Is it cultural appropriation for a white person to wear hoop earrings?

I believe that is cultural appropriation within today’s American society.There is cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. The difference lies in who benefits and who is discriminated against.In America, there is a long history of black and Hispanic/Latina women being made fun of for their cultural attributes. Things like big lips, hoop earrings, styled baby hairs, box braids and dreads, having big butts were used to make fun of them. When slim, almost-starved bodies dominated runways, naturally curvy black and Hispanic women were considered ugly and called fat by white people who could afford diet plans and trainers. WOC with big lips are called out for having “DSLs” (Dick Sucking Lips, for those who aren’t familiar). POC with styled baby hairs, box braids, and dreads are called “hood” and “ghetto” and are assumed to be poor or dangerous. WOC who wear hoop earrings are told “bigger the hoop, bigger the hoe” and assumed to be easy.So, you can imagine how infuriating it must be when white women wear these trends and get compliments and money. They are told they are trendsetters. They are told they look amazing. They make money and get ego boosts by wearing and selling the same exact things that women of color are so ostracized and berated for wearing.You can imagine why Kylie Jenner (really all the Kardashians/Jenners) is not a name they want to hear. She is a white woman who profits off of these trends. When she sells her lip kits- which encourage the buyer to overline their lips to make them seem bigger, like a WOC- she is profiting off the same thing that WOC get berated and ostracized for. That is cultural appropriation.White women who wear hoop earrings and simply receive compliments and aren’t told “bigger the hoop, bigger the hoe” and assumed to be easy are participating in cultural appropriation.Cultural appreciation is going to countries and experiencing another culture in a way that respects their people and customs. It’s learning a new language. It’s enjoying the music or art of another culture. It’s doing this while supporting the people of this culture, not white people who just wish to profit.

If I see an old swastika tattoo on someone’s hand, should I take it as some youthful affectation intended to signal toughness in a prior motorcycle club member, or see it as a serious Nazi affectation?

Honestly, I'd stay away from anyone who has a fascist tattoo. It's probably an indicator of what they think or used to think. It's definitely not a toughness symbol in a motorcycle club. Motorcycle clubs are not inherently fascist, and «toughness» is not about tattoos. It's usually about attitude. Anyway, not even most motorcycle clubs are like you picture them, I've seen plenty of them which are made up of nerds, or rich entitled people, or normal people, or just normal dads.If you see a fascist symbol, just assume that the person is a fascist. If you want, you can always ask. But they got that tattoo for a reason, and you don't get a Nazi related tattoo just to seem «tough».And, in my opinion, if someone is stupid enough to have a fascist symbol on them to seem tough or whatever, they are horrible entitled people, who are not only showing support towards that, they are mocking the victims of fascism. They are mocking those who were gassed or beat or imprisoned by Hitler, they are mocking those who were shot and buried on the side of the road by Franco, and they are mocking those who are now dying and will die because of Bolsonaro. It is disrespectful. It is unforgivable. You should stay away from fascist people.
