What R Good Vacations And Activites With Family

Where is a good family vacation spot in Colorado?

My husband and I, along with our 5 year old daughter and 16 year old foreign exchange student, are wanting to take a short trip to Colorado. I am really not sure of where to go. We are not going to be skiing, we just want to spend a few days playing in the snow. We are planning on leaving either the 25th or the 26th and returning home on Monday the 29th - if that matters.

We are in the Dallas, Tx area and I have a friend that suggested Estes Park which is going to be about a 14 hour drive - so anything a little closer would be great. The whole point of this trip is to let the kids play in the snow - so I am hoping there will be plenty!

What can I do for fun? My family never goes on vacation?

I'm sick of it! Every single person I know is on vacation right now (it's spring break) except me. I'm not exaggerrating either. There was this $900 trip that the school put out and everyone I know is going (and it's not like a know a small amount of people, I have a lot of friends, who are all on vacation). I didn't really want to go because it was where I used to live before I moved so it didn't matter, I guess. But, then my dad made it seem like we'd go to Disney World if I didn't go on that. But, I'm guessing that was only a ploy so I wouldn't want to go on the school trip and cost him money. We never went. I haven't left the state for two years. My family is too lazy to take me anywhere nearby and I have no friends to be with and nothing else to do.

So, is there even anything I can do when my parents won't let me go anywhere? I'm extremely bored and all my mom wants to do for fun is bring me to Kohl's so she can return some clothes.

Best place in arkansas for family vacation?

I would recommend staying in DeGray Lake Mountain Park off AR-7. It is somewhat secluded, with beautiful scenery, lots of activities, and is just 20 minutes or so away from the town of Hot Springs, an equally gorgeous place, where there are lots of restaurants, shopping, and of course, the relaxing hot springs themselves! There's the famous Mountain Tower there, sort of like Clingman's dome in the Smokies, and there are also some theme parks there if your going with kids.

Alternatively, Eureka Springs is a good destination for cabin rental and it's situated right in the heart of the Ozarks.

I was very satisfy with my visit to Arkansas and DeGray was pretty good for me. Another suggestion for the family would be to go to Craters of Diamonds, the only place in the world where you can mine for diamonds! My family didn't fin any wen we went, but 8 people found em that day. It is a neat experience and it's fun for the family too.

Hope this helps!

What are some of the best family vacation spots?

atlantis would be a fantastic idea. its in the bahamas and it soooo much fun. They have a slide that goes under a shark tank, snorkeling, scuba diving, an aquarium, a waterpark, and for you a spa and adult pools. its so much fun and would be great for boys. im not sure if you need a passport. also you could check out north carolina beaches. i live in wrightsville beach and its a lot of fun here. theres parades, fire works, parks, and a lot of beach. both would be good choices. :)

What are some good ideas for family vacations in Texas, Louisiana, Ark, and Mississippi?

Texas: San Antonio or Houston both have TONS to offer ... amusement parks, shopping, sight seeing. I'd choose San Antonio first - ALAMO, Riverwalk, Seaworld, Six Flags. Houston, although the new Aquarium in Georgia gets all the fanfare, Houston's Downtown Aquarium is the BEST - I've been two 4 Aquarium - so far, none, including Georgia's beat Houston's. Olde Town in Houston is a fun place to shop for unique things.

Louisiana: New Orleans - although the French Quarter isn't family friendly, there's plenty to do in and around N.O. that is. Jackson Square, Trolley's, the Audubon Zoo and a Six Flags just on the outskirts. Shopping and GREAT food too. Two words: SWAMP TOURS - FUN!

Arkansas: Cabin Resorts - Chit Chat Chaw, if it's still around was loads of fun for my family when I was younger. Plus, there's always Dogpatch USA. Think Ozark Mountains, curvy car rides, rustic restaurants.

Mississipi: I don't recommend a lot here.

What are some fun family activities in Kauai?

