lol starr is right. Even if AT&T finds out somehow, they can't do a thing about it but state that your iPhone is "out of warranty." It means absolutely nothing as AT&T wouldn't do a thing if your iPhone bricked just by normal use. They have despicable regulations. I highly recommend jailbreaking. If you have an iphone 4, go with 4.0 jailbreaks; if you have a 3gs or 3g, go with 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. If your phone does brick (mine has twice now), it's easily fixed by running a program called blackra1n and restoring the iPhone. JUST DO IT!!!!

Some programs available after arent legal but thats your decision to install them. I am not sure, some librarys block installing programs onto their computers others do not. I would say try it theres nothing you can loose except your warranty if you jailbreak. Edit: I have also jailbroken my iPod touch many times( I like updates which kill your jailbreak) I had done much research and after all the info I had come upon it is not only legal but fairly safe because of iTunes restore fixing almost all problems.
