What Sort Of Work Placement Can I Get Where You Help People

Do homeless shelters help people find jobs?

Firstly there is an assumption you are making innately in your question: That homeless people need help looking for jobs. This is a rather ignorant thing to assume. Many homeless people:Already have jobsAlready have the skills needed to look for work if they don't have a job and don't require help.Lost their housing for reasons having nothing to do with income. Such as domestic violence, no-fault eviction, break-up with partner, bad roommate situation, natural disaster, building damage from fire/flood, Landlord property foreclosure, discharge from military housing, and so forth. Are elderly and/or disabled and don't workGenerally speaking shelters are just that. They are there to provide a safe place to rest your head at night so you don't have to be outside in the elements. In most cases you can't linger in a shelter. One usually shows up shortly before bed and leaves shortly after waking up. Usually time is allotted for laundry and showers, but that's about it. Some shelters have a bulletin board but chances are the postings on it are not very helpful for several reasons that should be obvious. Most communities big enough to have shelters usually also have some form of case management or job couching available for those who actually need/want it. This could be provided by the same non-profit that runs the shelter, or a different one. The Department of Labor generally is helpful in this regard as well, indeed in some states its one of the biggest services they offer.

What is the job placement rate for Product School? How many people have been able to successfully transition into a PM role after a course there?

I was able to transition from an android developer role to a product manager role within my company after attending Product School. Product School taught me the necessary "street smarts" to survive in a challenging, high visibility, high pressure role such as product management. It helped me ask the right questions from day one as I was familiar with the PM jargons. It gave me the skills needed to demonstrate that I had what it took to be a good PM. I put together some of the things I learned at product school into an infographic - The Product Manager’s Manifesto — Infographic. The course covered the very necessary fundamentals of a PM role such as writing solid product specs, creating wireframes and interactive prototypes, developing personas, market sizing, A/B testing, metrics, product marketing, etc. It also provided some strategies on how to apply for PM jobs and how to position yourself as a PM. The mock interviews they scheduled for us was very helpful. They were happy to intro us to any of the companies they worked with.We also had the chance to apply everything we learned each week to our own side-project, and the instructors provided VERY DETAILED, brutally honest feedback to help us learn and improve over the course of 8 weeks. The highlight for me were the instructors teaching this course. They were SOLID. They were up to date with the PM industry trends, had invaluable advice throughout (I literally wrote down everything they said), and they were just really, really, good at what they do. They were genuinely enthusiastic about their students, really cared about our progress and wanted us to succeed - both within class, and also once we graduate. Since the instructors were product managers by profession, they could use scenarios that they encountered in their life to explain PM concepts. They had relevant silicon valley PM experience, exceptional teaching styles, and were very keen to help us excel in the course. I don't have numbers on the "job placement rate" asked for in the question, but I can say that it did indeed give me the jumpstart I needed to make the transition - and be good at it [the new role].

Is it necessary to have a work experience to get into IIM even if you crack the CAT?

Not at all!! work experience can never be substitute for a good percentile and vice- versa. both are altogether two separate things. in normal scenario the panel/ Evaluators look for a mix in a batch having people from diverse backgrounds, work experience and academics disciplines. at the same time mix of freshers and work experience is also kept in mind so as to maintain the balance in the batch. all in all looking at the batches in recent years as per my knowledge all IIM's have many and here many means a substantial number in any batch join IIM as freshers. All in all the only criteria is to crack CAT with awesome percentiles and convince the interview panel as to why you deserve a seat in the prestigious institutes! moreover Freshers have advantage when it comes to placement of the batch since marketing, analytics firms need freshers and not others having the same background! Freshers actually are in  a advantageous position since they can apply for companies as per their wish wherever there is no experience criteria and can shape their carrear in the direction they want, which is not the case when any ABC candidate having a previous experience can't do since he/she is labelled with his previous area of experience but again this is not true all the time. Varies sometimes...prepare well and Bell the CAT. Don't go half hearted . just fasten your seat belt and let the time decide the fate. All the best

What kind of work experience is required prior to pursuing an MBA in India? Should he take up a job in the field he wants to do his MBA? Should he try different industries to determine the best fit?

