How to lose weight slowly and effectively?

I can easily maintain my weight by doing nothing and I remember my doctor telling me if I just went on the treadmill for 30 mins everyday I'd start losing weight.. easier said then done. I'm a college student and I'm always busy with something and I'm always exhausted and tired. I know I don't eat as much as I should so that's why my metabolism is so slow! I want to lose about 30 pounds and I don't have a certain timespan as long as I lose it :) I want to be able to lose the weight slowly and comfortably at my own pace.. I don't want to do crazy insane workouts that make me want to die and give up! Any tips? Should I try to get back to the treadmill or try something different? Should I eat a certain amount of calories? Help!

- I try to drink as much water as possible.
- I don't usually eat meat, mostly seafood, but I do eat it occasionally.

How often should I go swimming to lose weight effectively?

How effective are elliptical trainers for weight loss?

Elliptical trainers are great because they don't feel so difficult as treadmills. I do think, however, that the readouts for calories burned tend to be overly generous or high. It might tell you that you burned 450 calories in 40 minutes, but I don't think that anyone really burns that many!

I would work out for 30-40 minutes (including cool down and warm up) - pick one of the preset programs that incorporate some "hills." Don't lean on the machine or rest your upper body while you work out - it's a common mistake. Instead, try to pump your arms freestyle or pump with the skiing handblebars if they come on your machine.

A few years ago, I lost about 10 pounds in about 9 months (I wasn't dieting at all), and I only used the elliptical at my gym. If you work out 5 times a week, I think it's a very effective way to melt some fat and improve your cardio system!
