What Time Do Kids In The Pacific Time Zone Get Out Of School

I live at the actual edge of a time zone near to the legal edge. The time zone passes between two states separated by a river. The small city on my side of the river legally uses the time zone of the larger city in the next state because it is easier when a metropolitan area is on one time. Now move 15 miles west to where I live. Half of my neighbors use Eastern time and half use Central time. Our county seat uses Central time while the town that I live in uses Eastern. For a few years both the city government and a county government annex shared a large office with both using different clocks. In my home today, I cannot use my cellphone to give me the time because in different parts of my house it will hit on different cell towers and I don’t know which time zone the phone is picking up. In this town, when asked for the time one always asks “Eastern or Central?”. Your job may be in one time zone while your children’s school is in another. If you have two children in different schools in the same county, they MIGHT be on different clocks. Stores and other workplaces use whichever time the boss or owner prefers. Your spouse might have to be at work by 8AM and you need to be at work at 7AM at the same moment. I’ll leave the daylight savings time change scenario to your imagination. What is it like? Chaos

Are school kids in the U.S. taught that there are now five oceans (Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, and Southern)?Yes, for the most part, they are.About 6 years ago my son who was in 2nd Grade came home with homework assignment where he had to label the world’s oceans. They listed five choices — Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern. At the time (around 2011) I’d never heard of the Southern Ocean, so I googled it.Yes, the Southern Ocean is a thing, and kids in U.S. schools learn about it.

If its 3:30 PDT what time will it be eastern time zone?

pacific 3:30
Mountain 4:30
Central 5:30
Eastern 6:30
If you know the time zones, it is pretty easy to figure out.

I submitted my application to Stanford on time, but it shows up as being submitted the day after the deadline?

I submitted my application on the Common App website at about 11:30 PM on the day of the deadline, which was today, January 1st. (Irresponsible, I know. I have a procrastination problem.) But after, when I returned to the home page, it said that I had submitted it on January 2. Is this because of a time zone difference? Is my application void, now? I'm sort of panicking. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

What is the best way to memorize the time zone of each state?

Hi guys!

I've been searching online about this but surprisingly, I cannot find any information.

I am starting training for a US airline and I need to study and memorize the US timezone.

Do you have any method or technique on how to easily memorize the time zone of each state in the US?

I know there's pacific, mountain, central, and eastern. I know what the time zones are. What I want to know is if there's an easier way for me to remember what time zone each specific state belongs or has?

I mean should I familiarize myself first with the US map?

I am not originally from the US so this is not something I know by heart since I was a kid. Back in my country, we only had one time zone. So I hope you guys can help me out. I really wanna learn this before my training starts.

Thank you.

As Tony points out, every time zone has it's local maxima. In the US at least, classically, there were peaks around the start of the work day, say 7AM-10AM, a smaller peak just after lunch say 1230PM-130PM, another peak around the time kids get home from school (during the school year) say 3PM-5PM, a big peak in early evening say 630PM-8PM and another starting at about 11PM.Western Europe and the PacRim had similar but not identical patterns.Start spreading that over multiple time zones and you get more of a "ripple" than clear peaks. The advent of smart phones and cellular network based browsing, video viewing and rich social media interaction has flattened all the peaks - people no longer have access to broadband just in their offices and homes, but literally anywhere. It's also caused new minor peaks during "break times" which would previously have been dead.Tony's projection is still a safe bet, although morning on the US West Coast does coincide with late night in the PacRim, so that's also a good bet.

Is Colorado Considered Central Time?

Dave and Aidan are correct if the show you are watching is on the big networks, ABC, NBC, CBS and probably FOX as well, the local channels.

What gets real confusing is if you are watching a cable network, like say, Animal Planet. I will only use this one as an example, but you know there are many other cable networks that this applies to.

On those types of networks, you can actually view your prime time show twice in one night. For example, on those cable networks, the times are listed in ET/PT. They usually just say Blah blah blah is on Monday at 9pm. Well, in Colorado, that means the show is on at 7pm (ET minus two hours) and it's on again at 10pm, when its 9pm in Pacific time.

It can be confusing, but it happens. I suggest going to the website of your local cable provider, like Comcast, I assume they are in Boulder. Then search their site for tv listings, you can put in your zip code, then bookmark that page and refer back to it when you are planning on what to watch.

Enjoy the fall shows.

What does 8/7c mean in Honolulu, Hawaii?

That means nothing for Honolulu or any other time zone except Eastern and Central time. When they promote something as being 8/7c that is a primetime show that begins at 8 in Eastern standard time and 7 in Central time. It will most likely begin at 8 where you are as well. Think about this, if a show came on at 8 in the East and it aired at the same time in the West it would come on at 5 and most aren't watching prime time shows at 5 because they are on the way home from work or cooking dinner or whatever.
