I've been through such situation earlier, about 2-3 years ago.Wasn't familiar with Quora those days and Google has been very close to me for over a decade now and so asked the same there and the keywords were as simple as your question on is. :PAnyways... Try puuting in some effort to type "DISK DIGGER" in PlayStore and install it.It helps finding the deleted files digging internal/external memory.Though it helped me recover tons of pics & videos on my Android device, am not sure if it would help recovering other files/docs.All the best.
