What should I do for my career?

1. Those with disaster management jobs coordinate disaster management activities and provide adequate training and preparedness to minimize losses in case of a disaster.

2. These careers are broadly classified into Natural Disaster Management jobs, such as hurricane management and floodplain management, and Technological Disaster Management, such as the management of a nuclear plant disaster.

3. Employers for these types of jobs are the federal, state or a local government, or a disaster insurance agency.

4.Emergency Management Training Program Coordinator

An Emergency Management Training Program Coordinator is responsible for formulating and scheduling an emergency management training program to improve a state or local government's ability to respond to natural disaster or terrorist event. In addition, the coordinator provides guidance to local officials to lessen the effects of such events and to save lives and protect property. As well as helping develop the training program updates, the coordinator also identifies training locations, schedules classes, appoints evaluators and ensures trainees have everything they need.

5. Natural Hazards Program Specialist (Floodplain Management)

A Floodplain Management Specialist is responsible for administering the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in order to prevent careless usage of flood-prone lands and minimize the future losses. The specialist also conducts public meetings in flood-prone regions and provides technical assistance to local governments to implement floodplain management requirements in order to participate in NFIP.

5. Technological Hazards Program Specialist

A Technological Hazards Program Specialist works under the direction of FEMA and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) program. The specialist administers the REP program in a specified geographic location and also ensures that any disaster plans are in place and capable of being implemented. The specialist designs and develops emergency response plans, and evaluates the federal and state government capabilities for executing them in case of a nuclear power plant accident. The specialist drafts, reviews and edits all the instructional information for participating organizations.

What should I do with my career?

I am currently in the third year of nursing school, and I do not know if I want to be a nurse. I don't really love it like I thought I would. I am scared that when I graduate I will be stuck in a career I don't like because all I have is a nursing degree. I tried to pick up a minor in business or communications, just to have some degree from another field, but I don't have room in my schedule. What would be a good option for me besides nursing?

What should I do with my career?

I believe this, if you are not able to convince someone, you have to work more on your communication skills. There are resources today and several success stories of people who convinced their parents. Surf the internet and you will get insanely awesome ideas, personalize it for your situation.1.Take help from people whom your parents respect a lot.2. Get rid of your ego and anger, they were just taught that having a job, a small house and a car is success in life. Face the conservative brain wash, they need help from you. You would be an inspiration to many. Explain them everything with convincing examples (Gates, Jobs et al)! 3.Prepare for it, like you do for an interview or for a presentation. You need to anticipate the questions they would ask and be ready with the most convincing solution (after going through 3-4 mock drills with the mirror). 4.Put yourself in your parents' shoes and see, how can my son/daughter convince, what does it? when will I trust them? When will I be impressed by their vision? Point 4 will help you a lot, it personally helped me in most of the situations dealing with people ranging from my parents to even semi-strangers to complete strangers.Fight for it if everything goes wrong, parents love you! Exploit the weakness :)Increase your worthiness everyday, you will be trustworthy!
