What should a homecoming dress look like?
I've never been to any fancy dances and stuff so idk what shoes and dress to get for home coming on OCT 11!!! I'm 5'7 so I don't want my shoes too tall but I hate flats. Ideas? Also my date is running for homecoming king!!! I want to look really nice! HELP

Homecoming dress too formal?
So I bought this dress ages ago and I really really like it but I've never had a formal event to wear it for... My senior homecoming is this Saturday and I was wondering if this dress is too "business formal" for a high school dance? Will I look out of place if I wear it? Is it not party-dress enough? If it is, tips on how to dress it down (if possible) would be great!! Thanks ^_^

Can't decide between two homecoming dresses?
I bought a dress from Anthropology this summer that i still haven't worn so my mom wants me to wear it to homecoming rather than get another dress because it was $180 (of my own money that I earned babysitting) but I saw another dress i like in Anthropology and it looks more like a homecoming dress. The one i got this summer drops a few inches below my knees, has a silk black heart shaped top with a crimp/crinkles down the center, flilly short sleeves, black velvet neckline, LONG black bow that ties around back, and from the ribs down is royal blue cotton embroidered with climing roses and butterflies with a little red in them (they look kind of japenese), and the bottom has a dark blue band with black roses and velvet. It's not at all emo although the colors make it sound that way- it's mostly royal blue. It's pretty but my friends are all wearing short dresses for homecoming and saving long dresses for prom but since it has cotton it's not really fancy enough to save for prom. The other dress is a cute short party dress made of crinkled red berry satin that is woven with metalic thread to give it the slightest suggestion of gleam. It has a crimped band of same material wraped around waist, pleated top, plain neckline, and inch thick straps. Its faberic is more Promish but lenghth more like Homecoming. I can't decide which to where to what!!! My friend thought the red one wasn't fancy enough for prom which i disagree with (since it costs $280!) but my friend whose a boy whistled when i showed him it so i take that as a good sign. I wanted to wait for the red one to go on sale though!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should I wear stockings with my homecoming dress?

Is spending $70 on a homecoming dress too much?

I just don't know if I should spend the money. I know that a lot of girls pay hundreds of dollars but since I have a job and I plan to use my own money. Is this a lot of money? How much do homecoming dresses usually cost?
If you're not opposed to second hand, you can get some really cheap (less than $20). Also, check around for upscale resale shops. I've seen a couple shops in Boulder Colorado that had awesome clothes from many eras. They were really cheap. Otherwise, I'd have to recommend Sears, David's Bridal on the clearance racks, even check the classifieds in the newspaper.
What the difference between a prom dress and a Homecoming dress?
Hmm generally the difference will be in the fabric and the cut. A homecoming dress can be anything, but a prom dress is usually made of satin, tulle, chiffon, charmeuse, or any sort of shiny/luxurious looking fabric. The cut of a typical homecoming dress would probably be something like a knee-length, scoop neck bridesmaid dress. Either that, or super tight, super short, and/or super low-cut. They can be cute, but definitely not as formal. A prom dress is sexy, but not skanky. Even if you wear a big poofy dress, the top part should show off your assets a little. Bottom line: a homecoming dress makes you look like a pretty girl, but a prom dress should make you look like a queen.
