What Phone Is Best For A Pilot

Best Airline for pilots?

I am 18 years old and just graduated high school. I plan on going to college for 4 years and then attending a local flight school in my town and become a commercial pilot. I've been doing some researching about different airlines. From what I've gathered, Southwest Airlines has the best pay and benefits compared to the other major airlines. But Detla Airlines fly to other countries like Ireland, Japan, etc. Southwest stays local, and the farthest they travel is to the Caribbean, from what I've gathered. You see, I'm a person that wants to travel and see the world. I don't want to stick to just the USA, I want to visit other countries and travel and explore. I've heard that Southwest and Delta have competitive pay and similar benefits. But I am not for sure. Any pilots out there care to help me out a little bit? I'm just a young future pilot trying to find the best airline to work for.

What phone is best for a pilot?

(1) It makes no difference to me. I've used both. I have an android.

(2) For VFR flying I recommend keeping it simple. These gadgets, especially more than one, can be too big of a distraction and prevent you from keeping your attention outside the aircraft where it needs to be 95% of the time. An iPhone is sufficient and it cuts down on clutter.

(3) For professional flying I still use both but it depends on how the plane I'm flying is equipped. If it has CRT's I stick with the phone. If it doesn't, I'll use the pad.

(4) Others opinions may vary.

Do pilots keep their phone on?

I have been a Chief of Flight Test with a major aircraft manufacturer for several years. When we conduct flight tests for qualification, one of the subtests is an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Performance test. This test is conducted by engineers who specialize in EMC and EMI (Electromagnetic Interference).I was curious about the reason for turning off my phone’s transmit/receive mode (i.e. put in airplane mode), so I asked one of our EMC guys about it.He laughed. “We leave our phones on all the time when we conduct the tests. They have absolutely no effect upon the performance of the aircraft’s avionics”.A little further research confirmed several of the other answers here. Your cell phone switches rapidly between towers. Additionally, the route of the aircraft may take it outside of cell phone coverage range. Each of these factors cause your battery to drain faster.I therefore concluded that, from the airline’s perspective, the interference from cell phones is low risk. However, from the cell phone carrier perspective, high volume usage from airborne cell phones is likely to tax the tower switching capabilities. I expect this is the real reason we are asked to turn off / put our phones in airplane mode.

What does it mean when atc gives the pilot a phone number?

It means they want to talk. Generally the pilot can ask for one and he should have them "mark the tape" so the conversation in question can be found easily. It's usually not a big deal.

Do airline pilots use their cell phones while in flight?

The company for which I flew, prohibited cell phone and laptop use in flight. Also, you are out of reach of a single tower most of the time. I have read where if you are in reach of many towers, your cell can’t connect. I am not sure of this. A few phones that are being used will not interfere with the aircraft’s navigation. Maybe having 100 passengers on their phones might.I do know that while passengers were deplaning, we would phone the hotel and request the crew van. I have also left my phone on and when on final to land it rang an incoming call. There was an incident I know about where the First Officer was on his phone and not clearing the right wing while the Captain was entering the gate area and clipped the right wing on a concrete wall. This was not a good way to begin a career in the airline. The FAA has regulations on what you can and can’t do while in flight. They are different below and above 10,000 feet. Your company can also make more strict regulations. Break them and you are taking a chance.BTW, distractions in the cockpit at altitude are very different than driving while texting or talking on the phone. Things don’t happen very quickly at FL350. There are no traffic lights, other vehicles coming within feet of each other, screaming kids in the back seat—you get the idea?

Which pilot training academy is the best for pilot training in Bangladesh for a low cost?

The best pilot training academy for Bangladesh nationals might not be in Bangladesh itself, the reason why I say this is because flying operations in Bangladesh are expensive compared to other countries so doing your flight training in a foreign country might be better suited. I know it doesn’t entirely answer your question but thought of providing my input. We have a website, Aviationfly.com - Find your Pilot/Aircraft Maintenance/Cabin Crew School! , which covers pilot schools all across Asia but doesn’t cover Bangladesh yet (we are currently working on India) you can find over 200 pilot schools in the Asia Pacific region here
