What Re The Geographical Reasons For The West Not Aiding The Byzantine Empire In The 14th Century

How did the Byzantine Empire last for more than a 1000 years after the Roman Empire?

The question stems from a false assumption, because the answer, essentially, is that the Byzantine Empire was the Roman Empire. If the Byzantine Empire lasted a thousand years longer than the Roman one, it would be here today and would still exist for the fore-seeable future. The Empire went through several transformative periods throughout its history yet retained an extensive continuity of institutions and governance, with an unbroken line of Emperors right back to Augustus. At no point was the Roman Empire replaced by some other entity known as "Byzantium" in the east, and the name was only applied to the Empire some hundred years after it finally ceased to exist. In a very real sense, the Byzantine Empire came into existence in the 1560's only a hundred years or so after the last remnants of the Roman Empire were subsumed into the Ottoman Empire. It is a name invented out of avarice and conceit for an imperial past western Europe did not feel the actual Roman empire deserved, which is still used today out of habit, but also, for example, because people struggle to wrap their head around the idea that an official language changing doesn't mean a country ceases to exist, unless it refers to their own country.(it is funny. no matter what i add to this answer, it doesn't become "useful" despite being factually accurate, despite the fact it answers the question, and despite the fact i explain myself)

European History DBQ, Greeks in Ottoman Empire during the Greek independence in 18th-19th centuries?

I would have written this DBQ myself, and not asked for help, but my Amtrak train from DC left delayed, and I got in very late this morning, instead of yesterday morning. I was on a Close Up trip in DC with my class. I need help with this DBQ. The question says to: Analyze the ways in which various people viewed the character and condition of Greeks in the Ottoman Empire during the Greek movement for independence in the early eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Why did The Roman empire split into Eastern and Western Empires?

The western Empire spoke Latin and was Roman Catholic. The eastern Empire spoke Greek and worshipped under the Eastern Orthodox branch of the Christian church. Over time, the east thrived, while the west declined. In fact, after the western part of the Roman Empire fell, the eastern half continued to exist as the Byzantine Empire for hundreds of years. Therefore, the "fall of Rome" really refers only to the fall of the western half of the Empire.Other fundamental problems contributed to the fall. In the economically ailing west, a decrease in agricultural production led to higher food prices. The western half of the empire had a large trade deficit with the eastern half. The west purchased luxury goods from the east but had nothing to offer in exchange. To make up for the lack of money, the government began producing more coins with less silver content. This led to inflation. Finally, piracy and attacks from Germanic tribes disrupted the flow of trade, especially in the west. There were political and military difficulties, as well. It didn't help matters that political amateurs were in control of Rome in the years leading up to its fall. Army generals dominated the emperorship, and corruption was rampant. Over time, the military was transformed into a mercenary army with no real loyalty to Rome. As money grew tight, the government hired the cheaper and less reliable Germanic soldiers to fight in Roman armies. By the end, these armies were defending Rome against their fellow Germanic tribesmen. Under these circumstances, the sack of Rome came as no surprise.Goth RockersWave after wave of Germanic barbarian tribes swept through the Roman Empire. Groups such as the Visigoths, Vandals, Angles, Saxons, Franks, Ostrogoths, and Lombards took turns ravaging the Empire, eventually carving out areas in which to settle down. The Angles and Saxons populated the British Isles, and the Franks ended up in France. In 476 C.E. Romulus, the last of the Roman emperors in the west, was overthrown by the Germanic leader Odoacer, who became the first Barbarian to rule in Rome. The order that the Roman Empire had brought to western Europe for 1000 years was no more.

What is the history of georgia?

Wow that was a very impressive answer Victoria! Too bad Buttercup wanted to know about the state of georgia, not the soviet socialist republic of georgia. The british founded georgia as a penal colony. Instead of sending someone to prison they would send him to georgia. People who live in georgia are the descendants of criminals. If you did something very bad in 17th century England, you would either get life in prison, hanging or you would be sent to georgia and never allowed to return, if the judge was in a bad mood on the day of sentencing.