Depending on the age of your children, there's a number of fun activities to do on Kauai.  Having visited not long ago, I can tell you the following:The zip lines at http://www.adventureskauai.com/ in Princeville were amazing, but they are quite high and the 'King Kong' is 1200 feet long, so it might not be for the faint of heart.  There weren't any children in our group, but I don't see why a teenager wouldn't enjoy this.Taking a charter tour of the Na Pali coast (w/ snorkeling and meals) is a must do - we saw spinner dolphin pods, numerous whale breaches, and the Na Pali coast is breathtaking.  There were a number of teenagers on the tour - they all seemed to love the sea life.If you're planning to check out the Waimea canyon (which I think is a must), stop by Hanapepe and check out the suspension bridge.  You don't see too many of these around anymore.  Finally, if your kids are into hiking, Kauai has numerous trails.  The Kalalau trail is amazing as well as those in Kokee. All in all, a very adventurous place to be. :)

Family vacation to Las Vegas?

I'd really rethink this. A few years ago Vegas was promoting itself as a 'family destination', but they've changed their tune. There IS some stuff for kids to do ... but not enough to fill a whole vacation, and Vegas is blisteringly hot in the summer.

We spent a few days in Vegas a few years ago, when my daughter was almost 11. (We were heading for California, but happened to get a really cheap flight into Vegas.) We stayed at the Orleans (off the strip a bit, but a nice hotel. I haven't heard/read much good about Circus Circus. It's cheap -- and it's cheap.) We spent a day walking down the strip and seeing the sites (most hotels have at least one 'family-friendly' attraction -- white tigers and King Tuts Tomb and jugglers and dolphins and such) and a day exploring other area sites (Red Rock Canyon, and some local museums.) I didn't gamble, but hubby did a bit. (Kids aren't allowed in the casinos, though, since you can't get anywhere without walking through the casino, they let you 'walk through' as long as you keep moving. If you do this, you can leave your kids in the hotel room if you both want to gamble.)

Again .. if you end up in Vegas for a short stay, you can find enough to keep the family entertained. But I honestly wouldn't recommend it for your family vacation.

EDIT: Unless there's something new that I'm not familiar with, the Pirate show BigMama mentions below hasn't been around for years. What used to be a fun, family friendly, free (and very crowded) "Pirates vs. the British Navy" show outside one of the big strip hotels is now "Sirens vs. Pirates" an R rated display of 99% naked women 'fighting' the pirates. Definitely not for all ages.

BTW, wanted to add last night that OUR favorite part of the trip was the food. We'd done the research and picked the BEST buffets. (Not the cheapie 'stuff your face for $6' ones, but the gourmet ones. We ate ourselves sick.

Did you consider staying in Custer State Park in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota?
http://custerresorts.com/
http://www.visitcuster.com/nationalparks...
If you base your travels out of here, then you could see sites like Mt. Rushmore, Crazy horse monument, Wind Cave National park, Jewel cave National park, Rushmore caverns, Reptile gardens, Harney peak, Sylvan lake the "needles highway", The "iron mountain road". These are all great places to see in the black hills. The only drawback is the time to go. It's best to see this area before the middle of june, the end of may is best or after september because of the sturgis bike rally. The noise, traffic conjestion and general stress to any driver make it not worth it from mid june to september. There are some spectacular views from places like harney peak or Mount Coolidge. Staying a night at places like the U.S. forest service cabin on Summit ridge on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border can be really fun.

The western black hills can be real fun if you want to find some "off road" adventures that are still on good "gravel" roads. Just make sure and fill up your vehicle in town before you go. Camping out at Deerfield lake is good too. High in the western black hills, and still in the pine trees. You could check out places like "carhenge" on the way or Agate fossil-beds national monument along the way in Nebraska. Scottsbluff national monument is pretty impressive also.

There are other places that are impressive too such as the Mammoth site in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Or even Fort Robinson, Nebraska. you see there are many options. I would even recommend checking out the dam at lake McConaughy, it's really impressive.
