What Phase Is This Moon In

Questions about the moon's phases?

Yes I agree with your answers although to question 1 it's the revised answer in additional details that are correct.

1. The phases of the moon are the same all over the world at the same time. So your additional details are correct.

2. The phases of the moon change so slowly that if it's waning gibbous at 9pm it will still be waning gibbous 3 hours later. Unless it turned third quarter at 10.30pm so if you were super pedantic it could have been visually 3rd quarter the whole time but technically waning gibbous at 9pm and waning crescent at midnight I suppose but I think the answer you're looking for is if it's waning gibbous at 9pm it'll still be waning gibbous at 12pm.

How to figure out the Moon's Phases?

I'm not quite sure how to even begin to solve these questions; could anyone provide some insight?

Determine either the position in the sky (western horizon, west, meridian, east, eastern horizon), the time of day (sunrise, 9 am, noon, 3 pm, sunset, 9pm, midnight, 3 am), or the phase of the moon (waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent, new) in the following situations:

a) moon is on the eastern horizon at sundown
b) 7 pm and the moon is in the east
c) meridian at dawn
d) rising at 3pm
e) Where in the sky is a first quarter at midnight?
f) Where in the sky is a waning crescent at sunrise?
g) Where in the sky is a waning gibbous at sunrise?
h) What time is it when the full moon is setting?
i) What time is it when the new moon is on the horizon?
j) What time is it when the first quarter moon is crossing the meridian below your horizon? [for you but visible on the other side of the world]
k) Can you see a full moon during the day? Why or why not?
l) If the moon is full and you were standing on the moon, what phase would the earth be?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What phase of the moon is farthest from the sun?

Full moon

What is the phase of the Moon if, on the first day of spring, the Moon is located at the position of...?

First day of Spring Sun is at Vernal Equinox.
If Moon also at vernal equinox then It will be NEW Moon
If Moon at Autumnal equinox ( i.e opposition to Sun) then it will be Full Moon.

If the Moon is at the solstice( ie 90 degrees away from sun) then the phase will be quadrature.
At summer solstice the moon is waxing i.e moving from new to full, and when at winter it will be waning ie moving from full to new.

hope it helps.
bye.
