What Should Happen In My Fanfic

Story stolen on Fanfiction?

Sure you can - use the drop down list at the bottom. Select "Report Possible Abuse" and then "Not the property of uploading author."

Also review the story in question. Be completely factual - simply state that this is a copy of your story called (title) which was posted on such-and-such a date. You can't post a link, but people can click on your profile and see it there.

However, I'm assuming here that it is actually a copy. A story with a similar plot is _not_ a copy. Loads of fanfic has similar plots - after all, we're all starting from the same starting point and thinking "what if?" about the same source material. Think _very_ carefully before you accuse someone of plagiarism if all they've done is written a similar story and it's something which is strongly suggested by canon anyway.

I've read at least two other stories in my fandom which have the same major life-changing event happen to the main character as mine does - he ends up in a wheelchair. They didn't steal my story and I didn't steal theirs...it's just that when canon has someone risking his life on a weekly basis, a serious injury is a plausible thing to have happen to him.

What do you love about fanfiction?

You can explore the road not taken. You want to see what happens when Harry goes to live with Sirius? Write a nine story series and there you are.You want to see what happens if Bella doesn’t move to Forkes? Write a three story series and there you are.You want to see what happens if Bella goes to Hogwarts with Harry? Well - you can’t because she’s ten years young that Harry is. Seriously - do you not pay attention to the timelines? You want to see what happens when the incessant abuse the Dursleys subject Harry to drive him to the dark and he snaps and kills Umbridge? You can.You want to see what happens when Edward turns Bella three years earlier? You can.But it is SO MUCH MORE than just exploring the road not taken.Because just think about this :-Archive of Our Own has nearly five million stories on it.Fanfiction dot net has maybe the same. There are hundreds of sites around the web, all with thousands of stories on them. Now there are probably duplicate stories on some of these, but my point is this :-People are writing these stories for free. All these stories are created FOR FREE. People are writing them out of the good of their heart, and giving us their stories for free.Almost every other art form - movies, tv, books, music, theatre and so on - is something you have to pay for.But fanfiction is free. And while it’s true that some of it is not so good, and some of it is downright terrible, some of it is truly brilliant. Some of the best writers in the world are creating fanfiction and giving it away for free. How can you not love a medium where that happens?

What happens if you do not own the picture for your fanfiction story?

To avoid any legal prosecution I suggest you get permission. Stealing or even borrowing an image such as you case may be innocent enough but you can be sued for millions of dollars....

There is a possibility your story could get removed and worse you could find yourself in jail.

There are a lot of cases like this so be careful and just shoot the person a email. Even if they say no, there are always royalty free images out there.

Can't log into fanfiction.net?

I've been having the same problem since last night. I saw another question like this and people really can't login. I can go to stories just fine but anything that involved logging-in like updating stories, giving reviews, or replying to reviews doesn't work. I agree with the others in saying that none of the stories aren't getting updated. Something is wrong with the site. Maybe downtimes like this are inevitable but I think they owe it to their users to inform them. Anyway, nothing to do but wait... or flood their tech team with complaint emails. >:D

edit: It seems like the last updates to stories made were dated february 9, 2012. I could be wrong but it seems the problem has been going on for at least 2 days now.

FanFiction: Can You Delete A Document From The Document Manager Without Deleting It From The Story?

I have a bunch of documents in my document manager, and I'm writing multiple stories, so it's getting pretty confusing.
So if I delete the documents from the document manager will they delete from the stories that theyre from?

Why does nobody comment on fanfiction?

In my opinion, I think multiple factors contribute to this. It's no secret that fanfiction in general is stigmatized, especially ones of a sexual nature. Although us fanfiction writer's are comfortable enough to post, even if under fake names, some fanfiction readers may feel far less confident about doing so. For me personally, I don't always comment either unless I really enjoyed the fanfiction, because let's be honest, there are a lot of badly written ones out there. And I don't necessarily mean bad grammar, cause even then the plots can be amazing. I mean the ones where the plot is all over the place and you don't know what the hell is happening the more you continue reading. And even if it's not badly written, sometimes that fanfiction is just not your cup of tea. Another reason I think some don't drop a comment could be, depending on the website, they can't comment unless they make an account which they may not want to. Also, sometimes there are fanfics with a lot of comments already, but after getting to the fifteenth or so comment, the writer no longer responds. This could make the reader feel like it's pointless to comment because either the writer doesn't read the comments or they left the fandom a long time ago (if the fanfic is years old). And I know it can be disheartening. You yourself may be ready to respond at a moment's notice and would love some feedback. The fact that there is none may make you feel like you did a bad job, but assuming you have decent to great grammar and a great plot line, tags could also have something to do with it. Maybe you need to add more so people can find it more easily. Even if people skim past it the first few times, the fact that they've even seen it ups your chance of having another reader and potential comment.Lastly, you may find that although no one is commenting, you're getting a lot of likes and follows. If that's the case, just try to learn to be happy with that. It could simply mean that your work speaks for itself and your audience is silently satisfied. I find that happens a lot with me where people just like my stories and keep it moving. I do the same thing sometimes and it's totally fine. Just don't doubt yourself. If you really feel like you want some feedback, maybe try reaching out to a couple people that liked your story and ask them privately why they liked it, but don't do it too much or else you might put some people off. Hope this helped or gave you some insight :)

How do I delete my story on fanfiction.net?

Here's a forum thread I found that may help.

You can't "recall" them, all you can do is either delete them or replace them with the rewritten story.

If you want to delete and re-upload completely, log in and scroll down the control panel until you find "Remove Story." Click on it, highlight the story you want to delete, and then click the "Remove Story" button. A few confirmation requests, and you're done. Be aware, however, that that will delete any reviews that story's gotten, so if you want to save them, do so before you delete. Then just upload the new version like you would any new story.
