Do Carhartt jackets run big?

Wondering, do they run big or small or true to size? I'm usually a medium or large in tops, and am measuring as large in their chart, but don't want to order it too small. Anyone have a carhartt?

Where can I find out how old my Carhartt jacket is?
My Carhartt jacket I've had for about 7 years now I found originally in an abandon garage wet and frozen in a lump of ice. I thought nothing of it after I thawed it out and started wearing it. It fits perfect. My brother in law has wanted this thjing since the first time he saw it, so if I still have it when I head to a warmer climate ( but not too warm)I will leave it to him (lol). My brother in law said they don't make them dark brown with the fuzzy plaid liner, rivets, and what appears to have been a darker but fading/ pealing thin layer of softer darker fabric adhered to the collar. Not much else to say about it except the plaid inside has many years of 'matted cotton blanket' fuzzy lint. The colors in the plaid lining are predominately dark purplish red and dark blue squares with the cross pattern accents made up of the two colors. It has an inside pocket on the right of the wearer, two outside lower pockets w/out flaps and two upper pockets- the wearers upper left no flap and a patch ( leather 'Carhartt' square in center approximately an inch and a half), and the upper right pocket while wearing has a flap and a button and button hole. All of the buttons on the jacket are button & eye like levi jeans. All of the pockets have rounded lower corners. Any idea how old this jacket is?
Where can I get repair material for a Carhartt jacket?
I have a Carhartt jacket that my dog chewed a small hole in. Its a nice jacket and I dont want to have to pay a hundred bucks for a new one if i can repair it. Im having trouble finding material to repair it though . Does anybody know where i can find some?
Why are Carhartt jackets so warm?
They are reasonably warm but not remarkably warm. It really depends on what climate you are wearing them in.The cotton duck outer fabric is reasonably wind resistant but it doesn’t add insulation.the warmest lining is the Arctic quilted which is run of the mill polyester insulation. With extra layers it will be warm to 0 F (-18C). But that depends on if your run hot or cold.Most other jackets that are lined either have a cotton blanket lining or synthetic Sherpa lining.I find them good for fall and during winter when it is not killer cold.Their relative value is that they perform well in durability if you are using them for manual labour or outdoor work.

With winter months in full force brings cold weather at my house. So i'm trying to find a jacket that will keep me warm while out at the stable. I know Carhartt jackets are wonderful and keep you very warm, but they can be pretty expensive. Do you know of any jackets that are similar to carhartts but are cheaper? Thanks

Economics.First, they fit the basics of utility. Warm, well-made, etc. That sets a base price.Second, there is an incremental value of branding. That is reinforced by the logo others can see. When someone sees that the wearer expect them to have a higher opinion of them. Same thing goes for all sorts of products: motorcycles, watches, autos. In the US there are trucks made for GMC and Chevrolet, common parts across the board. The GMC versions cost more.Circa 1980 there was a “designer jeans” fashion/fad. Levi’s and Lee’s were passe. Put “YSL” or “Calvin Klein” of denim with the same quality as the standard brands and a premium could be had.
