What Time Is It Where You Live And Do You Celebrate Christmas

I don't want to celebrate Christmas...?

I don't want to celebrate Christmas...in the way that we, as a family, have always celebrated Christmas.
My kids range in age 16-25(w/spouses as well). I have 2 grandbabies.
I used to go-all-out, with food, gifts and decorating...christmas cheer...etc.
I want to celebrate spiritually....but that's it.
My feelings have been like this for a few years now, and each year, the feeling gets stronger...and I just don't want to do it.
How do I explain to my kids that I just don't want to do Christmas?

I will be celebrating Christmas for the first time?

Get a fake tree, go crazy on buying ornaments, little "balls", tinsel, and make your own ornaments! buy an angel or a star to go on top of the tree. Buy presents for each other. I usually open one gift on Christmas Eve. If you're religious you'll probably go to church on Christmas. On Christmas I open my gifts at home in the morning. Then I go visit with relatives and open gifts there. Usually there will be an elaborate dinner, almost like Thanksgiving. Some sort of meat, side dishes, and lots of little goodies! Oh! And buy a gingerbread house making kit! Decorate it and then eat it! Also buy one of those countdown to christmas chocolate things like at Trader Joes :D
Listen to christmas music while decorating the tree and sing along. Make warm apple cider or hot chocolate with marshmellows :D

Did you celebrate Christmas this year?

i had a solitary christmas. i am humanist, so mine is not a religious celebration. i had received several presents by mail, so during the day i opened them. i spoke to both my mother and sister on the phone. they live 1700 Km away in toronto. i cooked a turkey with all the fix’ins and had a nice meal.i have in the past invited an elderly friend to have christmas with me, but a couple of years ago she screamed at me after dinner for no good reason. she accused me of losing her house keys, which i could not have done because i never had them. it ruined my christmas, and i was glad when she promptly left. i hope she had a rotten christmas.

Why don't jews celebrate Christmas?

OK SERIOUSLY NOW ALL OF THESE ANSWERS ARE VERY BAD. MAYBEE I'M CONFUSING PEOPLE WITH THE WORD CHRISTMAS CAUSE THATS WHAT I CALL IT I PUT UP A TREE OPEN PRESENTS EAT A LOT OF FOOD, ITS A PARTY TO CELEBRATE FAMILY AND FREINDS AND IS DESENDED FROM CHRISITIAN AND PAGAN CULTURAL TRADITION. NOT SURE WHAT PART OF IT IS CHRISTIAN BUT WELL ITS DECORATIONS AND FOOD, A WINTER THEMED PARTY. LOOKING AT HANNAKA (OF WITCH I KNOW NOTHING OF) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE APART FROM THE WHOLE RELIGIOUS PART. I HEARD IN COMPARISON ITS QUIET DULL MAYBEE I'M WRONG BUT DO THEY HAVE A TREE ALL LIT UP WITH PRETTY LIGHTS AND PRESENTS?

Is it rude to ask someone if they celebrate christmas?

Germany is a largely Christian country, so most likely they DO celebrate Christmas.
And as far as being offended goes, if they dont celebrate Christmas, you dont have to worry about offending them.
Sadly, you are used to hearing "politically correct" terms in America. It is ONLY immigrants who live in America that would be offended by such thing. Why? No idea. Maybe they just want attention. There is nothing politically incorrect about telling someone Merry Christmas, or simply asking them if they put up a Christmas tree and put presents underneath the. You are just used to hearing oversensitive immigrants who are offended by an American flag in an American classroom.

So ask them if they celebrate Christmas, and if they dont, tell them Merry Christmas anyway and send them a "seasons greetings card." You're just sharing your spirit :)

If you could choose, would you celebrate Christmas every day or never celebrate it at all?

I’m not sure why anyone would choose to spend their life in perpetual Christmas. It’s not that I don’t like Christmas. My wife’s a Christmas nut but I do like the holiday season as much as the next guy. However, celebrating Christmas every single day would be an incredible chore. For example, my wife’s Catholic, so we’d spend around 2 hours a day (including travel time, arriving early to get a seat and then getting home) to be at midnight Mass, every day.Aside from this, my family and I have a pretty significant dinner every year. We don’t necessarily do the turkey and all the trimmings every year but still a fair amount of work goes into it.Combine that with the time to go to Mass and basically, I’d have zero free time ever. It’d also mean I’d have to see my parents every single day. I love them but that’s a little much. And gifts! I have a love-hate relationship with gifting because I enjoy finding good, personal and appropriate gifts for everyone. I stress about what to buy. This would be a stress I’d have to repeat, every single day. Finding one good gift for some of my family is tough. Finding 365 good gifts would be next to impossible. This isn’t even counting the massive financial burden it would take on me and my family. Even at the bare minimum, I think I’d have to buy 6 gifts. Even if I spent a paltry $10 on each person, that’s $21.900 in gifts per year.Lastly, while I do like Christmas, by the time Christmas is over, I do like moving on. I like being able to turn on the radio and hear non-Christmas songs, being able to buy non-Christmas home decor, not having to maneuver around the Salvation Army guy every time at the supermarket and reclaiming the corner of my living room where the tree goes. Too much Christmas cheer would slowly grate on my nerves.Let’s face it. Christmas is special because it’s only once a year. The only way you could realistically manage daily Christmas is by significantly altering your traditions to the point where you’re no longer ‘celebrating Christmas’.Do it every day and you spoil it. So given the choices, you might as well never celebrate it.

Do you prefer a fake or live Christmas tree (if you celebrate) and why?

As a person who loves christmas celebrations I get really involved in decorating my unit and when helping my parents set their decorations up.The thing is that we have never used a real live tree before. Mums tree is made of plastic and has built in lighting which change colour. When I first saw it light up I was captivated by the prettiness.I searched high and low for a tree similar to Mums but none were cheap enough so I bought a $10 plastic one and adorned it to my hearts content. The main reason that we chose fake over real ones is that there is so much going on around christmas time that being concerned over watering the tree is an unnecessary extra task. Then there is the dirt in the pot that a young family member might spread around. Were as a fake tree can be set up, switch the power on and off you go. That being said, I would love to try a real tree one day.
