I’m just going to add a little bit more from my perspective.We consumers pay for everything that is some sort of tax or tariff levied against every product imported into the US. Trump’s tariffs raise the price we pay. Either it will harm global productivity and trade, long term, or the companies that make stuff in China will move their factories to some other countries that don’t currently have tariffs against them. They will not build those factories here, because if they had any patriotic tendencies they would already be making them here. They don’t make them here because they pay workers less over there, frequently don’t have to pay for benefits, can avoid regulations by paying bribes that while they might seem high cost less than the regulations would, and poison those countries instead of doing that here and be forced to pay some fine.Economically/profit motive consideration only it makes much more sense to screw things up really cheaply somewhere else in bulk manufacturing with few regulations then ship it in bulk over here than it does to make it here and have to pay decent wages. doing it like that also ends up lowering wages here for less technical or prestigious positions.long term it is a losing strategy since it engenders ill will all over the globe and reduces what we consumers have to spend, so less can be bought, but as a short term get rich quick scheme it can work for decades while slowly making things worse globally, and in particular here in the US where we buy much of the cheap crap made elsewhere.Edit: I changed a few typos that I hadn’t noticed when I posted this answer.
