What Range Of Light Spectrum Is Good For Plant Growth

Does the color of light affect plant growth?

I have a science project and need to find out if the color of light affects plant growth, and if so, what color affects it most, or what color plants grow best in. Any information is appreciated. Thank you so much!

Spectroscopy: Do plants need a UV light or just a Visible light?

UV-B light is required to allow skin to manufacture Vitamin-D. When exposed to adequate levels of UV-A and UV-B light, the amount of the brown skin pigment, melanin, will increase, commonly known as a sun-tan, and over exposure will cause a sun-burn. Humans are able to regulate their UV-B exposure by either staying out of the sun, wearing sun blocking clothing, or using chemical sun-block creams.Less is known regarding Plant reactions to natural levels of UV-B light. Unlike Humans, Plants are unable to avoid UV-B light, nor are they able to apply suntan lotion. It is widely accepted that when plants are subject to UV-B light, this event triggers the plant’s defense mechanisms. It is exactly this defense reaction which is targeted by many users of the AgroMax Pure UV T5 grow lamp. The AgroMax Pure UV lamp is the only lamp I have seen that is specifically made for horticultural use. In many plant species, exposure to UV-B light will cause changes in phenolic compounds, flavonoid pigments, resins, oils, etc. It is this ability to enhance plant growth, naturally - without the use of chemicals that the AgroMax Pure UV lamps provide. UV lighting for plants can be very beneficial but:As with any product, too much of a good thing - may not be a good thing. Overexposure to UV light will not have beneficial effects for either Humans or Plants. Proper protective eyewear and long-sleeve clothing is necessary when working with AgroMax Pure UV lamps. Treating your garden with the AgroMax Pure UV lamp is always best started with a low dose amount, with the lamp placed further away and with a shorter “on” time duration. Some strains of plants may be pure or hybrid varieties that have traditionally been found outdoors in areas that have higher exposure to natural UV light, these varieties will have different reactions to UV light than those from low natural UV light areas. Where is the biggest advantage of LED grow lights for plants?

Here are the advantages of LED GROW LIGHT:led can control the light emitting from it, which plants indeed need, such as emit more blue and red light, and less other lights——make best use of the energy and that is one reason why we call led grow light save energyCompared with other grow lights such as HPS and HID, LED does not contain toxic elements such as Hg.LED will generate less heat than HPS or HID, will not burn your plants or let plants seem without energy——that is why we call led is efficientAlso, LED grow lights will come with cooling system inside to keep led cool and enhance it lifespanLED grow light is suitable for all growing stages, easy hanging and operatingLED has long lifespan——50000–100000 hours!!! cost effective!!!LED grow lights are the best assistant of yours when you plan to plantIn the following, I will recommend some LED grow lights for you guys interested in it:Items in meizhigrowshop store on eBay!480W LED Grow Light Panel Full Spectrum Indoor Hydroponics Veg Bloom MEIZHI UK | eBay300W LED Grow Light Panel Ful Spectrum Indoor Hydroponics Veg Bloom MEIZHI NEW | eBayItems in hydroponicseller-uk shop on eBay.MEIZHI Reflector LED Grow Light Hydroponics Full Spectrum VEG BLOOM Plant 300W450W LED Grow Light PaneI ndoor Hydropolic VEG BLOOM Switch Full Spectrum MEIZHI | eBay600W LED Grow Light Panel Hydropolics Full Spectrum Indoor Plant Garden MEIZHI | eBay900W LED Grow Light Panel Hydropolics VEG BLOOM Switches Full Spectrum MEIZHI | eBay1200W LED Grow Light Lamp Hydropolics Full Spectrum Indoor Garden Plant MEIZHI | eBay

What effect does colored saran wrap have on plant growth?

That's a pretty short amount of time to measure plant growth.

The colored saran wrap is supposed to change the color of the light that the plants get. Plants use mostly red and violet/blue light for photosynthesis. They do not use green light because they reflect green light. The experiment should show that plants grow better with either red light or violet/blue light than with green light.

You need to use a very fast growing plant. Seedlings will grow more quickly than a regular houseplant. Maybe soak some bean seeds to give them a jumpstart, and see how much they will grow.

The teacher has probably given your son a list of things that should be on the presentation board. That's the place to start. If there is no list, definitely include these:
a. title that has something to do with the project ... to the point and not too cute since it's science
b. hypothesis: "Plants are green, so plants must use colors of light other than green."
c. Experimental procedure: could probably do this with labeled diagrams or digital photos. Include the control group (plants grown with clear saran wrap), experimental groups (plants grown with red wrap, plants grown with blue wrap, plants grown with green wrap), and a clear depiction of how the experiment was set up.
d. results: a table showing the groups and the measurements
e. analysis: put the results on a graph and write a statement about what it shows
f. conclusion: a statement about whether the results supported the hypothesis, did not support the hypothesis, or were inconclusive. Note that inconclusive results are not a bad thing in science. Whatever happens is what happens, and it should be reported accurately.

See examples of presentation boards online. I'm sure there are thousands of them. They won't all be *good* because anybody can post anything, but they should help you get an idea. http://images.google.com/images?q=scienc...

What happens to bean plants grown under red, blue, and green light?

Plants need the full spectrum to grow well. With any limit in the spectrum they will suffer a drop in growth rate as all parts of the visible range can contribute to plant growth but if light is limited they will struggle.

Plants respond most to light in two peak ranges for photosynthesis. The first peak is in the blue range (430 to 450nm) and the second peak, is in the red range (680 to 700nm) but they respond across the spectrum even in ranges beyond the visible. In between these two peaks, in the green spectra, the absorbance rate dips.

Photosynthesis and growth regulation spans 300-800nm. Plants use light and changing light duration to keep themselves regulated to the changing seasons.

Vegetation or foliage plants grow best under bulbs emitting blue spectrum light. Blue is 400-475nm because chlorophyll peaks at 430 - 470nm plants use this part of the spectra.

Flowering plants require light from a red-orange emitting grow light. Red visible spectra is 580-700nm but plants also need the near infrared (~730nm) to regulate them to flower & fruit properly.

Green light is reflected so is not critical for growth.

What is the best LED spectrum for marijuana growing?

The best LED Spectrum for growing Marijuana differs based on the stage your plants are in and what they need. In Veg, a more blue and purple spectrum is used as that seems to be best for vegetative growth. During Flower, the reds and yellows are increased as those are beneficial for bud growth. The ratio of the different colors is what makes up your light spectrum and most lights aren't adjustable when it comes to this. Instead they have a Veg switch and a Flower witch like this Viaprspectra here: VIPARSPECTRA Reflector-Series 450W LED Grow Light Full Spectrum for Indoor Plants Veg and FlowerThere are some LED lights that allow you to adjust the amount of reds and blues in the spectrum and you can view those here: VIPARSPECTRA Dimmable Series PAR450 450W LED Grow Light - 3 Dimmers 12-Band Full Spectrum for Indoor Plants Veg/BloomLet me know if you have other questions like best height for having the lights from the plants and such.Happy Growing!

Which colors of lights work best for growing plants?

Green would be worst, because plants reflect green--that's why they appear green. There are two main chlorophylls (types alpha and beta) that are your main concern. Check out the absorbtion spectra on the link prvided--there are four peaks, two for each chlorophyll. Your best bey is to optimize the light output in these four regions as best as possible.
