What Should I Take In College If I Want To Creat An Online Business

What college major should I go into, if I want to create my own business in the future?

If you want to do something with tech you should study engineering or computer science.  Don't waste your time getting a business major.  Most successful entrepreneurs don't have business degrees.  It would be much more important to be top notch in your particular craft and to cultivate your creativity.  If you come up with a great idea you will probably want to hire an MBA early on.  Not that this will make you an expert but listen to the Start Up podcast by Gimlet.  This is basically what he describes going through.  He worked for a long time in broadcasting, was fantastic at it.  Realized there was an untaped market in high quality digital audio story telling.  He started networking with investors and eventually partnered up with a guy with a business background who polished up his idea and helped it grow up.   My wife and I run a small business (not tech).  Neither of us has a business background.  If you are willing to put in the hard work of becoming great in your field and you are ok with very possibly failing in you first few ventures and having to work side jobs, freelance, or even work a full time gig while you develop your idea on the side you will do great.  On the other hand if its the idea of "running a company" that seems to get you most excited maybe you should consider studying business.  You probably won't end up being the guy who starts the company but you will be integral to helping it actually make money.  Again though it will be all about working hard.  Becoming an expert, suffering through experience and failure.  Being willing to fail and keeping a backup plan (other jobs).

Should I drop out of college to start a business?

I recently enrolled in Regis University on a $15,000 scholarship. I just got into college, but I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. My life goal is to own a business. And I feel that because society has made it a requirement to go to college, that's how I ended up here. But if I really want to own a business, the only true way I can learn is through experience and not really textbooks. Plus I'm putting myself in debt 45,000 by going to school when I could be using that time to earn money instead of losing it. So here is a plan I was thinking...
My friend and I would drop out of college, go into a house cleaning business, buy a website, build a client database and do the cleaning ourselves. We would start with just us 2 working and then expand after that. It would suck to clean houses every day but we're willing to put in the work.

What there is also to consider is that my friend graduated a year early and I have already 33-36 college credits already, which puts me a year ahead. We could potentially just venture out for a year and see if it works. We also have around $6,000 between us and we would have other part time jobs with our business. We understand that it could take 4-5 years or even longer to really get going and expand but we are willing to be patient and we have thought it out. We want to eventually expand that business with employees and what not and then get into other businesses.

We're really looking for guidance and help because obviously dropping out would be a really big decision, even though we could always go back. We're really motivated and driven individuals. We're straight a students and we have common sense. I understand that we are young but I don't think that should stop us from doing what we would eventually pursue.

We're looking for all advice any advice! Please help!

I'm 17, and I want to start a business...?

1 Find a niche. This may be one of the most important decisions you make as a small-business owner. Your niche market can be anything from wedding cakes to gluten-free items. You want people to buy your goods because they cannot get them from other bakeries. Once you have established your niche, it will help you decide where your location is going to be, what you are going to sell and how much your budget needs to be.

2
Identify your plan. A business plan must consist of marketing ideas, budget, location and niche. Make your plan complete, down to every penny you are going to spend. Although you may not follow this plan to the letter, it is important to have a good place to start. This will get all of your ideas on paper. Write down the steps you wish to take so that you have something to complete every day until you reach your goal of opening the business.

3
Obtain funding. It is important that before you start your business, you have enough money to live on for six months. You can obtain the rest of the money from a small-business loan or grant. You may also be able to hold fundraisers for the business depending on what your niche is going to be. Make sure that your loan amount does not exceed how much you will be able to pay to the bank each month.

4
Find a location. You may want to buy a franchise or start a business from scratch. Your location will also depend on your niche. For instance, if you are opening a doughnut shop, you may want to locate yourself near a college. If your niche market is gluten-free baked goods, you do not want to be located next to a grocery store that also carries gluten-free goods. Research the location thoroughly before you buy or rent a building in the area.

5
Advertise everywhere. You will want to put up signs, use social media and put advertisements in the newspaper. You may want to have a free baked goods day where people can come and try your bakery for free. If they like what you have, they will tell their friends. If you are located next to a college, see whether you can bring food to freshmen orientation. If you make wedding cakes, go to bridal shows. Understand your audience and advertise accordingly.

What degree do you need to own a business?

I know you don't technically need one but I was wondering what kind would help. I want to someday own a clothing store and I want to know exactly what I'm doing when I go into it with money management and knowing whats going on with everything. I don't want to be in school forever and I was wondering what kind of degree in business would help with owning a business.

What college major do I need to create my own magazine?

Going to college is literally the worst way to start a magazine. You enroll thinking you get skills but instead you get debt and history requirements and electives. Then you have homework. And a job or two jobs to pay for it all. And you have to be up early and go to class and spend time with so many bad people. Tired people. Lost people. People who have never been out of the school system. Over Privileged people. Of course there are great people but they are as hard to find as in any other environment and you will spend time sifting through the masses to find them. If you don't go to school, and have just one job to pay your basic rent and necessitites, you will have a good amount of free time to actually create your magazine. You first create it, publish it, then almost guaranteed it will be bad. Maybe some family and friends will read it if you're lucky. But you can learn from it. Why didn't people want it? Wow, I guess the cover that I thought was pretty good needs to be AMAZING because who wants to read a small magazine no one has ever heard of in this busy world? That's how good the cover has to be.Why did people who opened it close it so quickly? Wow, I need to spill my guts in the first five seconds and grip the hell out of the reader or else they have a million other better things to give their attention. It cost so much to make! I really need to take a look at production methods. It cost too much to buy. So now I need to sell better. You learn so much by trying that you never learn in school. And in two years you have a magazine that's doing decently well. You have business experience and connections (huge if you ever want investments). You have a story to write about, speak about, help people with. You have experience working that side job to pay the bills so you can probably even make more for less hours if you need to upgrade that job. And no debt.
