What Steps Do I Need To Take To Own A Hand Gun Under 21

What do you need to purchase a handgun in illinois?

What you need is a valid DL or ID card and bring your social security card incase they ask for 2 forms of Id.And no Felonies on your record and you have to be 21 to buy a hand gun Im almost sure that is a federal law,but you only have to be 18 to buy a rifle or shotgun I would recomend for home protection a shotgun I'd rather have a shotgun any day over a pistol for homedefense go out and spend 200 to 250 and buy your self a Mossberg model 500 crusier 12 gauge that holds 6 shots. And then go to a shooting range and practice.when you do turn 21 and you still want a hand gun , go and buy a good 22 pistol Walther makes one called the P22 the reason I recomend this is a 22 is cheap and easy to shoot after you master the 22 then you get yourself somthing good like a Glock 9mm or 40S&W .You should also look into buying a good safe and have it bolted to the ground.Oh and you dont have to take a class and you need no permit unless you want to go hunting or want to carry your weapon consealed.

I am 18, i live in ohio and have a question about owning a handgun.?

What you propose is illegal and will get you jail time.

Federal Law - at 18 you can buy, own and posess long guns - rifles and shotguns.

Federal Law - you must be over 21 to buy a pistol. If you are under 21 and over 14 in most states (go to www.opencarry.com to check) you can posess and use a pistol - but - the pistol and all ammo must be supplied by a parent or guardian.

Federal law provides that states can make their own pistol laws. They can make them tighter than federal law, but, no looser.

Having your buddy buy a handgun for you is called a 'straw purchase'. is highly illegal, and will get both of you jail time. All it takes is a police officer to catch you with the gun at a range, a traffic stop, or a game wardent to see it while hunting and run the serial numbers....... and once the figure out you are under 21 - the trouble will start. Unless you mom or dad is the person who bought the pistol - then whom ever gave a person under 21 the gun will be arrested. And of course - you get arrested for being an unemancipated minor in posession of a firearm.

Unless you are already an Olympic Class rifle shot - then you have no need for a pistol.......... if you can't hit anything with a rifle, the pistol is 10x harder!

Go buy a nice AR-15 carbine or 12ga pump shotgun if you want to protect yourself. Go buy a Ruger 10/22 and have a ball customizing it. These are all things you can legally do and have fun with.

Then when you turn 21 - you can look into pistols. You will turn 21 soon enough. You get caught with a pistol while under 21 - and get conviced of a felony - you will never, ever get to own a gun for the rest of your life.

Can I buy a handgun under 21 in FL?

you being in the military has no bearing on it at all, you have to be 21 and pass the back ground check..............the main thing that popped into my mind is just where do you think you are going to keep th gun.....look at all the signs at the main gates, tell you VERY clearly that you are not allowed to have a gun in your car etc etc and at your age am assuming you live in the base and should you be in base housing as a married person then you can NOT have the gun at your quarter.

Would honestly step carefully son as this could impact your military career and NOT in a good way.

EDIT then the short reply is NO you can not get around the rules............maybe go to some of the better gun ranges and they often hav guns you can use to practice.........under 21 if you are pulled over and found to have the gun in the car no matter where it is you will be facing charges........again best place to s one of the better gun stores to you locally, they often hav cops working in the store and will be more than happy to advise you.

EDIT : then as he can not LEGALLY buy a gun how exactly do you tihnk he is going to get around the having of one in his possesion???

Hi, i just turned 18, what is the process for buying a hand gun in california?

1st step: be over 21 years of age (sorry)
But you can buy a long gun (rifle or shotgun) at age 18.

How much trouble would i get in for owning an unregistered firearm?

In the FAA we have a saying: "Nothing ever happens as long as nothing ever happens"

The problem with New York, is that they have that Stop and Frisk policy and they are actively looking for people that want to protect themselves.
Since the gun is not registered, you could say that you somehow managed to disarm the attacker and that only made them angrier and they still came at you even though you have their gun. Also, you have no control over how many bullets the criminal put in HIS gun.

Do you have to be 21 tp sell a handgun at a pawnshop?

However, you should not overlook the point that a pawn broker may not purchase a firearm unless he also holds a federal firearms license, which gives him the ability to transfer ownership. Persons under 21 may -own- handguns in some states, they just can't -purchase- them in any state due to a federal law.

Gun dealers often step in and solve issues like this when, for example, a minor inherits a firearm from a deceased relative. So I would just ask the licensee (who may not be working at the pawnshop all the time, so you may need to call a few times). The answer probably depends on your local and state laws.

I can tell you from experience that if you use a handgun against a loan, you will be required to fill out a Form 4473, pass a background check, and satisfy the eligibility requirements to claim the gun at the end of the loan term, even if you only need the money for an hour. A pawn broker may not simply "hold" a gun; it has to be transferred to the FFL and back to the original owner.

How easy is it to buy a gun in Texas?

Depends. Do you want a new or used one, and do you want to do it legally or illegally?New gun, legally:Be a resident of the state and citizen or legal immigrant of the United States, 18 or older, with valid photo ID, and not a felon, wife beater, drug addict (2 drug-related convictions in 12 months within the last 5 years), dishonorably discharged, adjudged insane, involuntarily committed, or with an outstanding warrant or indictment.Go to a store that sells guns (FLGS, big-box sporting goods and outdoor stores, even Wal-Mart sells long guns), or to a gun show (which is really just a collection of “remote locations” for local gun stores).Choose the gun you’d like to buy. If you’re under 21, you’re limited to rifles and shotguns only.Say “Let’s do this”. Do not say “let’s pull the trigger”; they’ve heard it a thousand times and it wasn’t even funny the first time.Store clerk will hand you the Federal 4473. Fill out all fields (SSN is optional, but if your name is James Johnson it’s a really good idea) and hand it back to them with your driver license.Optional: if you have a valid Licence To Carry (formerly a Concealed Handgun License), hand it over with your form and license. If you gave the clerk your LTC, he and the actual FFL holder on duty at the store will double-check your paperwork, then simply write down your LTC number as the “approval” for the background check. If you did not, after a double-check of the paperwork, the clerk will call the NICS hotline, give them your information and obtain a “proceed” result (assuming you really do meet all the criteria in Step 1). Feel free to browse for accessories for your new gun; this can take a while.Once the paperwork is complete, present your method of payment. Some stores will have the clerk walk you to the door and hand you your purchase there, others will give it to you at the cash register.Enjoy your new firearm safely, knowledgeably and responsibly.Used gun, legally:Option A:Go to a gun store and look at their “trade-ins”, “consignments” etc.If you see something you like, follow the above process for a new gun.Option B:Look online, or ask around among your friends who own guns, to see if anyone has one for sale. The person must live in the same state as you.Meet in person.Inspect the firearm.Pay the man.Walk away with the gun.See Step 9 for a new legal gunUsed gun, illegally:Same as Option B for a legal used gun, except for the second half of step A and step F.New gun, illegally:
