What Should I Wear To A Taiwanese Wedding I

What to wear to a chinese wedding?

I am going to a Chinese wedding this weekend (california) and am somewhat confused about what to wear. I am white. My (Taiwanese) boyfriend told me not to wear solid black, white, or red. The only dresses I have are black, so I bought a navy/white silk flowered dress. I just found out the wedding is outside. Is it ok to wear a black waist length sweater to keep my arms warm? what about a black purse/shoes?? What about a chocolate brown or gray business suit (I am getting desperate). Any suggestions?

What to wear to a Chinese wedding?

It depends on how traditional their families are and how they arrange the wedding. I've been to two Chinese weddings- one was very traditional, they had lots of Chinese family, and the bride advised me to wear more conservative clothing, so sundresses/strapless dresses were out. I would advise you to avoid white and red if it's a traditional wedding.
The other one was more laid back and most of the attendees were our classmates from grad school, and we could wear whatever we wanted. The bride was born in China, but she had lived in Germany and the UK before moving to Chicago, so the wedding was a mix of Chinese and Western traditions.
Your best bet is to ask the bride or some female who is participating in that specific wedding. My family is Jewish, and when I got married, many of my non-Jewish friends asked me lots of questions about attire, traditions, and such. It didn't bother me at all, so I think your friend won't mind answering similar questions.

What should i wear in a Chinese wedding?

sassy... i'm taking it for granted, that you are female. Guests should dress according to the formality of the event. You may want to call the groom or attendant to see if they are spreading the word out about the dress code (if any).

There are such reasonably priced dresses everywhere, and most likely you can find one on sale..if you look hard enough. Keep the weather and building of the reception in mind why you are choosing the dress.

For starters check this web site out (they are pricey) but you can get an idea of where you're going. You may like one, and find one similar in the mall, or your favorite dress shop for lesser $$$.

What do I wear for an Asian wedding?

It's tradition to wear a geisha costume, including full face make-up. Don't forget to cover your mouth whenever you smile or giggle, and remember to start binding your feet at least two weeks beforehand.

Oh- and at the reception, only drink saki-bombs.

BUT- If an outdoor wedding, wear a sumo diaper and one of those round, pointed wicker hats.

AND FOR GOD'S SAKE- Don't throw the rice, EAT IT!!!

What should I wear to a wedding in Ireland?

People in Ireland wear clothes, like most parts of the world.

Whatever you'd wear for a wedding in a temperate part of your own country will work in Ireland. The old rule is don't wear white.

Otherwise you can wear jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, etc. I would also recommend a light scarf and rainproof jacket and shoes.

What do children wear to a Chinese wedding?

There are not strict rules, many young people adapt a western church wedding style as well. So as long as their outfit fits the general theme you are good to go.Maybe get them to wear the same thing as the bride and the groom, or best man and maid of honor, that’d be cute.

Can you wear white to a wedding?

I can think of several situations in which you would wear white to a wedding:The bride asks you to wear white: Many bridesmaids and flower girls in Singapore wear white to the wedding. Most of my older cousins and friends had bridesmaids wearing white dresses - I’ve noticed that only in recent years have bridesmaids started wearing colours other than white. You’re in Singapore (and possibly other Asian countries): Plenty of guests wear white to weddings here. That wearing white upstages the bride is not a common concept here, although as Singapore becomes more Americanised/Westernised this is probably changing. As the Chinese wedding colour is red, guests would turn up in red (or at least partially in red), and even when brides started wearing white, the idea that guests shouldn’t wear the colour of the bride’s dress never crossed many people’s minds. You’re in an Asian country and the bride wears red. This probably doesn’t happen as much anymore during the ceremony (but is more common during the wedding reception at night, which appears to be another thing that is different from at least American weddings), but there are certainly still weddings where brides wear red as per Chinese/certain Asian customs. That said, white is the funeral colour in some Asian cultures, so ultimately it probably depends on the bride if she finds it offensive/disturbing.The bride doesn’t care. I know I wouldn’t. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What to wear to a Chinese Wedding Reception?

I'm going to a Chinese Wedding Reception in August. I have no idea what to wear, I'm a white girl, and my boyfriend is Chinese, obviously. It's a member of his family getting married. I've only met his Mum & Dad and I'm desperate to make a good impression on the rest of his family.

I know not to wear white, as they use it as a funeral colour, or red as the bride will probably be in red. But other than that I have no idea, would I be able to get away with a nice maxi dress? Or shall I go for a cocktail dress? I'm also concerned as I have a large tattoo on my calf which I should probably cover up.

The reception's in Manchester, on a Wednesday but that's all the info I have!

What colors you don't wear to a wedding?

It really depends on what type of wedding it is. Everyone says don't wear black. But if it is black tie optional or black tie, then black is perfectly acceptable for men and women. For other types of weddings, I would avoid black. Now white is a most definite no-no. Ivory, beige, or cream also on the fashion don't list. Also, if you can, find out what color the bridesmaids dresses will be. Avoid that color too. That would just be tacky. Not that you can really help it, but I've seen it happen.

Also, try to avoid really bold colors and patterns. Big stripes, Big florals, bright colors will all make you stand out. Look for something muted. The best dress I ever wore to a wedding was a pink tea length dress with taupe lace over it. I still get compliments on it! And I still wear it to weddings. Pink is a great wedding color. I hope this helps.
