What Tape Is Good For Posters In College

What are good ways to decorate a college dorm room?

College dorm rooms always have spacial issues, so all of your decorating has to be done on the walls. It might seem hard to make your dorm look pretty, but we have tons of DIY decor ideas that will transform your dorm. Also, all of these products are super affordable.A few of my favorites:Cork Board Message CenterAll you need are some cork boards, such as these round ones from Amazon, acrylic paint from Michael’s (79 cents), and some cheap fabric (Joann’s has a $1 sale section). Here’s the finished product. You could also use hexagon cork boards for an even larger piece:Yarn ArtBy following this tutorial, we created hanging yarn art that would look good in place of a headboard, above a desk, or even as stand alone wall decor. To make it even more unique, play around with the shape and edges of the yarn.DIY Sharpie MugsThese DIY sharpie mugs are so cute, and the good thing is that you don’t have to use them as traditional coffee mugs. You could use them as room decor, such as a cute pencil “jar” or even a tooth brush holder.DIY Book EndsSeeing as you’re in college, you probably have a ton of books. This idea from HGTV doubles as both cute decor and a practical item. Simply find two matching animals (which is probably easy to do at your local thrift store), ask your hardware store to cut a brick in half, and buy some adhesive and spray paint.Framed Fabric Wall ArtSince you’re new to college and might not have photos with friends yet, frame some cute fabric instead. It’s super easy, cheap and I think it looks awesome. Joann’s Fabric sells $1 fabric squares that are pretty big — that’s where I found this fabric. I got the frames from the dollar store, but you could also check out thrift stores or use any you have at home.Washi TapeFrame art prints or photos with colorful Washi Tape — it’s also easy to remove, and you don’t have to nail anything into the wall to hang your photos. For more room decorating inspiration, check out some other DIY Room Decor Ideas and DIY Dorm Decor. Happy Decorating! Post photos if you use any of these, I’d love to see how it turns out.

What are some good decorations to put on your wall in college?

Well, that’s a good question. It’s been a long, long time since I was in college. I don’t know what the ‘house rules’ are now-a-days in college dorms. (I’m assuming you are asking about a dorm room.) Some places you can’t use tape or staples on the walls ’cause it messes up the paint. Probably framed pictures or posters of your favorite things. You may color coordinate curtains, bed spreads, rugs. Check with your dorm regs as to what you are allowed to do.Back in 1960, at my college we were allowed to paint our rooms and the school supplied the paint. It was an old dorm and they were planning in the next couple of years to re-do the whole building so it was kinda ‘do whatever’ attitude. (They did get a bit upset however when two fellas in the boys dorm—back then we had boys and girls dorms separate—who painted their whole room black—walls and ceiling. ) Personally, I painted a mural on one wall in my room. It was really neat. Even the Dean came to see it when we had open house and liked it. ;-)

Can I use a Scotch tape to put a poster on a painted wall without taking off the paint?

Possibly, depending on a few things. Type of paint, how long it's been on the wall, adhesive on the tape and how long the poster is up.Alkyd paints are more durable, but less common today than latex paints, which can peel easily if there were any issues with the wall prep. Sheen can play a role as well in durability. The longer a coating has been on a wall, the less likely it will be to flake off - up to a point. Again, wall prep is important for proper bonding.3M, the makers of Scotch branded cellophane tapes do make different versions featuring low tack adhesives or other features depending on intended use. Tapes with low tack adhesive are less likely to pull paint away when removed than standard tack adhesives. Still, being that cellophane tapes typically are intended for other uses, no guarantees can be made that even low tack versions won't pull paint up. There's also the issue of damage to the poster itself, as tapes often will tear the poster when removed. Then there's the issue of time. The longer any adhesive backed tape is left on any surface, the stronger the bond gets. This is why painter's tapes often list a maximum time limit for the tape to be removed, after which no guarantees can be made that they'll remove cleanly without damage. You can see this in effect if you find masking tape that's been left somewhere for a long time. The tape often falls off easily, leaving the adhesive in place. The same happens with cellophane tapes over time. The adhesive will remain bonded to the surface and come off the cellophane backing film. If it does stay on the tape, it will lift the paint. Whichever bond is weakest is the one that separates first. Either the bond between paint & wall, paint & adhesive or adhesive & tape. The longer it's up, the more of a crapshoot it is as to which bond breaks first.Your safest bet is to use either a low tack mastic product - like a poster putty - or a removable weatherstripping caulk product - there are several brands available that can be used to seal gaps or stick things together that dry clear and can be peeled off later without damage. Craft stores also carry different low tack mounting products that remove safely.Hope this helps

How do I stick posters on textured walls?

Tapes won't work because the surface of the tape will not make contact with the uneven texture of the wall at any point of time. I can think of two options one is if you are OK with damaging the poster other is without damaging the poster.  Try some dense glue. For e.g. rubber adhesive, poly-synthetic resin. Apply it on the wall and on the back side of the poster. Then stick it to the wall. If you don't want to damage the poster and you were referring to non-sticky sellotape, do the following. Buy a bigger paper and mount the poster on it via sellotape (as a background). You have to take care of the symmetrical placement of the poster on the paper . Bigger paper can be fixed on the wall using the same kinda glue.

Why do my posters keep falling off the wall?

I teach in a very old school building with cinder block walls in the hallway. I have tried just about every wall mounting product there is with little success.......until I found this product. It is called StikkiWax Reusable Adhesive. It is packaged in a 2 oz. package of 12 sticks. (Your may also find it packaged as reusable adhesive dots called StikkiDots---but I find that the dots have too much wax so I prefer the sticks.) All you have to do is knead a small portion of the wax in your hand until it is pliable then press your poster to the wall. It will NOT come off until you remove it.

I don't know how often you redecorate your walls, so be aware that the product will leave a bit of waxy residue on the surface of the wall, especially if it is a textured wall. That being said.....I love this product.

What can I use to stick a poster on a brick wall?

Hi, I would use 3m command poster strips to hang a poster on a brick wall http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&... If it is a framed poster then I would use a brick clip for hanging http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&... Hope this helps.
