Who is someone that just needs to shut up?
Franchesca Ramsey.She is living proof that just because you say something sincerely doesn’t make it true.Some of what she says regarding the history of racism is eye opening and gives one pause to reflect on their own personal attitudes toward it, and that’s a good thing. But she is a reason that racism has the potential to get worse, not better.Racism is the belief that one race is superior to others. Nowhere in the definition does it mention power structures. And yet, she will hammer her talking points with “I know what you think it is, what people decided it is, what it’s been defined as, but here’s what it REALLY is, and you are too racist to see it.”In a time where people are genuinely concerned and are reaching for MLK, Jr.’s dream, she is trying to put out racism’s fire with fuel.Her whole MO is “you’re white, so no matter what you do or say, you’re racist.”Her whole presentation is full of social justice talking points. While most of us want justice, she wants social justice. The problem with social justice is that it assigns the blame to a collective whole rather than to the individuals who cause the problems. And that makes her a bigger racist than those she decries.Most Americans want equality for all in regards to race, and we want to help make MLK’s dream come true. But when Ms. Ramsey condescendingly lets people know that we can’t help being the scumbags we supposedly are, it’s little off-putting.There are people on both sides who work diligently to stamp racism out for good, and Ramsey with her histrionics and adding her own opinions into definitions slows or halts their progress.In life, you are either part of the problem, or a part of the solution. There is nothing worse than a person who thinks they are part of the solution when in truth they are part of the problem.
