation of the military and of the person wearing it, their accomplishments, and their unit. Just by itself--that is, the boots, pants, belt, shirt, blouse, and cap--are okay. Wearing a full and proper uniform for anything other than official business would suggest official endorsement of that event (which is why it's illegal for soldiers to attend political rallies in uniform, for example, unless given permission to do so).

EDIT: Isaac's answer is another reason why you shouldn't do that. But in that case... that's just pathetic.

Why doesn't the British armed forces reward a medal for being injured in a battle such as the US Purple Heart?

The two nations approach medals very differently. The US is happy to award medals to recognise ordinary service, the UK awards them only for noteworthy events. It’s common to see US service personnel with only a couple of years non-operational service sporting ribbons on their chest. The Brits won’t. Generally speaking, if a Brit has decorations they’ve done something noteworthy. So why not an award for injuries? Well, as often as not they come down to just bad luck. Who gets wounded in combat can be pretty random. You don’t have to do anything heroic to get hit, you just have to be having a bad day. Now, getting hit and continuing to fight in spite of your wounds? That probably will pick you up a gong in the British army. Because that’s actually pretty heroic. In general the Brits aren’t as ideological about military service, they’re a lot more pragmatic. You get medals for things you do, not for things other people do to you.
