What Should I Prepare For Watching A Dog

How do you prepare for the death of a very beloved dog? I have had him with me since he was a few days old and I will be losing him soon.

The best thing you can do is spend as much time as possible with your beloved dog. This was my girl, Bailey.Take pictures of your dog on their own, with loved ones and with you. Take video of your dog. You will treasure hearing your dog’s “voice” when they’re gone.Spoil your dog. As long as it won’t hurt them, give them their favorite foods. Let them have some people treats. If your dog loved being outside, go sit with them and just chill.Get a paw kit and make a plaster impression of their paw.If they’re able, on their last day, take them for a walk. On the car ride to the vet, roll the windows down and let them have that experience. If you’re having them put to sleep, bring a blanket and let them be on your lap. The most important thing is to be by their side when they go. They need to know the most important person in their life is there and is giving them permission to cross that bridge. If your dog loved the outdoors, ask the vet if you can be outside in the sunshine when they administer the drug. Almost all of my fur babies have gone this way. When they’ve passed, ask the vet to take a clipping of their fur for you. Many vets offer cremation services. I got my baby’s ashes back in a lovely bamboo box with her name and birth year and death year engraved on it. It’s in my house with her collar next to one of my favorite pictures of her.The most important thing is to remind your dog how much you love them and be there for them when they go. Remember: you take all of the love they’ve given you their entire life and you give it back to them in that one moment when you let them go.i hope this helps, and I’m sorry for your loss.

Should I watch my dog get put down?

Aw, I'm so sorry. This is a personal decision, there's no right or wrong answer.

I stayed with both of my dogs when they were put to sleep. I didn't have to think about it - these dogs had stuck with me for 11 and 12 years, always by my side, so how could I ever leave them alone in their last moments? I wanted them to be surrounded by love and as much familiarity as possible in the vet's office. I think it's a horrible thing for any creature to have to die alone, and to me, leaving them alone with strangers would be letting them die alone. Both of my dogs went very peacefully with their heads in my lap.

I do understand that some people feel that getting emotional would upset the dog, or that they themselves can't handle it. But most vets sedate the dog prior to injecting the euthanasia solution, so the dog isn't really aware after that. I spent as much time as I needed with my dogs alone before calling the vet in, so I'd already said my goodbyes, and then the vet came in, injected the sedative, which is when I let myself lose it completely. The dogs weren't aware of it. And my dogs had seen me crying many times, nothing that would upset them anyway.

Honestly, I was a complete mess both times. I cried like I've never cried in my entire life, it felt like my heart was going to explode... best way I can describe it, don't mean to upset you... But it's not like anyone is going to judge you for that, the vets and techs understand. I'm pretty sure I got snot all over the tech's shoulder when she hugged me :)

It also provides closure. Seeing the dog's body, knowing that the dog is gone, is helpful in accepting the death, as well as giving the owner "proof" that the euthanasia worked (it's probably impossible that it wouldn't work, but, you know, irrational fears).

But again, this is just how I feel about it. It's up to you to make the decision for your dog.

I'm so sorry about your dog. This is never an easy thing to go through. Allow yourself all the time to grieve that you need. Adjusting to life without your dog takes time, it's going to be tough for a while, but time really does heal all, and eventually you'll smile, rather than cry, when you think about her.

Brushed dog's teeth with Preparation H by mistake!!?

dot feed him today, just give him water, sounds harsh i know but if there are any harmful chmicals in his system, the wter will wash them out, food will mix with the chemicals and then it may upset his stomach for a while, dont worry about the bit of food you have given him already that should be ok, but just water for the rest of the day
or milk milk is good for small dogs
i had a mini jack russell, really small as well, and she loved milk, not too much of it and not too often but try it, just no more food until say 9pm, then just say half of what you normally give him! he should be fine, no need for a vet

What do your cat and dog do when you watch TV or cook?

