What does this mean: "sound the ship"?

In context of a command the Captain might make, to sound the ship is to fix whatever is broken that puts her in danger. The long form would be "make the ship sound".

This is something that might be heard after a fire for example. The ship's crew would be ordered to "sound the ship" which would mean clean up and repair the mess/damage.

An engineer might check the sound of the ship by determining how much it is leaning (listing) to one side or the other. He would check for damages and determine what condition the ship is in. His measurement might also be called "sounding the ship" but the real work begins once he knows how bad things are. In this context "sound the ship" means to determine what the damage is and report.

What does " sounds good" mean?

I was trying to make plans with a guy, and he said he didn't know what days he had off and he would check when he went in to work. So, I said okay, let me know tonight so we can plan something if you want. He said, "sounds good :)" . What exactly does " sound good" mean? I've heard guys say that before when making plans. I'm never sure, if they actually mean it or if it's in a way nice way to blow someone off and later telling them no. Or am I just over thinking it? I mean, my response would've been, I'll let you know tonight so we can plan something. Not, sounds good. Thanks.

Zumba Egyptian song?

There are a couple Egyptian songs used during Zumba classes. One is Jai Ho; which is on the Slumdog Millionare soundtrack. Another is Bora Bora (by Arash).
Can't help you with the other one, though - do you know any of the words, or a part of the chorus?

What does "Sound Character" mean?

It means steady and reliable, basically a good person. Not really ideal,as everyone would have a different idea what ideal may be, but you are on the right track.

.. are Egyptian husbands trustworthy ones?

For the first time I agree with Mr. T

I add .. I'm reminding you again you didn't wash all the dirty clothes. Why don't you let one of your assistants help you in washing.

If Egyptians worshipped Cats does that mean they are the gods and they rule us all?

Egyptians worshiped animals that deserved to be worship. These animals have alot of skills and qualities that toped it above other animals. In mythological ancient egypt, goddess Neith was said to transform into a cat in order to defeat the the serpent Apep, enemy of the people.Egyptians admired the skill and intelligence behind a cat’s hunting tactics, and were often joined by their feline companions when they went out for food. Cats really can do anything dogs do.Throughout the Egyptian tombs and burial sites, both feline and human, we have found images of cats alongside people. One of the most common depictions of this time’s felines was a depiction of the family cat sitting beside the chair of the lady of the house, offering her protection and friendship.Cats were decorated and given so many gifts as jewelery and feathers.By : Adrian Midgley on flicker. This photo taken by me.Taken by me at work. I think when the cat noticed that i was taking a photos as she heared the sounds of the camera shots she immediately stood in a right position, a postion that suites her majesty and makes her look perfect.I also wonder how cats are the most lovable animals and the most domesticated pet. It even do nothing!! It only reseives all the care and atfention, food and shelter, jewels and toys while doing nothing except making a company in home. On the other hand dogs do alot to and presented alot through its evolution history and his compamy to man.Really i and my family do love cats and love feeding them. I will soon write a post about “ how cats and dogs achieved their goal through evolution”. And how they even tricked our family and take our attention and sympathy that we finally domisticated a cat.Really cats are intellgent.

How do Egyptologists know how to pronounce the ancient Egyptian names?

Egyptian hieroglyphic is a consonantal script — i.e. the vowels are either not written at all or, if they are written, then in a highly inconsistent and not easily intelligible way (i.e. you have no real idea whether the use of a sign for “w” is to be read /w/ or, as a mater lectionis, as some vowel. So, basically, from the hieroglyphic writing of a pharaoh’s name we have the consonants only. The best evidence for the exact pronunciation of the consonants (some, it turns out, were “silent”) and for the vowels between the consonants comes from the transmission of these names in other contemporary scripts (e.g. Akkadian or Hittite). These scripts were syllabaries and wrote the vowels. Granted, we must always reckon with the difficulties which Hittite ears had in discerning the sounds of some outlandish Egyptian name as well as with the vagaries of a syllabary which wasn’t always the best at accommodating foreign names. The next best evidence is the writing of these names in much later scripts such as Greek — e.g. in Herodotus, whose versions of the Egyptian names should reflect, with due allowance for a Greek ear’s struggles with Egyptian pronunciation, what was being said in his day, or in Manetho, a native Egyptian who really ought to have known how these names were pronounced in his day. Finally, you have modern linguists’ reconstruction of the history of the Egyptian language which, granted, does take into consideration the things which I’ve mentioned above. Are we ever 100% sure of how to pronounce an Egyptian pharaoh’s name? Unfortunately, no. But for the most part we have a pretty good idea.

What does it mean to say someone sounds "Affected"?

It means pretentious, like they are putting on airs. Acting like they are high class when they're not.

Plato Apology, someting i cant understand?

"The dog" is elsewhere in Plato referred to as "the dog of Egypt." By "the dog of Egypt," Socrates and Plato are reffering to Anubis, the jackal-like god of judgment and discernment who makes the finest distinctions among things in the world--and who is a prominent figure in the Book of the Dead. To swear by the dog of Egypt is a dramatic way of affirming the truth of a proposition. we see how Plato's view of Egypt assumes something about the Egyptian legacy of thought. The dog of Egypt is a symbol of precise, reasoned judgment.
