What Sound Card Should I Buy $20 Budget

Does a good sound card make a big difference on the quality of sound?

It makes all the difference. But that does not mean you will be able to notice the difference. If it did not, companies would not design and build the products. The aim of any of these companies, is to create a product that can bring them profit. If these products did tot make any difference, no one would buy them. Many brands sell them. That alone, should give you a hint on their value as a product. As Douglas Currens pointed out in his answer, if your gear (source/files and audio/loudspeaker system) is not “revealing” enough, you may not be able to notice it.Think of it this way. Why would you buy a better graphic card for your computerAfter all your machine comes with one, and it does work. The answer would be, because less people would buy the computer, it would be too expensive, and not everyone needs the extra “power” this graphic card can bring. The same thing happens with your sound card. If manufacturers decided to sell their machines with higher quality sound cards, their machines would cost much more and sell much less. For most people, the onboard sound card does its job just fine. If you want better you can get it afterwords. But the difference is obviously there, and it can be very big (depending on your choice or budget of course). It will also depend on what you consider an improvement in sound quality. Are you really looking for sound qualityOr do you just want more Bass and treble ? Unfortunately, that is what many people consider today as sound quality. You can see that with some audio products/brands that appeared “recently” on the market. These companies are selling much more than they would, if their clients actually knew, what sound quality is all about. If, for you, sound quality means, loud, extra bass, extra treble, there are plenty of other solutions from equalizerssound boostersand ultimately….a bigger subwooferAnd you should also know that all these new products on the market called DAC (Digital to Analog Converter), for computer are nothing more than usually better quality, sound cards. Your sound card receives the digital signal , transforms it to an analog signal, amplifies it to “line level” (Line level is the specified strength of an audio signal used to transmit analog sound between audio components), and sends the result to the output. And that is exactly what an external DAC for computer does.

What budget do I need to build a cheap gaming PC?

Hello! Here are a few ideas. (Ignore this whole section)I believe this HP Compaq Elite 8300 is a small form factor case with a “BTX” form motherboard. This would make a simple transplant into another case very difficult without replacing the motherboard as well. You can fit this video card into the case using a PCIe riser, and the video card should work just fine with the case providing that you can find the space to put it. or You can bubba the lid with a pair of tin snips and have this wonky ass shit hanging out the side. I’ve done this before! You may have to do some creative fabrication with the case either way to get this video card to fit.The RX 580 uses a lot of energy, and this setup will require a better power supply unit. AMD suggests a 500 watt PSU. the stock one is 240 watts and is “CFX” form factor. This is going to be a pain in the ass because they don’t make a bigger one.Kentmh’s response on Hp Compaq Elite 8300 SFF psu + graphics upgrade about halfway down the page is far better than mine. You might get better performance out of a motherboard swap into a budget $20 case and a $30 PSU which will add cost and not necessarily value.Something like this ASUS P8h61-m Lx2/si Socket 1155 Motherboard Intel H61 | eBay ($40) You would have to ask the seller to update the BIOS for youor This ASUS H61m-k Intel Socket 1155 Motherboard | eBay ($40) Also, you would have to ask the seller to update the BIOSand the rest of this System Builder - Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz Quad-Core, FBM-X1 MicroATX Mini Tower - PCPartPickerYou would have to remove the RAM and CPU from the case and pretty much junk the rest of the parts.Or, you can just say fuck it and do it like they do on the discovery channel, if you really want a bubba setup you can use a standard ATX PSU with this Amazon.com: AYA 12" (12 Inch) ATX Main 24-Pin to 6-Pin PCI-E PSU Power Adapter Cable 18AWG for HP Z220/Z230, Elite 8000, 8100, 8200, 8300, HP 800 G1, HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT: Home Audio & Theater to get power to the motherboard from a 24 pin ATX. This will provide enough energy for the setup, but none of these parts are going to fit into that case. You’re going to have to be doctor bubba with the tin snips and zip ties, but that’s probably not what you want. But wait, hold that credit card! System Builder - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 GHz Quad-Core, Radeon RX 580 8 GB ARMOR OC, Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower - PCPartPickerThere you go, a better PC for like $17 more.

Sound Cards: How can I connect an old laptop to a 5.1 speaker setup?

If you really want 5.1 sound out of your laptop without using the Z5500 to upconvert it but you only want to spend $20? Try this HDE 6 Channel 5.1 Surround Sound USB 2.0I used to have some Z5500's and mine had a PC connection on the back. Just plug a male to male 1/8" audio cable from the headphone jack to the green 1/8" port on the back of the sound control pod. Then select... Matrix mode? under your settings and it will upconvert the stereo sound to 5.1 though it really just copies and mixes the available data. Still all speakers should be firing. You could also select Speakers x2 in music mode this gives pretty good sound without the center channel. As mixing the stereo audio with the other channels makes the center channel audio kind of weak.

Halloween Party on a Budget! Help Please?

Hi Curly,

You must have some sort of $dollar store or .99cent store around no? Check that out for decorations and such.

Game - buy a bag of pumpkin seeds (Very cheep) put them in a clear jar and have everyone guess how many are in there. The winner or closest to it wins a little prize (Again, something from dollar or .99cent store or something small and cheap from your K-Mart). Oh, don't forget to count the seeds yourself first! LOL!

Do a scavenger hunt with a small prize. Give clever scary type clues as to where it is hidden. Like hide a tube of lip balm in a small bowl of red Jell-O and say the embalming tube is in the blood bowl. They would have to stick their hand in it to get the prize.

I know it my sound corny for a 13yo, but you could turn out all of the lights and play hide and seek....Really, it could be fun jumping out scaring each other. You'll get some screams and laughs. *Be careful if it's too dark though!

Snacks - Chips and salsa (Cheap) Call it chipped skull bowl.
Chips and guacamole. Call it Frankenstein's filling.
Chicken wings. Call them bat wings
Bowl of gummy worms
Cheese pizza's. Call it piece-a-skin.
Popcorn. Call them pus balls.
Red juice. Call it boo punch, witches brew, etc.

Put labels/cards in front of the snack with a fun name on it like my suggestions (It will be fun for you and your friend to think some up yourself).

Sorry if I'm being too corny, just trying to help out with some ideas and have fun. Take these ideas and suggestions from everyone and go from there.

Anyway, you girls have fun and be safe!

Appropriate Amount for Gift Card (Christmas)?

Some people have mentioned my niece, so I just wanted to say that she is only a month old and I will probably buy her some winter clothes from walmart. :)

Also, many have mentioned that my family should understand that I do not have much money, so I figure I should mention that although my dad knows my financial situation (seeing as how he's the one helping me out) no one else in the family really cares... I know that sounds a little harsh, but it's how it is. They are all extremely well off, and don't get what it means to not be able to drop $100 a head for Christmas.

So I really was just looking for the smallest amount I could get them and still be polite about it...
