What To Do With Baby Skunk

Do baby skunks spray?

I think, if they’re old enough to be out of the nest, they’re old enough to spray. I wouldn’t take the chance that it couldn’t.Years ago, there were four baby skunks eating cat food at one side of my garage. I thought I could e-a-s-e along the other side to get what I wanted without disturbing them. (They were so little and so cute, and obviously hungry.) Didn’t work — three of them scuttled away. But baby #4 took exception — he approached me, stamped his little front feet, and lifted his tail; those are warning signs of intent to spray if the situation is not resolved to the skunks satisfaction. He was between me and the door; I backed up. He moved forward, stamped his feet, I backed up. He finally backed me all the way to the backside of the garage, and onto a wooden storage platform before he was satisfied that I had been sufficiently cowed, and swaggered away. (Yeah, bit of anthropomorphizing, there.)Anyway — young as he was, the skunk certainly thought he could spray. I don’t think anyone would want to test it.A2A: Do baby skunks spray?

Raising a baby skunk... help?!?

So my brother in law found baby skunks on the side of the road that had been hit, one survived so he brought it to me with the thought in mind that Ive raised kittens/puppies by hand before. This skunk from what I research is 3 weeks old. I called a local vet and they said to give it puppy formula for now and then dog food/ fruits/veges when its old enough. I have him in a pet carrier with a heating pad... feeding every 2 hours a ml or 2, however much it'll take.

Im torn as to what to do. Do I try to raise and release it or raise and try to de-skunk it... which is what my boyfriend would like to try to do.

How do you tell the sex of a skunk? Does it look like a cat in that sense? Any information would be great.

SERIOUS INQ. ONLY.

Help? I have baby skunks in my yard?

What the animal control person is charging you is totally out of line. Our town animal control person comes out and provides this service for free. If you don't have this type of service where you live, consider this. They are nocturnal animals. This is when they are most active . You rarely see them in the day. Skunks HATE light and only want to stay in areas that are dark. Wherever they are residing around your house, make sure you leave the area lit up (attach the light to a long pole). Don't make the mistake of turning off the light in the day, they'll only return. It you do this for a week, they will find some place else to live as your back yard is no longer skunk worthy! (=

See attached website for details (scroll down to fifth comment by Clairabelle).

You should be skunk free very soon. Good luck!

Where to buy baby skunk for sale near tn?

You have two good answers with an identical link that will explain why it's illegal.
BUT
You're still in your childhood mode if you want a skunk only because you always wanted one as a pet since you were age 5. That sounds like arrested development.

Skunks have to be descented to be pets.
You don't know the personality of a skunk. They tend to get distressed easily and it wouldn't be the friendliest of pets.

By the way, a skunk is in the cat family NOT the dog family, so why did you ask this in the dog section? It's one more indication that you really have not done your homework. ANY dog or cat or pet you consider should be thoroughly researched before you go out to get it so you know it's a good match to your personality and activity level. -!-