Thanks for A2A.All genuine questions ... but perhaps not the real question that you should be asking yourself before doing MBA.I will try and answer all of them ..1. Yes relevant work experience is always better than non-relevant work experience. 2. Trying different things at young age never hurts. What really hurts is not being able to convey it on your CV or in the interview appropriately.3. Working in bank is not completely necessary. Corporate Finance or Financial consulting are equally relevant. Ofcourse, back office functions that are completely non-related to finance wont help either.4. 95+ is not a strong CAT score. 98+ (with consistency across sections) is. And, no one expects a fresher to have a a management job role before MBA.5. NGO volunteering is a bit of hoax. And interviewers make that out if its done recently only. I would suggest that learning a new language is a better CV booster and a real asset for the future.6. Well, to bluntly answer prima facie ... the private bank. However, it would all depend on the real job profiles.7. Elite MBA programme in my mind is IIM A, B and C and ISB (only a personal opinion). The requirements are pretty simple for IIMs ... crack the CAT and the interviews. Work experience counts .. but has a smaller weightage. Unless, you work at a brand, it doesnt really count at the IIMs. For ISB, crack the GMAT and have a strong work ex of over 3 years. It helps to have a well-rounded CV. Build ur profile with languages, travelling, sports, etcHope this helped. Now, I would just venture to say that these are very defensive questions. Not the real questions that help you take a decision. The real question is "Why do you want to do an MBA?" This requires a lot of thinking. Be brutally honest to yourself. Answers could be :1. Genuine interest in learning about "business" 2. Meeting 100-400 young intelligent exciting people3. Getting a big dream job4.Taking a break to explore yourself over a period of 1 - 2 years 5. Social prestige6. Proving something to your family members7. Doing it because everyone is doing it etc etc etc ...Be brutally honest. Once you have the master question answered, all other questions are just derivatives. You will answer all the 7 questions you asked differently every single time if your main motive to doing a MBA is different !Hope this really helped ! All the best !

How do i get a job with no experience?

Unfortunately its not easy without experience. The IT industry is a fast pased market with a lot of competition. A lot of US corporations outsource IT work to overseas contractors. Nobody wants to hire a non-experienced software administrator. You must get you foot in the door at a much smaller scale. Do your research and find out whats the best 5 companies you would like to work for. Then find out what positions they have open. These can be positions in the mail room or a clerical positions. Just get your foot in the door.

Motivational story:
I studied criminal justice. Unsure of what area I want to succeed in I joined a small local security company. I was a security officer for 2 weeks. I learned how to patrol and conduct the duties of a security officer. A position became available in the main office for a security dispatcher. I applied for it at I got the job after only 2 weeks in the field. After 2 months the Operations Manager quit and I was offered the position. I was in charge of interviewing, hiring, training. I was the field supervisors supervisor. I was very dedicated to the job. Always on time. Stayed extra when I had to. Learning so much and after six months I learned of a position as a Director of Security at a residential management company. I applied and was intervied. I was 21 years old and I was up against retired cops, Other Security Directors. I thought I was through. We were al given a task. "Bring me a proposal as to how you would run the security division of this site". It was a Friday and we had to turn in the proposal on Monday. I put alot of energy into that proposal. I went above and beyond the expectations. I would not have been able to do that with just the college experience. I went from $250 a week to $540 in 7 months. Im now at $67k a year. This is nothing compared to what I would be earning if I had a software engineer degree.

You have an awesome degree buddy. You should have been networking with people during you college years. You should have been meeting people. You should on online forums related to your field . Never brag about what you know or what you do. Let people know you need help securing an entry level position in a software development firm.

Good Luck