Well, when I am on the computer (we don’t own a TV) he sleeps. Unless I’m eating something at my desk.If I’m eating something, he sits there… starving. No, really! Look at those eyes! I mean… NO, you can’t HAVE any. It’s guacamole, Dog, and you don’t like it. Onions are bad for dogs. No! *sigh* Stop STARING at me! Go lie down. You were asleep 10 minutes ago. Yes, I KNOW that’s an hour in dog minutes. You are NOT starving! We FED you this evening.*ahem* where was I? Oh! Yes, what does my dog do when I’m cooking. Well, whenever I go to the kitchen, he has some sort of weird “proximity alert” thing going on and… Gryphon, get OUT from under my feet! I’m not making anything. I’m washing the dishes! Dog! HONEY! Can you come and get Gryphon, please? He thinks I’m going to drop something and… damn, there went the cheese… Never mind… he got it. Anyway, yes, when I… DOG get OUT of there I’m just… OH! Oh, Gryphon, are you all right? I didn’t mean to step on your paw! Let me have a look… Oh, you’re all right! You’re not flinching when I squeeze it, I just caught the hair. Gryph, don’t LOOK at me like th-… All right… here. Have some cheese. I didn’t want it anyway. What was the question, again?

My dog hasn't eaten anything in 9 days?

Thats animal cruelty, and if you dont do something NOW you are going to be charged for animal abuse and neglect, possibly do jail time and at the least pay a hefty fine.
By not taking the dog to the vet, you ARE in essance starving her. Watch "animal cops" and see what happens to those owners whos animals are sick and not eating, but they do nothing to get that animal help. Watch them sob in court and pay $5,000 and even possibly get a 2 year jail sentence. Watch the animal be humanely euthanized because by then its too late to save them, and theyre suffering in agony.
You're watching your dog starve to death. Shame on you.

My Dog Shakes when she is waiting to be fed, what should I do to help her be relaxed?

I have had my 4yr old female dog (beagle mix) since she was 6 weeks old. I noticed around 2 yrs old she was very food motivated and very excited when it was time for her to eat. We feed her twice a day and both times it was the same song and dance (literaly she jumps and spins around and wont take her eyes off of anything food related.) When she does eat its usually fast even tho I have put obstacles in her bowl to try and slow her down.
Recently things have gotten worse. We have moved in with family and there are two other dogs around now (2yr and 7yr) Unfortunatly we have also had to change our feeding habits due to who we live with now and what her feeding habits are with her dogs. My dog now gets fed once a day (same amount as she is used to.) She was feed at 7am and 6pm and now she is fed at 4pm. She is not fed in the same room as the other dogs either. I have noticed that when my Aunt comes home from work and she does her normal routein of feeding her dogs as soon as she walks in the door (mind you her dogs are badly behavied) my dog is so overly excited now and she unfortunatly is getting fed at the same time and while she waits to get her food in a bowl and on the floor she is visibly shaking as she waits. When I am home during this time I try to make sure she cant see me put food in her bowl, I make her sit and wait until the food is in her normal spot and try and wait for her to be calm before I give her the command to eat. My Aunt does not do any of this tho. I am affraid that is making my dog unstable and full of anxiety. What do I do??? Moving out is not an option for atleast 12 more months, which when that happens life will go back to being normal and balanced!!
Any advise? oh and one more thing..my Aunt is not one to change HER ways you must mold to what she does or life is not so good. I dont want my dgos life to be bad until we are out of this financial situation!!!
Thanks

How can I mentally prepare my 2 month old puppy for my two week leave? He will be left with family members that he is more than comfortable with, so I’m just worried he will act out in my absence and arrival.

I liked Alison Black’s suggestion about leaving the puppy with the family members for a shorter period of time before you plan on leaving for two weeks. If you have time for that, you could maybe let the puppy stay for a weekend.A tip I remember reading or hearing somewhere is leave a couple pieces of your clothing with the puppy so he (or she) can remember your smell and possibly be comforted by it. You could maybe get a couple shirts and wear them for a few days to get your scent on them. Then leave your shirts with the puppy and your family members can put them wherever he sleeps.I agree with the other people that it’s more important you are leaving your puppy with people you trust. You can try calling your puppy while you’re away as well and see if you’re family members will put you on speaker phone so you can talk to him.Make sure you leave his favorite toys so he has those.I don’t know where you’re at with potty training but when I take my dog to my parents house I always take pee pads and a doggy-diaper.Here’s a picture of my pug Cowbell in her diaper:

The seeing eye dog etiquette?

That dog has a job to do whether its handler is sighted or not. ALWAYS ask permission to pat any service dog. In fact, always ask permission to pat ANY dog. Otherwise you might get bitten.

EDIT:

"I'm glad I restrained myself."

Me too. :-)
