What Nyc High School Should I Go To

People in nyc--which high school should i go to?

i think you should go to the Loyola high school thats the one i teach at

Moving to NYC in High School ? I need tips !!?

Like LJ said, there are many competitive high schools in the city. Stuyvesant is the best high school in the city (I utterly despise that school. I attended a rival school called Brooklyn Tech). Other excellent schools include Bronx Science and Staten Island Tech (that's far from Manhattan). Brooklyn Tech is good, but it's not the cream of the crop. You have to take a test in the 8th grade in order to get into one of these schools. There are some good high schools in the outer boroughs, but you have to be a resident of that borough in order to qualify for admittance (i.e. Townsend Harris in Queens). I'm not that familiar with Eleanor Roosevelt, but I've heard good things.

The subways are generally safe, unless you ride to areas like the Bronx and eastern Brooklyn. Try to stand around other people and not in a deserted part of the platform. There are annoying performers who dance in subway cars and ask for money. Ignore them. There are also panhandlers. Some of them are passive and simply want money for food. Others are more aggressive. However, they rarely act violent towards people. When you ride the subway, don't act paranoid. Just use common sense.

Many people like to visit Central Park. I'm not one of them. It's a nice park, but crime occasionally occurs. I prefer smaller parks like Riverside Park. On a nice day, I like to ride the Staten Island Ferry. Even if you're not heading to Staten Island, it's fun and you get to see the Statue of Liberty. The best part is that it's free. You can also walk across the bridges of the city (do so during daylight hours). There are many cool neighborhoods in Manhattan, including Times Square and Chinatown.

PPAS or Brooklyn Tech? (NYC High Schools)?

Hi, we got high school acceptance letters last Thursday and I got into the drama program at PPAS and got into Brooklyn Tech with a score of 548 on the SHSAT. I know so much about Brooklyn Tech because a lot of old students from my middle school go there and I can ask them questions any time. I also went to their open house in the fall and researched it a ton. I don't know much about PPAS though - only whatever the students and teachers told me at my audition and callback and what InsideSchools has said on their website and in a video. I also don't know if I should 100% trust what people said at my audition and callback because every school wants kids to come there and will say only positive things. So I have some questions about PPAS. Preferably a student or parent could answer these.

- Is it true that the academics are good? Are they mediocre? I've heard mixed things about them from multiple sources.
- Do colleges like it that kids attend PPAS?
- Is the drama program there good? My main concern is that I won't get the training in acting that I'm looking for at Brooklyn Tech, so if PPAS has excellent drama classes that could alter my decision.
- At the audition I was told that PPAS will allow you to be absent/taken out of class if you have professional work in the arts (a play, movie, etc.). Does this work out? Will teachers help a student out if they missed a lesson and are confused? How are the teachers in general?

Thank you!

I am a Junior in NYC high school with 16.24 credits, i need 44 to graduate, what should I do?!!!?

You should certainly look into going to school this summer. However, I doubt that you could make up enough credits to graduate on time.

You are probably looking at graduating a year late.

I'm sorry, but there's not much else to say. You really should have started thinking about this sooner, when there was still time to do something about it. Why did you allow yourself to get this far behind?

Talk to your guidance counselor. Perhaps you can at least minimize how much extra time you will have to spend in high school.
