I am writing a paper on the moon landings for english. what do you think of the it (the thesis is the last sentence in the paragraph) I am not to confident in how it sounds, how can I make it better?. (please leave your opinion on the subject itself out of it)

It is well known that people have landed on the moon and returned to earth safely, this has happened six times over a 41 month period from 20 July 1969 through 14 December 1972, the first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong and the last man on the moon being Gene Cernan. The moon landings are some of the most documented and reported events in human history, with over 5500 pictures taken and many hours of video footage. This event was broadcast to thousands of people live across the U.S.A. And other nations. The moon landings are arguably one of the United states proudest moments and one of its greatest accomplishments. It may surprise you that despite all the videos, photos, documentation and other evidences, many people believe that the moon landings were nothing more than elaborate hoaxes made by NASA along with other government agencies. Many believe that the moon landings and were filmed in area 51 here on earth and not on the moon. It is not only a few people that believe that the moon landings were a hoaxes. Approximately one in ten Americans think that the landings were faked. This paper will discuss and disprove some of the main theories brought forward by Moon landing conspiracy theorists.

What are the most gripping opening paragraphs of all time?

Lolita by Vladimir NabokovLolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.The Raven by Edgar Allan PoeOnce upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore --While I nodded nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door."Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door --Only this and nothing more."Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte1801. - I have just returned from a visit to my landlord - the solitary neighbour that I shall be troubled with. This is certainly a beautiful country! In all England, I do not believe that I could have fixed on a situation so completely removed from the stir of society. A perfect misanthropist's heaven: and Mr. Heathcliff and I are such a suitable pair to divide the desolation between us. A capital fellow! He little imagined how my heart warmed towards him when I beheld his black eyes withdraw so suspiciously under their brows, as I rode up, and when his fingers sheltered themselves, with a jealous resolution, still further in his waistcoat, as I announced my name.Metamorphosis by Franz KafkaAs Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He was lying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his dome-like brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely. His numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes. The Bell Jar by Sylvia PlathIt was a QUEER, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York. I'm stupid about executions. The idea of being electrocuted makes me sick, and that's all there was to read about in the papers -- goggle-eyed headlines staring up at me on every street corner and at the fusty, peanutsmelling mouth of every subway. It had nothing to do with me, but I couldn't help wondering what it would be like, being burned alive all along your nerves.

Opening paragraph for debate.?

Define the motion. You may either define the motion as a whole, or define some of the words first, and then as a whole. After which, you set your parameters. Would the debate motion cover the whole world, or just a particular state/area/whatever? You may also start by rebutting your opponent.

To make your points across clearly, organize them. Say your first argument, followed by the details supporting that argument. After that, proceed to the next argument. Give great emphasis on your arguments, by stressing important words, and using hand gestures.

To conclude, you can sum up all your arguments/wrap it all up, by saying all your arguments. You may say: As a conclusion, this side of this house firmly believes that ------ because (arguments). You can also have a good question at the end to have your opponent think.

I'm on the debate team and this is how we were taught to do debates. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I hear out modem playing bad jazz as my mother connects to the internet. I am in the bathroom. What do you think of my opening paragraph on gay marriage?

1) no rhetorical questions in essays
2) you use a conversational tone throughout which is a no-no.
3) repetition of the word dream and idea of the American dream is a bit much in those few sentences.
4) There are far more compelling arguments than saying that not having gay marriage denies gay people of the American dream. Talking about the importance of marriage in American culture and DEFINING marriage and that importance is good but talk about civil rights, and legal equality too, unless you have a really tight word limit
5)check your use of there- its their rights should be protected
6)whomever they please
7) your sentences arent very well structured. Read it out loud and you will probably see what I mean
8) the melting pot bit isnt really helping. You have words in your intro but you dont say an awful lot. Youre spewing out opinions not the foundations for arguments here.

edit: Yes its better. You should probably take out the contractions though. And I think it would also eliminate the wes and theys. Pronouns shouldnt be present in this kind of essay.

How long should the opening paragraph to novel query letter be?

I cannot directly answer your question but I will provide links below to instructions for writing query letters and to sample query letters. Be aware that there are different kinds of query letters. Some are for publishers and others are for literary agents.Re literary agents. Because of the great competition in the publishing industry today, it is advisable to use a literary agent in most cases. Literary agents know the business of publishing and how to bargain with publishers and put together a package with international language and movie rights, etc. that is in the best interest of the author. For their work, agents get a small (10–15) percentage of what the publisher pays. Sorry, I forget the money terms but there’s words like royalties and advances. There may be others. The agent gets a percentage for his/her work while the author gets to work on his/her next book instead of worrying about money and rights and all this stuff we’re no good at. Like a literary agent said at a workshop I attended, agents handle the business end so writers can do what they do best: write. Here are the links. As stated, be aware of the two different kinds of query letters as you read these instructions and samples.Query Letter.comWriters DigestExample of a Query LetterNY Book Editors.com
